It’s official, the Google Nexus One has landed on Vodafone. Interested customers eager to get their hands on the definitive Google superphone can head over to Vodafone’s UK website where pre-orders are being accepted starting today. The Nexus One will be available for free on a 24-month, minimum £35 ($55 USD) monthly price plan or an 18 month, minimum £40 ($62 USD) plan. Each price plan will include 1GB of cellular data usage and an additional 1Gb of data usage when connected to premium BT Openzone hotspots. Unlike the American version of the handset, Vodafone — not Google — will be providing direct support for the handset. Accordingly, the Nexus One will be also be sold in Vodafone retail stores, on Vodafone’s website, and via telesales starting April 30th.

so is it going to have the same problems the t-mobile one has?

You’ll also notice that Google won’t be releasing a Nexus One for Verizon any longer. They’re just telling people to get the HTC Incredible instead (as it’s better than the Nexus One anyway). Interesting development…though it makes tons of sense.

And the att 3g issue too..at least mine had a 3g connectivity problem big time..wouldnt hand off to edge properly would loose 3g and sit there with zero bars..i personally think google needs to scrap the N1 ..they really made a bad business decision to sell there phone online only and unless tmobile upgrade sell it for full retail..its gotten a bad reputation from what i can see for having sf issues and the fact that they have publicly said the are done with customers having 3gissues with it and your outta luck is terrible on there part..

I guess e-mail isn’t the only thing where the BlackBerry just “works” afterall. It can actually maintain a stable 3g connection. Hopefully this gets fixed for all the Droid fans though. I feel for you.

dont feel for me i dont use a n1 anymore..i did how ever get push email via gmail just fine ..my blackberry bold 9000 needed to be swapped 3 times for ‘just not working’

It’s still disappointing for Verizon customers who wanted a Nexus One

Blame Verizon for using an uncommon cell technology.

so much for that idea aye google. Shows you people don’t want to buy a phone directly from an OS provider. Btw you know you can buy a phone directly from the manufacter anyways and no one ever does. Stick to internet searches and os… Leave the sales to people who know what they are doing.

      I agree.

The nexus one had connectivity problems. When people have these problems, they want to know that they can go to a store and scream at a salesman until they receive satisfaction.

You can’t do that with a company that didn’t even provide a customer service phone # for YEARS for their own checkout service. This is why the nexus one is not going to do as well as other HTC & Motorola Android phones that are supported & sold through regular channels.

What about the success that Apple has selling their OS directly to the consumer? You’re not going to tell me that people would rather by the iPhone from the carrier?

      • http://www.rossmanngroup.com Louis Rossmann

For all I have to say about Apple support, they have support. You can find an Apple store anywhere, and when you find one not stocked full of pretentious hipsters they do try to help you through all your problems.

How many Google stores are there compared to Apple stores to go to when you have a problem with your device?

You can sell a device and do well without brick & mortar, bhut to expect just as many sales is pigheaded.

        Agreed

Unless Google and HTC have addressed all the issues with the Nexus One, don’t waste your time or money!

This is disappointing. First, Google supposedly discontinues investigation of the 3G issues for Tmo customers. Then no Nexus One on Verizon and now Vodafone customers will have a seemingly easier time getting their hands on one.

This is a silly thought, but is it possible Google is looking forward to a “Nexus Two/Moto Shadow” or whatever it’s called next? After all of these developments it sounds like some sort of abandonment.

Wow, Google figured out something everyone else already knew, “Google is not a retailer.” Now, if they could just announce to the world that they are taking their platform back they might be able to save Android from peaking right now. By taking control of their OS and the Market Place for their OS Google would essentially allow Android to remain a growing platform. If they don’t, this year will be remember as Android’s high point.

ႈIt is just me to or U.K got cheaper smartphone plan than we do? “free on a 24-month, minimum £35 ($55 USD) monthly price plan or an 18 month”. I got mine from T-mobile along with two phones for my mom and brother for $100 a month. If I had to get it just for my self, I would have to pay $60 a month for 550 minutes with android data plan. And I paid $560 for the phone while they got it free. Everything must be cheaper in U.K.
Ohh, I don’t have much issues with my Nexus one unless I am in semi dead zone and low signal area, where Edge would drop from 2-3 bars to 0 if I cover the bottom back. But in most area, I got full 3G and I can hold it how ever I want. I even got full bar in DC metro.

  • DavidB

Seriously, WHO would buy one of these when Google has essentially acknowledged the thing has a hardware flaw they can’t fix with software updates? Unless that flaw is only on the USA 3G bands and not on the overseas 3G bands???

    • Peter F

I seriously don’t know where all these complaints are coming from. I currently have a Nexus One on AT&T in Minneapolis, MN and it works just fine.

  • Ryan

Oh well!!! Already ordered my Incredible and like the looks better than the N1 anyway. The added memory of the Incredible is a nice bonus too. Google f’d up with the N1!

  • Nexus One Owner (at&t)

    Dear borthers in the UK.

    DO NOT buy this phone!
Every version of this phone has had the 3G connectivity issue to date (T-Mob US and AT&T). Since the UK version will be one of the above (I would guess the at&t version), you too will be the happy recipients of a flawed phone (that can’t even make calls) and GOOG will do nothing about it.

I have had my N1 for 1 1/2 months and it is a piece of $H!#! The phone definitively has a hardware or software flaw with its 2G/3G reception. Other phones will have 4 (out of 4) bars and the N1 will drop to 0-1 when making a call! Every call with a reception of less than 2 bars on the N1 will result in the party you are calling not hearing you (they only get digital noise).
If you lose reception it will take the phone 5-10 minutes to get reception back EVEN IF YOU STAND NEXT TO A CELL TOWER!!!!!!!

DO NOT buy this phone if you plan to actually use it!!!
It is pretty to look at but unusable as a phone!

  • cV

Google acknowledged there is an issue but recently declared that they aren’t going to fix it. (A little ridiculous how little press this is getting!!!)

Unless Google and HTC have addressed all the issues with the Nexus One, don’t waste your time or money!
