Pearl 3G Large

Following this mornings official announcement of the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, Canadian carriers Telus and Rogers have proclaimed, via press releases, that they will be carrying the Pearl 3G in the coming months. The Telus announcement reads:

Starting in May, this smartphone will be available from TELUS in pink and in black for as little as $29.99 on a three-year plan. For more information about the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G smartphone, please visit http://www.blackberry.com/pearl3

The Rogers announcement was a bit more non-committal as far as dates go:

Pricing and availability will be announced in the coming weeks. For additional information about Rogers’ lineup of BlackBerry smartphones, please visit www.rogers.com. For more information about the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100, please visit www.blackberry.com/pearl3G

Any folks north of the border planning to pick up one of these hot little — and we do mean little — numbers?

UPDATE: The PR team from Bell Canada just sent us a little note and would like to be included in the Canadian BlackBerry fun: “Bell Mobility will carry the device is May and it will operate on our HSPA network.”

anyone knowing if rim is going to announce other devices or the os 6.0 at wes??

    • George

Highly doubtful. It would be pretty stupid to announce a new OS after announcing two new devices that won’t be released running that new OS.

i’m disappointed.. i expected more from rim, at least something to stand up instead they basically let apple win with their iphone 4g and 4.0. and i don’t hate apple, i am an iphone user but a blackberry lover. if blackberry had a browser like mobile safari, i would probably throw my iphone because i don’t find anything else interesting. way to go rim.

You mean like announcing a tablet and then announcing the new version of the OS to run on that tablet after it is launched? Yeah, what sort of stupid company would do that…

The 9100 and 9650 will have OS5.0 at launch; OD6.0 will launch roughly one quarter later (according to Mike L at a press conference today). What makes you think these devices won’t be field-upgradable like RIM has been doing for the last forever-years?

The specs list AWS bands as well. So there’ll be a version for all carriers in Canada (except Public Mobile).

I still have the original pearl 8100 that I have been rocking for over 3 years. I have been trying to avoid going to the larger phones although the 9700 was making it very hard lately. Thank god for the 9100 announcement as I can’t wait for Rogers to release it. I love the form factor and the one-handed functionality of the original and now it has all the speed and features of the newer devices and then some. Thank you RIM

I may be from Waterloo, but until RIM actually releases a blackberry worthy of comparing to…. say, the HTC Desire, my next phone is going to be an Android (I’m currently using a BB 8820). I can’t stand 5′s UI and the desktop media manager is agony to use. The only way I’d use this thing would be if it was given to me for free.

It’s awesome that Blackberry Pearl 3G has been added to the Telus Cell Phones.
