tmobile-mytouch-slide

Dream about a sliding Android device for T-Mobile? Well, your wish is HTC’s command as the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide just got official. No stranger to leaks, the device slides in at 15mm thick and features a 3.4″ HVGA screen, Android 2.1, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, and even a Genius button powered by Dragon Dictation that’s ready to take your voice input and convert it into calls, sending text messages, and more. If that roomy slide-out QWERTY keyboard and aforementioned specs tickle your fancy, then you won’t have to wait much longer as this handset is geared up to hit in June in either black, white, or red, exclusively from T-Mobile. Pricing information isn’t available at this time.

How about the processor? It is also using the same snap dragon 1GHZ? Man, these devices make my Nexus one look really old.

    • Bob

Wooahh.. you think THIS makes your nexus look old??? pshh your nexus is WAY better than this! The nexus just came out! itll be new for atleast a year. it is a superphone right? haha :P

    • http://tmobile.com Mr.Tmobizzle

Actually it doesnt have the snap dragon…

      • Ar-Droid

Without Snap Dragon, Do they (T-mobile) expects this to be their flag ship phone? I mean, AT&T got iphone and up coming 4G, Verizon got their super Droid line up, and Sprint got Evo. Don’t you think T-mobile is aiming so low? I got Nexus one with T-mobile, and I paid like $60 for 550 min, data & texts. The connection is useless in indoor basement and elevator but I got faster 3G than Verizon outside. With up coming HSPA++, T-mobile price and speed is a better deal than the most, expect for Sprint maybe. They got to come up with a better phone than this one.
By the Way, I hated trackball on my Nexus one but after editing text with it, I am starting to like my trackball. Especially when android 2.2 upgrade will colorized the thing. Droid Incredible and Iphone may be better phones than Nexus one but I am getting a color ball. LOL.

        @Ar-Droid

HTC HD2 is their current flagship phone. You know, the one they sold out of in the first couple of weeks.

This whole thing where who has what Android handset, and using that as a measurement is getting real old real fast.

At&t has the iPhone; VZW and Sprint have superior Android phones along w/ Blackberry Storms and Palms; T-mobile has the current best WinMo handset of all the carriers and the latest Blackberry Bold.

        A little something for everyone.

Is T-mo falling behind in the Android category? yes. Does that mean they don’t have a flagship phone? If you say yes, then son, you haven’t played with a 4 inch screen yet.

      • WhyNoLikeyMe

Oh, before I get crapped on for my comments: I don’t like Apple and won’t own anything Apple… anything Apple I owned before has long been sold on eBay. So because I don’t like Apple, that means the iPhone isn’t their flagship phone? You all know how silly that is. Well ditto for WinMo.

      • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

They don’t expect it to be the flagship, it’s the replacement for the sidekick.

Specs wise it may only be marginally better than the 18 month old G1 but for me it solves pretty much all the annoyances so I’ll probably buy it.

    • WhyNoLikeyMe

Dude, you need to take out your contacts and rinse them off a bit, then come back and look at these pics.

that or you’re just an android or nexus one hater trying to make a dumb joke. I mean, no offense, but how you look at a cookie cutter mid-range device and think it looks better than a N1 is… questionable.

    I like it, sharp package.

Be nice to see it Canuck side too.

  • VDubb

This is a nice looking device, but it’ll probably get easily overlooked in the world of Incredibles, 4G iPhones, and EVO 4Gs.

    • betchplz

Yeah because all T-Mobile subscribers have to have an HTC EVO & know exactly what it is.. why do they even bother selling regular phones anymore since all their customers want is the HTC EVO?

It’s like the HTC equivalent of the Devour, it has better processor than the myTouch 3G/Backflip.

    • Gina D

seriously, only the most hardcore geeks and the myriads of Sprint employees on forums like these even know what the EVO is.

Outside a select few, customers are electing to stay away from Sprint even though their pricing is relatively fair.

I don’t think the EVO will gain much traction outside that specific niche.

I’d personally prefer the Samsung Galaxy S series powered with an international 3G radio, super AMOLED 4″ screen and simultaneous voice & data myself.

But even I know the masses will flock to the new iPhone come hell or high water.

    • T-MOBILE-REP

OUCH! GINA D is the girl, right so now he says EVO 4Gs, when sprints actuall “4g network” is slower than T-Mobile’s super 3g network (HSPA+) and BTW WiMax is already outdated before it even comes out! whatta joke! Now the incredible vs new mytouch, i would so go for the new mytouch with the qwerty since is so much better to type plus the new andorid 2.1 that this baby will pack will make it stand out.

I just hope TMo makes enough noise about this device.

your stipidity amazes me….get your facts straight

      • andy

learn to spell. his facts are spot on.

      • Doll

Hardly. The theoretical speeds of HSPA+ are not the actual speeds T-Mobile subscribers are getting. The actual speeds are around that of WiMAX, meaning close but not quite. Sprint has already started working on increasing WiMAX speeds while T-Mobile is still rolling out and banking on “already outdated” 3G. By the time T-Mobile finishes its 3G network and start working on a 4G, WiMax will be even faster or converted to LTE already. Be realistic, please.

      • betchplz

The HSPA+ Network isn’t completely off the ground in any city so reserve your “thoughts” on what the speed of the HSPA+ network will or won’t be.
While T-Mobile is launching HSPA+ Clearwire will still be struggling to cover a 3rd of the land T-Mobile will cover with HSPA+, building penetration is already far better than Clear WiMAX so where HSPA and WiMAX are coexisting HSPA+ will offer a far better signal, not to mention with WCDMA you could have one bar and excellent speed whereas with WiMAX once your signal degrades your speeds also degrade.

    • Skippity Bippity

eh.. this phone is ok.. I’m thinking about just going ahead and buying out T-Mo and Sprint.. I just have to wait for that allowance money next weekend..

  • Bravo

I like this. I think the processor will do just fine. Andorid 2.1, beautiful screen and this will work all over the world even in Japan.

I’m glad they ditched the trackball. The trackpad gives it a sleaker look and doesn’t get all dirty and grimy like the ball.

If HTC stays true to form, the keyboard on this should be fantastic.

Finally a global capable Android phone with a slide out full qwerty keyboard. Just what the doctor ordered.

    • aaron

I totally agree. I too like nice things, but I don’t get caught up in the nerd mania. Nerds will love a device one day and then the next week its old news and they turn on it.

This phone has all the specs I want and looks solid. Dig the clean white color. This will be the phone to get me away from my BlackBerry and Sprint. I’m pretty excited to go back to a GSM carrier. Hopefully this will retail less than $500 so I can get that no contract EM + plan.

      • Elway7

I like it too, You will never keep up with the next big thing, nor do I care too. find somthing that works for you and enjoy it.

      • RockTripod

Thank you!! It cracks me up seeing everyone ask if it has a Snapdragon inside. Guess what! Most people don’t care. Hell, even the ones that do aren’t going to notice any crazy speed difference on the vast majority of tasks. Too many people buy into the hype of having the latest and greatest. Every 2 weeks something newer and better is announced. Find something you like and STFU.

  • L.G

Pretty good… definitely better (spec wise) then the regular mytouch 3G. :)

  • Betty

    mmmmhhhmmmmm birdy

  • Mr. Sky

Though it looks decent and probably has a spring open keyboard, there is probably good reason they didn’t include specs in the description.

    • Elway7

its on t-mos site as coming soon. I like that they do that.. you can read all about it.

  • jmts80

Another midrange crap phone from T-mobile. So glad my contract is up in 20 days!

  • Nokia N900

No front facing camera!?! A front facing camera will be the next must have feature once the iPhone 4G drops. I have a front facing camera on my Nokia N900 of course, anything less would be uncivilized.

  • Teddy

This phone looks nice. Really nice.
It also looks like a Sidekick-type of keyboard.

Sidekick’s always had the best keyboards, especially the SK3.

  • KG

    Mytouch blows

  • Dennis D

This is a maybe. Why did verizon get incredible, sprint get evo, and at&t get…well you know, and T-mobile get’s this? I don’t know

  • Doll

I think people will love the MT slide if they really check it out. I’m running a ported version of the rom on the MT slide and I must say it is absolutely amazing. Sense is 100 times better, there is a true task manager in the drop down notification bar, and themes you would usually root to get are already incorporated and run very smoothly. It’s really consumer friendly, which is what’s most important anyway.

    • RJ

Does the Sense UI incorporate full exchange support…email, contacts, and calendar?

      • Doll

It is supposed to, but I’m not 100%. All I get is corporate junk mail on my Exchange account so I prefer not to use it.

  • Brad

Meh, might be prettier and have a bigger screen, but it’s still plain-jane Android (no Sense UI), and if I’m not mistaken the internal hardware specs (at least the rumored ones) show this phone as having the same, tired old 528MHz ARM processor, making it no better than the G1, myTouch, Hero, etc. Phone manufacturers really, REALLY need to stop using that chip. It’s just ridiculously inadequate for the processing power required by the current generation of smartphone operating systems. I’m guessing the reason for it, though, is because they’re cheap, and there’s probably warehouses chock full of them because they’ve been used for so long.

    • Will

Actually, it does in fact have SenseUI (a newer, customized version). it apparently has a 600Mhz ARM processor, and the increase in screen size will more than likely be pretty much negligible.

Granted, that’s still a lot to be desired, but I have a Nexus One, so I’m a bit biased in that arena.

      • FML

Increased screen size but what’s the resolution? I would rather have a screen that’s .25″ smaller but double the resolution. From what I’ve read this thing will only be 320×480.

Lucky for Tmobile people don’t care about things like “screen resolution” or “cpu frequency”. The average consumer will probably scoop this up without hesitation.

  • Jason

The customized Sense UI could be cool, but other than that, there’s nothing appealing about this phone – design or spec-wise.

  • cheech

is it me or does this phone look like the Samsung moment?

  • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

As a G1 user I can’t not look forward to this, as long as it’s got more app storage pace than the G1 (has to).

It’s also got Android 2.1 which is nice but a stable build of 2.1 for the G1 is right around the corner thanks to Cyanogen so that’s not as big of a deal as it was even a couple weeks ago.

I don’t think I’d like the Sense UI and I’m pretty sure the T-Mobile stuff would suck so while I’ll probably buy this I think I will wait till it’s been rooted and there’s a decent tweaked ROM available for it.

Wonder what it will really cost (not the fake contract pricing) I’m guessing it will set me back $349, if I’m lucky it will be $299 but I doubt it. I’m sure not getting it on contract the Even More Plus pricing makes that about as smart as playing the lottery

  • rg

    lol @ pic

My gf didnt like the HD2; Ill get her this instead,

  • spudman

hmm i’ll keep my cliq. thanks

  • Yauranberry

As an MT3G owner this new phone is going to solve my no-keyboard issue. I am a heavy texter so I need a keyboard to deal with all the texting I do, so this phone is going to be great… I will wait until my buddy gets it first so I can play with it.

  • James

Is it just me, or do the two adult birds that T-mobile have in this ad look like they are trying to decide the best way to devour the little baby bird?

  • bk1

been using the slide for abour 72 hours now, it is nice!! stable, quick, no lag, nice feel (a lil heavy) have not used keyboard much coming from mytouch im used to on screen, multi touch, awesome camera (well compared to mytouch) android 2.1, 5-7 screens, well thats all for now nice device a tmo must, way more stable than HD2 not as fast of a processor but it works well….. 9 0ut of 10 stars

  • msrep@tmobile

this phone better meet my expectation’s or I’m leaving tmobile and going to the evo from sprint since I’ve been eyeing this pearl from the beginning.
