BB_9650_FCC_Docs

The BlackBerry Tour Bold 9650 has received its ceremonial blessing from the FCC according to documents available via the government agency’s website. The newly approved handset is scheduled for a May 23rd release on U.S. wireless provider Sprint and — hopefully — on Verizon shortly thereafter. For those who need a little refresher, the 9650′s stat sheet flows like this: CDMA EV-DO world phone with support for HSPA and UTMS (2100 MHz) networks, Wi-Fi b/g, optical trackpad, GPS, 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, 512 MB of flash memory, microSDHC support for up to a 32 GB card, 1400 mAhr battery, and BlackBerry OS 5. We’ve got the FCC docs, in all their black and white glory, linked up for you…enjoy!

    sighs…. another boring phone

Well ‘boring’ phones seem to be working quite well for RIM from a profit perspective.

      • Akulamenuri

Profit perspective? You do realize RIM has taken a serious hit from Android and Apple right?

      • Bob

And your facts to prove this is what exactly? RIM is continuing to make money. It may not be pretty but all they do is “win win win no matter what”. They are the San Antonio Spurs of the smartphones.

      • Akulamenuri

And like the Spurs they are good but have no chance of winning it all. Lakers = Apple, Cavaliers = Android, Orlando = Windows 7

Not a new phone, just bringing the Bold to the CDMA carriers. This Bold has been out on the GSM/HSPA carriers since November, probably an exclusivity thing.

Obviously you have absolutley NO IDEA what you’re talking bout…THIS Bold 9650 was suppose to be the Tour 9650 replacment to the Tour 9630 but at last minute in Febuary, RIM stopped the release to consolidate lines and to basically drop the Tour name because there is so many bad stories going along with that name. It’s exactly the same other than the trackpad, wi-fi and the 512MB of flash memory…the dimensions are the same as the Tour, keyboard is the same…it even has the 96xx Tour numbering. Sorry to bust your bubble.

    Is that it?….Boring

I’m just awaiting anxiously for Verizon to confirm an official release date for BB Bold 9650. I’ve been searching all week long, and the only thing I found was a “rumored” of May 27th as a release date. Why can’t they just tell their customers the release date? Are they too afraid to commit and not stand by their commitment if they miss the release date?

    • bluehorseshoe

May 27 may be a good date. My inventory guy didn’t acknowledge or “deny” it. Might be sooner.

  • usccrep

this phone was confirmed with US Cellular. expect it out by July.

Spoke with a VZ rep today who back in december told me this (9650) would be released in may. So far he has some cred. He told me two things 1) He is dying to get the phone and 2) He doesn’t give a shit about Verizon. With that last sentence, he stated it was being released on May 15th He confirmed that he got another email from guy who emailed him May back in december.

The Spurs are losing by 14 right now vs Phoenix.

As a long time blackberry user, I have low expectations. I would be happy if this phone took less than 145 seconds to boot up after a battery pull.

    • Mitch

The boot time is actually closer to four minutes+ on the 9630 that I have and hate.

I can’t complain too much because it is a company phone and they foot my entire bill. I’d just rather have something interesting like the Incredible or Pre Plus.

I know better than to get my hopes up by now.

Where the BB slider @? Touch screen with a physical keyboard, like whoa….

  • Marcus

Wow this one looks amazing! Is that DOS I see running on it? Will it play ‘Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego’?

  • Eric

When I saw that the only thing RIM was going to give us as an upgrade to the Tour was the addition of WiFi and a trackpad it made it an easy decision to switch to the Incredible.

  • Jay Ino

Wow I Wanted this phone before the bold 9700 just because its a little bigger in size, however now forget about it …..step your game up RIM !!! evolve damn it. whats so special about OS 5? wow major upgrades trackpad and wifi ….ill pass

  • Neo

It looks like the other blackberry.

  • 762×51

Can’t believe this thing STILL isn’t out……so glad I stopped waiting. Too little, too late RIM. I’ve moved on to Android as have many faithful BB users.

  • iPoop

    @Neo,

    what doesn’t? lol.

I get tired of all the talk about how android and iphone are posing any real IMMEDIATE threat to RIM. ’09 was the most PROFITABLE year ever for RIM, and they are plowing through for a strong ’10. If they are losing US market share, it’s at a glacial pace. And they’re set to dominate in Asia where android and iphone options are simply way too expensive in comparison.

  • Gabby

i was talking to a guy that works for sprint on the phone & he said it would be coming out may 15th, & then he asked another dude if it was for sure, & the other dude said yeah. :)
i hope it comes out the 15th!
&+ why would they release it on a sunday? it would be better for friday, so people could get it over the weekend.
