Samsung: 50% of our smartphones will run Android, 33% bada

Samsung wasn’t kidding around when it promised to boost its Android offerings in 2010. Speaking to analysts on Friday, Samsung executives noted that over 50% of the Korean company’s smartphones slated for release in 2010 will run Google’s mobile OS. Taking up much of the remaining slack will be bada, Samsung’s very own OS. As it stands, the Wave is the sole announced bada handset (keep in mind we have seen more), but by the end of 2010 approximately 1/3 of Samsung’s smartphones should run the Linux-based platform. Samsung is the world’s second largest manufacturer of mobile phones having sold 64.3 million devices in Q1.

These smart phones are location aware so the more the merrier! They will be able to use Nixle’s geo-locating software. iPhone, Android, Nixle.

If they keep up this stupid yahoo crap that 50% really won’t help then much at all. Their only saving grace would be if google decoupled gmail and all of their services putting them on the android market so that users will at least have a choice.

I dont care how many Android devices Samsung makes. After the lack of support for the Moment, I would never buy another one.

After I had used a Samsung cell phone for 1 year…
    I’ll forever hate their phones.
    FOREVER.

Can you elaborate on which phone you had and why you feel that way?

It’s amazing that the Samsung i300 (running Palm OS) was the first true smartphone that I used and loved, Samsung made the best hardware including Dumbphones…and at this point IMO noone cares about Samsung hardware…

Now with HP/Palm, HTC, Apple, Moto and Blackberry… I dnt really see them ever gettng back in the game…

Yeah, If Samsung keeps using Yahoo as default anything in their Android phones, they can keep em. Yahoo! Are you serious, why not just use AOL? So retarded.

    • user

      Can the defaults be changed?
How is Yahoo any worse than google, incidentally?

    • oneknows

Why is it assumed that it was Samsung’s choice to put Yahoo on there? You think carrier has no power? assumptions…

  • Daniel

    agreed.. yahoo! blows
