Starting today, Verizon Wireless is rolling out the webOS 1.4.1.1 update to Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus owners. The update is a mere 11 mb in size and contains minor bug fixes including one that addresses that annoying “sticky key” problem in which a single key press produces double letters. Pinch to zoom is also expanded into Docs and PDF, WiFi to CDMA hand-off is more consistent, and battery life while using Bluetooth has also been improved. The update is available over the air and should arrive to Pre Plus and Pixi Plus handset within the next 48 hours. Hit the jump for the full changelog.

webOS 1.4.1.1 for the Verizon Wireless Pre Plus and Pixi Plus includes:

  • Easier to use Bluetooth.
    • Improved battery life when turning off Bluetooth without unpairing a device.
  • Displayed time feature is more accurate.
    • Automatic updates for Daylight Saving Time.
  • Easier connection management.
    • More consistent EV-DO connections when switching from Wi-Fi to CDMA.
  • Better Touchstone™ charger integration.
    • The screen will now turn off and display the lock icon and time after the Pixi Plus is docked with the Touchstone charger.
  • Newly taken photos and videos do not overwrite existing ones.
    • Improved picture display when cropping a picture for a contact.
  • Improvements:
    • Pinch to zoom now works in more applications.
    • The onscreen volume slider now appears correctly.
    • The forward gesture now works in the browser.
    • The back gesture now returns to the file list screen in certain applications.
    • The shutter sound is more responsive when taking a picture.
    • A single press of the power button now reliably wakes  up the display.
    • The LCD reset issue has been resolved.

        Financial backing or financial drain?!

Palm had financial backing with Elevation Partners containing the likes former Apple CFO Fred Anderson, singer Bono of U2, and a bunch of Wall Street guys, et. al. ( http://www.elevation.com/EP_IT_FLASH.asp )

How’d that work out for them?

Well like Goldmann Sachs, they make have pushed a “shitty” manufactured product with a good OS that got “shitty” air time or push from Sprint and Verizon and had “shitty” luck in competing with Apple’s iPhone and never gained traction before “shitty” Android came along and doomed all hopes, made out pretty good. Can’t tell you how the average investor that bought in at $5.71 a share or higher made out, but the Elevation Partners investors made out pretty good!

“Well, it has to do with the infamous “liquidation preference,” or the special clause in an investment contract that investors insert in order get their money “out” of a deal before anyone else gets theirs out.”

“So while this deal was by no means a success — Elevation would have wanted to return hundreds of millions to justify it to its investors — at least it didn’t lose its shirt on the deal.”

I just did the upgrade and now my phone wont turn on????

    • ceeaser

      pull the battery

    • ceeaser

also if you have anymore issues go to precentral.net in the forums they have all the answers there, also dont forget to apply the superkernal patch program, cpu scaling patch, and fast animations all at precentral.net to make your phone run at 800mhz its faster then the nexus one according to bench mark tests.

  • Nokia N900

WoW, i’m so happy for the 5 or 6 people who own a Palm phone.

    • ceeaser

I hope your name isnt the phone you have because I’m more then certain Palm sold more phones than that thing, it was forgotton when it was on the way to consumers to sell homie. As always with the HP merger Palm and WEB OS will certainly be the future…um theres room on the wagon if you want to come aboard son…its ok….come on….come on….bring extra diapers with you……

      • Nokia N900

ceeaser you’re entertaining, unfortunately entertaining does not translate into intelligent. Nokia has 40% of the phone market. Palm has like 0.3%, HP has even less, who the hell do you know that owns an HP iPaq phone? Unless you have a car that goes Back to the Future, talk about RIGHT NOW.

      • WebHed

Wow, the N900 looks like a real smartphone, even has a real OS instead of Symbian – too bad you have to put up with that flaky touchscreen. (can you say stylus?)
Market share is useless; or do you think that GM makes better cars than BMW or Porsche? Go play with your phone while you’re waiting for the capacitive touchscreen model to come out.

      • Nokia N900

It’s raining entertaining idiots today. Porsche just got bought out by Volkswagon, and BMW is starting to make entry level cars to expand it’s market share, so I would say yes market share does matter. Take a business class and come back when you have a valid argument.

      • Nokia N900

While you’re in Barnes and Noble trying to show off your iPad while using the free wi-fi go by the magazine isle and pick up the Consumer Reports on cars. You will notice that GM has a higher dependability rating than BMW and a lower cost of maintenance. USA!!!

  • bluehorseshoe

$20 more it makes a nice MiFi with unlimited calling on a family plan…just sayin’.

    • ceeaser

well if it isnt free go to precentral.net and download the files manually it works for the sprint and Verizon versions and its free. I use it for my sprint version and mifi my laptop, ipad, and desktop when I’m at home for everyone.

  • RuDdOgG

sticky is STILL sticky… patch did not fix the double letters…

  • Ash

Palm cant even make a smart-phone with LED Push notifications out of the
box. Instead they want us to install patches which add this feature.
lots of people cant even make it work, totally unacceptable Palm, not
to mention horrible advertising and an eternity to get the phone
out. end results speak volumes. Hopefully HP will pick up the ball
from here on… that is yet to be seen.

  • jttracey

I downloaded the upgrade this morning and it totally fixed the sticky key thing on my phone. That was the only issue I had with the phone, and it was a bad one. Very happy now!

  • Brad

You know, you can bash Palm all you want (I’ve done my fair amount), but who else out there, aside from maybe Apple releases OTA updates for their OS anywhere near as frequently as Palm? Windows Mobile updates are a joke, if not non-existant, Blackberry updates seem to be few and far between, and it looks like it’s going to take an act of Congress to actually bring Android updates to the table, no matter who the carrier or manufacturer is. I do think that Android updates will improve as the OS, hardware, and distribution channels mature, but it’s going to take some time. Palm, ailing as they are, seems to be doing quite well at quickly issuing updates to fix bugs or add new functionality to their devices.

  • Bryan

I installed the update and no more sticky keys. That was the only thing that I disliked about the phone.

  • sandman

I just updated my pixi and everything works beautiful! My biggest complaint was the scrren not waking up when you push the power key… Now that it’s fixed I’m a happy camper!
