Zedomax is reporting that Adobe is showcasing a prototype of an Android tablet at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. The new Android tablet, seen running Adobe Air and Flash, will apparently have a similar form factor to the iPad: screen of roughly 10-inches on the vertical and a physical keyboard-less, multi-touch display. For the time being, we don’t know exactly what the production unit will look like — other than screen size — as the core components were demoed while wrapped in an acrylic case. We’ve got some additional pictures and a video, courtesy of Zedomax, queued up for you after the break. What are your initial thoughts? Anyone willing to rethink their position on purchasing a tablet/pad now that it doesn’t have the letter “i” in front of it?

I’m waiting for a tablet/slate gives me some real functionality and not just consumption of apps that repackage the web. I also want to be able to see the web as it is designed by the developers and I want to be able to work with the tablet. . . maybe Android will bring that, maybe WebOS, or maybe something else. Right now the only decent tables I’ve seen are just that, tablets. the iPad has just too man shortcoming to be anything other than a toy or consumption device, for me; however, I’m thankful Apple has hyped the market so much that now competitors are actually trying to put out some decent products.

Being a contrarian doesn’t mean you’re smart. It just means you are able to identify the obvious and do something else.

Telling me the definition doesn’t mean you’re smart it just means you looked up the definition

      • xclntgig

No, I was paraphrasing based on my idea of what it meant.

        This is the definition:
        –noun
a person who takes an opposing view, esp. one who rejects the majority opinion, as in economic matters.

I am more interested in anything tablet and pad-like that is ‘i’-less that an Apple solution. But it had best play well with other devices and file types…

The dominos are starting to fall against Adobe….

The only flash use, runs youtube a some web pages I visit. I don’t play games nor use flash online apps but I might and it would be nice for any future portable device tu support adobe flash.

      @palfrei

You may want to rework your statement.

Look at this video. What is so funny is he starts saying how glad he is that he didn’t get an iPad because this device does flash.

The Android Tablet’s web browser probably based on chrome CRASHES while running a FLASH video over youtube. Thats a Google Browser, viewing a Google owned web site running flash AND IT STILL CRASHED.

I guess Google knows the issues too and played it safe months ago announcing they are supporting HTML 5

Mike, pay more attention to the review. He says that he accidentally closed the app–so not Flash’s fault.

I’ve been waiting for years for Apple to introduce a tablet… but I’m a bit disappointed with the iPad to be an extension of the iPhone… I want it with real MacOS and for me to use it like a computer, not a play toy only. I want to do work and have fun and games.

I want serious productivity on the road. It has RSA Token VPN support on it already, great. But I want access to the shell, write shell scripts for sys admin work, and install many of the apps I already have on my Mac. The iPad was a disappointment for me.

I’d definitely be willing to consider Android tablet since it is already Linux based and more open than iPhone OS. I would guess it’s VPN ready, but I’d have to confirm…

I’ve lived without relying on Windows for the past 7 years and would be happy to keep it that way. Even though work gives me a windows machine, I’m happy to be doing most of my work on Linux & Unix boxes, with the exception of Outlook 2003 for email (so very sad that it’s a telecom company that has outdated software and won’t upgrade us…)

    Mel:

That post was moronic. There’s not going to be a true OS X tablet. You’re like the guy that says he won’t buy a BMW 335 because he’s waiting or a 385 as if BMW just hasn’t thought of it yet. There’s no need to buy an iPad if you don’t need it, but not buying because you’re waiting for something that will never come is just stupid.

  • J Glenn

I’m waiting for something else. Yea, Windows 7 or greater, USB ports and SD slot. Something that will work in the real world, not a game toy.

  • Wil

Way to show a beta product fail. I hope it comes to market and sells for $399 for 64GB model, that would be worth buying.
