Official: HTC Nexus One not coming to Verizon Wireless

mobile

VZW Nexus One Incredible Diddy

We’re not sure this really matters, but…it looks like Verizon Wireless will not be getting the HTC Nexus One after all. If you direct your browser over to Google’s phone purchasing site, you’ll notice a nice little note under the Verizon Nexus One section that reads:

For Verizon’s network, you can buy the Droid Incredible by HTC, a powerful Android phone and similarly feature-packed cousin of the Nexus One.

Previously, the note had suggested the Motorola DROID as an alternative for those fanboys Android lovers that just could not wait, however, when we contacted Google for clarification they gave us this statement on the record:

We won’t be selling a Nexus One with Verizon, and this is a reflection of the amazing innovation happening across the open Android ecosystem. Verizon Wireless customers who want an Android phone with the power of the Nexus One can get the Droid Incredible by HTC, which can be pre-ordered now and which will be available in Verizon Wireless stores on Thursday, April 29th.

We feel the HTC Incredible is an ample, and logical, successor to the N1. Any of you Verizon Wireless, Android junkies have your little hearts dead-set on the Sexy Nexy?

Have Moto Droid and LOVE IT. Say N1 and was kinda excited when thought it was coming it Verizon. Will now buy the Incredible Thursday and replace my BB Storm 2 and very excited about that. There has been discussion of metal v plastic. Storm 2 has metal backing and is a bit heavy for that matter Moto Droid is a bit heavy. This is a personal issue. I prefer the plastic to the metal. Many may not understand this but I was around when cars were metal inside and out. They rattled a lot and wore out. My plastic interior doesn’t rattle. Think I will like the Incredible even more. One more thought. Always thought I wanted a Iphone but AT&T’s service in my area sucks as a matter of fact I just think AT&T sucks. Could even fix my home phone so I cancelled it. But now that I have used the Droid wouldn’t buy an Iphone even if VZW gets one.

    • Pooka

It just said they aren’t getting the Nexus One. Read the article next time.

Refer to my post…Dream on! Oh, and I have a sticker name tag for you. Good Day.
      P.S. The sky is falling!

  • Stupac

I am so getting the Incredible. I had the Eris when it first came out and was almost scarred to the point of not buying another Android Device

  • Pooka

This makes perfect sense. From what I can tell the Incredible is as good as or better than the N1. I definitely think that I’ll have to take a good hard look at it on Thursday when it comes out.

I love the replies to my posts. That means u read them and im getting through. And were not in grammar school last time i checked, so ur replies to my spelling errors, knowing its a typo only further illustrated u have nothing to say in return but blame the spelling.

Anyhow, in reply to the guy who said cdma has 650mil subscribers, ill say haha ! Check ur math, but even if u were correct(which ur not) what happened the the other 6bill ppl ? Thanks for highlighting my point,

To the posterwho said im typing with my fists , i do actually, i had a boxing match and im icing both hands, thanks for ur concern,

now lets get back to our discussion,

everyone out there is in one way or another trying to chase, Mimic or copy the iphone in one way or another. And thats true iphone revolutionised the industry, every time new device comes out no matter the manufacturer what do the critics, reviwers and editors say ?? “i is this the iphone killer ?” they dont say blackberry killer or htc killer or android killer or samsung killer. Why not ? Bc iphone has the benchmark , likr it or not, its the device to beat, device everyone loves to hate, device everyone comaring everything to from screen size to battery life. So IPHONe us king, like it or not, it is.

Y is it not on verizon yet is another story, but i can see y not , its a global device, made fir the masses, works in every continent, on most carriers, what does this mean ?
One manufacturer, one device(and a damb good one), one os, possible multiple carriers. Now it does have its short comings.

Lets look at htc, garbage comp, that produces phones for anyone under the sun, just flooding the market, thats manufacturing a new phone every month with NOT sufficiently better features to manufacture one. Now if N1 were to come out, it would for the first time , insure that the comp stands behind its product so much that its launching it trully world wide in every single carrier. I personally had the N1 in hand and it feels great, features are nice, cam is good, screen us awesome and its fast. But what does htc say? ” lets find idiots that we can sell a hyped up phone to that will be absolete in a month bc we’ll sell a better phone to its competitor in a month, so by the time they get it, someth else better us out there already, any suggestions who would be that stupid ? Who gets the worst phones out there ? Ooh i know i know, the name starts with a V and ends with an N”

Meanwhile sprint, sitting pretty, laughing, enjoying their front row seats to the whole hype, bc the htc evo theyre getting is far better than this hyped up competitors model, they know it, verizon knows it, and best of all all of you know it.

The uniting if the standard didnt happen this time, but i guess it will some day, maybe after they read these posts,

and now u gyus tell me now is 8mpx that much better than 5 ? Iphone cam has 3mpx but is of such high quality, its better than most 5mpx,
Features are very very similar, but again incredible will not be incredible, after evo comes out,

And to the guy that lives in bumblefuck iowa ir as he calls it “middle america” make some money and move somewhere where they want to place cell phone towers, not where one needs a sat phone and a shovel to go and use the toilet. Ye big traveler, if you travel then ud have gsm, but thats me , i do travel, and ok with one world device even if its “ify” here some times. A

verizon get iphone already and call it a day, the whole world uses it , enough of these “only available exclusivelly through vz” crap.

Htc stop copying blackberry and releasing new devices every other month, with in adequate improvements to call it a “a new device”. Instead make one great super device (maybe like the evo i dont know ill have to c) and run with it, across all carriers, that creates value and credibility.

    Iphone-1 device

blackberry – htc – nokia – sony- mot- all have many devices that basically do the same thing,
but iphone still outsells all of them, y ?

Think before u answer and blame Jobs, controll, marketing crap, blackmail, and other stupidity.
Think y so many ppl just buy one phone, from one manufactirer, from one carrier, y ? Y does a iphone comea with new version once a year ?

    Think before u answer,
but N1 i loved, nice feel, nice phone, so bring on the other 10 htc phones that will get released between now and new year and lets c, but verizon is just a junkyard of the phones, hahah i mean they got pre and pixi a few months ago and palm about to go under, i mean at least sprint had the first dibs, verizon got it when ppl already had it, ate it, and spat it out……straight to verizon

I love the neg rating btw. Is this the most one got here ?

  • tim-n-ar

Ez, you’re full of it, and yourself. You might want to check your facts. The Blackberry Curve is the top selling smartphone, not the iphone. There are several Blackberrys that outsell the iphone. Android will be surpassing iphone as well, it has already begun. If you like the iphone, that’s great. Let that be reason enough to love and use it. You do not have to make up lies and be such an ass in the process. The iphone is not the best device ever, and on its current path, there will be many phones much better *cough* EVO

  • BGRKixAx

If any of you didn’t see this coming there’s a short yellow school bus waiting outside of your house, and the driver has a sticker name tag with your name on it. Sexy or not, the N1 just wouldn’t be worth the effort at this time for Verizon. Legal issues with the N1, and of course the HTC Droid Incredible is slightly more superior then the N1. Additionally, who the hell wants to fork over 5 Benjamins and purchase it direct from Google when the Droid Incredible is simply cheaper up front, becoming real popular, really quick, and a bit better. I like the N1, but the Droid Incredible is obviously the smarter choice, which is why I’m getting the Droid Incredible really soon. No use debating this, the N1 won’t be coming to Verizon, and the Droid Incredible will be Verizon’s Diamond Jewel until the next best thing comes along.

      I agree wholeheartedly!

    Tim-N-Ar,
    read my post carefully ,
curve ? Best selling blackberry, that is absolete, and has been around for how long ? Ok. Whats the best selling smart phone today ? And last year ? Thats right ! So shut hole ! Get ur facts straight, and stop living in 2006. Blackberry is done ! Finito ! On the way down! Nothing smart about their smart phones anymore, iphone, android are the phones of tomorrow, not the useless piece of junk blackberry devices, that there is 5 or 10 models that all do EXACTLY the same thing, which is email and text, if they dont buy palm their finished, they had their time on stage and its over, and btw during blackberry hayday the best blaxkberry devices STILL werent on verizon, i mean VZ just got the curve 2 att and tmo had it for how many years before ? 1? 2? Exactly ! Vz still doesnt havr the bold 2 even today, the best BB ever, ? Y not ? Bc verizon just likes to gey shit phones woth obscene ETFs. Let me explain it to you in everyday terms, maybe u can undestand, you walking on the street y c 2 girls , one gorgeos, all the right ratios, dressed super sexy, smart smoking hot to sum up, and right next yo her u c another girl that not so atractive , short, fat, acne, bad breath, disgusting dirty , so u walk and wonderi know someone is hitting that ass, the gorgeos girl, but then ur thinking whos hitting that animal next to her ? Answer: some one does. The girls are the phones, the ppl that are hiting them is carriers, so no matter what every piece of crap has a buyer, in this case its verizon, and hence verizon consumer.

And again if u read my post carefully. U will c that i actually praise evo. But again verizon is not getting, so if u dont understand c example above and if you dont understand then youre an embacile, and if u dont know what that is go tothe bathroom look in the mirror and look there ……. Unless you live up shits creek in bumble fuck iowa and on way to the bath room instead of toilet paper u cary a shovel, and brag how att doesnt work there, then i just cant help u……

    • eh?

Can’t be bothered to write it out in detail, multiple people have done so already.

      ——-

For the EVO, it’s a great device. Your assertions that people will still be taking the Incredible out of the box while you’re playing with your EVO are rather interesting, considering the Incredible is being sold starting April 29 (2 days from now as of April 27) while the EVO is being sold…..”this summer.” No release date for it yet.

Now why wouldn’t VZW be getting the EVO? Simple, it is being built to showcase what a WiMax device is capable of. VZW (or ATT or T-Mobile) does not have WiMax, and will not be launching a network with it. So that is a moot point. Take out the WiMax and you essentially have an Incredible with a larger screen.

As for Sprint sitting on the sidelines laughing….they’re doing spectacular, that’s why they’re still bleeding customers each quarter right? I really would like to see Sprint succeed, competition is a good thing, but they have other things to worry about than the Incredible.

HTC devices are some of the best built devices in the industry right now and are getting better with each new model. I can’t wait to see what they make in the future.

As for Apple and why it’s so popular. It’s APPLE. They can slap a logo on a block of wood and it would likely be the Next Big Thing. (The iWood, it’s magical and even earth friendly! It’s so easy to use!) Never underestimate the power of marketing and making people think they look “cool.” I really do like the aesthetics of the iPad and the laptops, but at least I’m not blind.

As for “verizon should just get the iPhone already and be done with it.” You do realize that AT&T likely has at least one more year of exclusivity on their contract with Apple right? I would love to be pleasantly surprised (ie. wrong about the exclusivity) come June but realistically, any statements about the iPhone coming to VZW before sometime mid 2011 (after VZW’s LTE network should be in full swing and when AT&T’s exclusivity “may” come to an end) would be rumors and wishful thinking.

Personally? I would LOVE to see a hybrid CDMA/UMTS iPhone. It would be one of the few devices that would be able to reach the absolute widest audience possible (well, with the exception of China, but there is one there on a different technology). But realistically, I doubt that will ever happen until LTE is more established.

Anywho, back to the topic at hand. Love the Incredible, liked the Nexus One. Sad to see the Nexus One not coming to VZW, more nice phones are always good.

      • eh?

“Can’t be bothered to write it out in detail, multiple people have done so already.”

Was in reference to the spelling/grammar/odd logic criticism I was going to put at the front of the post but got lazy.

(WTB a way to edit posts, and I need to stop using less-than/greater-than when bracketing something)

  • tim-n-ar

ez, you make a few good points. However, the nonsense that you spew in between is just that…nonsense. I agree, Blackberry is outdated, 2006 you say. Well, the iphone is still stuck in 2007 when it came out…so not much better. I’m glad you praise the EVO…you get credit for that. It will be by far the best phone ever on the market. As far as your GSM VS CDMA argument: GSM holds up to 6 calls per channel, CDMA holds up to 50. That’s why GSM carriers drop calls a lot more often than their CDMA counterparts. That’s also the reason I hear the following message half the time I try to reach someone with an att phone, “We’re sorry, but all circuits are busy now, please try your call again later.” Your argument of, “Most of the world uses GSM,” doesn’t hold up. Most of the world is communist. However, we know that the less common Democracy form of government is much better. Just because something is more popular or more widely used doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t do the greatest good. If you travel the world and need a phone that can roam, get a GSM phone, or even a world phone from Sprint or Verizon. At least, with the world phone, you’d get better service 99% of the time while you’re here in the US. The US is all that matters to most of the population, because most of the population do not travel abroad. The US is by far majority CDMA, and for good reason. Even when Verizon goes to LTE, and Sprint to WIMAX, they will still use CDMA for their voice calls, because it is so efficient. Both carriers have already stated that. Just between the 4 major carriers, 150 million are on CDMA, 120 million on GSM. Then every one of the small regional carriers (Cricket, US Cellular, Metro PCS, Allied, etc) are also all using CDMA. So, that’s around 180 million on CDMA, 120 million on GSM. Over the years, who has received the awards for best call quality and fewest dropped calls? Verizon and Sprint. Go figure. So, if GSM works for you, great. Thankfully, I have a choice…and it is CDMA.

This is a major blow to Google’s distribution model… while i was hoping it would succeed… should have figured it wouldn’t work with vzw’s customer demographics… they are just too dependent on direct support…

  • LinuxGeek

Was in a Verizon Store last week. Salesman confirmed that they won’t be getting Nexus one as the Droid Incredible is the same spec if not better so no point.
