HTC Legend spotted at the FCC, on its way to AT&T

Rumor

htc-legend-att-fcc-id

Earlier this year, the rumors surrounding the HTC Legend were coming fast and furious with renderings, videos, and even a brief appearance on a Dutch website reminding us of its existence. After its formal announcement at MWC 2010 in February, the Legend lost a bit of its momentum and dropped off the proverbial tech radar. Out of sight but not out of mind, the Legend was spotted on its way out of the FCC with a bright and shiny stamp of approval. For those that are keeping track, a variant of Legend passed through the FCC previously back in February with the same odd-shaped label and an FCC ID of B76100. This latest variant of the Legend sports the same internal labeling, an FCC ID of PB76110, and, best of all, support for the 850/1900 MHz bands of W-CDMA. Has anyone’s interest in the Legend been renewed now that it may be coming stateside?

I will say I’m disappointed by this news if this is highest end HTC we will be seeing with Android. I was hoping having to choose between the Desire and the Galaxy S.

    • justme

they will be getting the desire, this is the low-end of the 2 HTC android based devices being released this summer for at&t

      • elijahblake

        and are you just guessing?

      • Will

WHEN are they releasing the Desire, then? I’m about a week and a half away from Jumping ship to go to Verizon to get the Incredible.

      • justme

nope i manage an at&t retail store

      • Elway7

They cant even launch the the next 1.5 yahoo phone. we both know they will butcher the hell out of this.

      • Skippity Bippity

        Very Poorly it seems..

      • Oxyrt

        Timeframe?

  • Norm

Hey, ATT might get a good phone, they will probably just end up crippling it

    • Flixoman

We can hope they wont…but corret me if I am wrong…but since it is on android we can hopefully expect that some clever individual will have an image that we can root/upload to decrap the crap. :)

      • Norm

This thing will be rooted days after its release, and maybe they cripple them, to make people root, to void warrantys

      • Sonya

Who would have thought that the word “cripple” would be used for AT&T and not for Verizon 2 years ago.

  • DubYa

Legend…and I thought no phone name could top Incredible.

What is with all of these lame phone names coming from HTC?

    • 3 Phones Jugglin

EVO (Evolution) is shits on all of those names…

      • elijahblake

        grammar shits on that sentence

    • Skippity Bippity

I know what you mean.. I was reading on Gizmodo about the new HTC Chuck Norris.. Sooo sick

    • Cold Dead Fingers

Lame ass names for lame ass phones

  • HA!

Right. What happened to the Desire?

    • user

I hear it was replaced by HTC Obsolescence.

  • Dan

The Desire sort of disappeared from radar as well. I hope it comes soon to AT&T. HURRY AT&T!! I need a new phone bad.

    • justme

mid summer it will be out, i am ready as well…

      • HA!

mid summer what will be out?

      • elijahblake

all the att subscribers that want A REAL android phone

    • Dugggy

The Desire didn’t disappear it’s heading to US Cellular, a CDMA network. So if I were to guess I’d say BGR’s initial report was backwards. Sprint could get the Desire and AT&T the Legend.

This is just a guess as I don’t know what frequencies US Cellular and Sprint use(perhaps the same?)

      • justme

at&t gets them both the legend is the low-end device

      • dfresh

Boy, I hope you are right. I was just thinking earlier that the Legend and the Desire will be the two HTC phones that are going to AT&T. Do you know of a timeframe for their arrival?

      • justme

both the desire and the legend are scheduled for release around “mid-suumer” my guess is late july early august… the best is WinMo7.. our answer as to when that is being released is fall holiday.. my ? was wtf is the fall holiday

      • Verryberry

Justme: are you are saying that at&t will be getting Desire, but it will be WinMo7 not Android? What about the Samsung Galaxy S when it scheduled to arrive?

  • Doll

I thought the Desire was coming to AT&T and the Legend was coming to Sprint..?

    • HA!

Well, headlines have certainty, but the fine print – not so much.

      I’d rather have the desire.

      • Doll

I’m not even on AT&T and I hope the Desire hits AT&T. The Backflip is so fucking horrendous, the Aero is a disaster, and the Nexus One is quickly getting old. All AT&T has left for smartphone junkies are blackberries and iPhones. Sad.

      • HA!

Well, if AT&T starts losing significant market share because of competitors’ Android phones, they’ll get the message. Big biz is run by bean counters, and when the beans to count are fewer, they finally start looking at why.

Too bad they just can’t see the handwriting on the wall and move in a timely fashion.

If the Nexus had a trackpad instead of a trackball, it would be the same as the Desire, just better looking.

The N1 has nice curves, like a Ferrari. The Desire/Incredible look like a 1980 Volvo. Boxy.

      • Simon

        NOT TRUE!

The Desire is much better than the Nexus One because of the Sense UI….

      • HA!

        @Simon

HTC Sense doesn’t make the Desire better for everyone, because it isn’t preferred by everyone. And the N1 promises to get Android updates faster from Google than any branded phone. Additionally, HTC sense has been available for rooted N1s for months.

The N1 and Desire are essentially the same hardware, and which one is better is a matter of preference.

  • Elway7

IF they really get this. (they cant even get the 1.5 dell yahoo out) Norm is right, it will be bloated and crippled. why do you downrank him for telling the truth?.. all they have still, is the backflip. Why do people still not get that they will never have anything that might compete with the golden child., sad but true.

    • HA!

Well, if AT&T starts losing significant market share because of competitors’ Android phones, they’ll get the message. Big biz is run by bean counters, and when the beans to count are fewer, they finally start looking at why.

    • dfresh

The Aero won’t be as crippled as everybody thinks. This is from the Aero/AT&T page:

Google Mobile Services supported on Aero.

      Androidâ„¢ market place
      YouTubeâ„¢
      Google Mapsâ„¢
      Google Talkâ„¢
      Gmailâ„¢
      Googleâ„¢ search

It leaves some glimmer of hope.

  • Hollaman

hopefully it doesn’t have a horrific touch screen like the nexus one. had it for 3 days and it blowed, primary input method fail.

    google: learn 2 hardware

  • doctajay

why would I even get this with the galaxy s coming this summer as well as that Motorola 4.3in screen slider superphone that is coming with the at&t bands too? It will be dead on arrival.

    • HA!

Because it’s likely to be a lot cheaper. It’s not supposed to be a high end phone – maybe subsidized it will be $99.00 like the Backflip, and not $199.00 like the Incredible.

The same reason people still buy iphone 3g instead of the iphone 3gs.

Maybe you’ll hold out for something higher end, but there is certainly a market for it.

  • runningman

If the desire isn’t released on AT&T I will be taking my business elsewhere. Spring has a good Voice/Data plan for cheap and by then they’ll have the EVO 4G. Why does AT&T fuck with us and no give us any information? They haven’t even released OS 5.0 for my 2 year old BB Bold 9000. Fucking pathetic.

    • runningman

      *Sprint

  • Akulamenuri

An underpowered Incredible with a smaller screen and a chin. AT&T sure knows how to pick em

    • Barry

I agree. What possible use is a 600Mhz proc in a phone like this? Didn’t HTC learn anything from the Droid Eris? Its 1Ghz, or its worthless.

      • Zach

You obviously dont know that things like the droid with non 1 ghz processors can still go pretty fast.

    • betchplz

It’s the myTouch Slide without the Espresso interface and keyboard.

  • Lol wut?

Yawn. I want more iPhone news.

  • TypicalVerizonDBAG

At&t is garbage, just look at their map. We have the INCREDIBLE now too… whatd they have? The iphone? LAME. So what if they get new Blackberrys a year before we get a similar variation? So what if they have the iphone? So what if they have the option of getting the Nexus One? So what if GSM is a world standard? On Verizon I have get a Verizon SIM and card and simply buy a GSM phone to put it, not like money is a problem for anyone right?

    • D

Verizon sim card and simply put it in a GSM phone? You obviously don’t know shit about that Verizon sim card son. That sim card is there to run in international territory. Verizon does NOT have a GSM network anywhere. I would like to see you buy a GSM phone and put it in and it actually work. Oh, it’s also there to help fucktards like you think you can do such a thing

      • uhm…

too bad they don’t have a sarcasm option on here…they were being sarcastic mate…

  • Doll

I guess people buy phones for Thanksgiving or Labor Day lol

  • betchplz

Mhz mean nothing at all, so stop comparing them directly. The HTC Legend has been noted to be snappier over it’s predecessor thanks to the updated processor. It should be just fine

  • http://(null) Joe

    @doctajay,

thousands of people will buy this for the simple fact it’s not an iPhone. regardless if it’s an old design or underpowered, I’ll wait for the desire. that’ll be the wife’s phone for sure, and my toy. i’ll still have the iPhone 4g tho :)

The significance of this is not this particular model coming to the USA. The significance is that AT&T will actually be getting their first serious Android phone. Of course, it remains to be seen whether they strip out the ability to install apps from alternate sources or not, but with this, T-Mobile will be the only carrier that’s lacking an HTC Sense UI Android device, which is pretty sad considering Android pretty much started with them.

    • betchplz

Uh, the Slide has the Sense UI, also Android and Sense are two separate things, not sure if you grasp that by acting like T-Mobile must have a Sense UI device (which they WILL be getting)..

  • chellykay88

I’m excited for there to be a good android phone for At&t. I actually have a backflip (which I got for free from my Att rep) And the phone itself isn’t as gay as I thought it would be, I love android now and the motoblur is pretty cool. I would never have bought it for myself because the “unique form factor” (motorola REALLY missed the mark on that) where it flips backwards is retarded and the keys on they keyboard are a little weird after using my BB curve, but it gives me hope for future android devices for att, and I love HTC (even though my 8925 tilt had the black screen of death almost every day….)
