Yesterday, Microsoft announced its Q3 2010 earnings, and we’re pleased to report things went well for the Redmond, WA company. Riding the success of Windows 7, Microsoft beat analysts expectations with $14.5 billion in revenue and a net income of $4.01 billion or $0.45 per share. As previously mentioned, Windows 7 was a smash hit helping Windows revenue climb 28%. Some 10% of PCs world-wide are now running Windows 7. Sales of the Xbox 360 helped the Entertainment Division’s revenue increase to $165 million. The one major downfall for Microsoft was Bing, as search engine lost the company a hefty $713 million.

Welcome back, Microsoft. You had us all quite scared for a while.

how dare u guys disliked my post. It’s microsoft people…dead technology. do a test, ok. think of the workd “microsoft” then quickly write down the first 3 things that come to ur minds that are associated with Microsoft. Ready?? ok…go!

      Microsoft…
      1. Grade 8 (1993) – using the internet for the first time.
      2. Pentium 4 w/hyper threading and overclocking…ummm…what was that grade 12 (1998)
      3. Blue screen of death…lost every single thing on my HD for the 1st time including a ton of porn and hard to get pirated software like Maya and something something Fractal Pro…wow, this is awesome lol, and i forgot all about that. that was in..(1996) or so.

There u go folks. The facts never lie.
      Microsoft = s.h.i.t.

Apple’s profit was 3 billion vs Microsoft’s 4 billion, yet Apple may catch MS in market capitalization any day now.

      Wishful thinking dude.

Here are the numbers as of 12:22 PM EST

Microsoft $271.53 billion (Market Cap: Stock price x’s outstanding shares.)http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=msft

Apple $244.41 billion (Market Cap: Stock price x’s outstanding shares.)

For the record Microsoft once had a Market Cap of over $500 billion and Apple’s was just $6 in 1997. Things change, one went up and one went down. In business it’s all about leadership.

By Standards & Poors measure, it’s already happened, Apple at $241.5B and Microsoft at $239.5B, but there is some controversy in their accounting because they remove non-public shares (which means Gates and Balmers 12% share isn’t figured in the total market cap).

Correct but incorrect. It’s called a “Float”. The index is determined by the shares that are actually traded. Since Gates and Ballmer (and a couple of others) have no need to trade there shares, they don’t trade them. The index values companies by the shares that are actually traded.

Windows 7 is awesome. Picked up the Professional edition directly from Microsoft for $29.99 shipped. Couldn’t say no to that deal. Runs like a dream on an i7 with 6GB of triple channel ram :) Startup is as fast as coming off hibernate on XP.

@Mmyeyey – I hope steve jobs is as giving as Bill is with his fortunes.

I have no doubt that as soon as Steve Jobs decides to give up creating new things he will also give away the mass of his fortunes. I really wish Bill would have stayed along longer.

Way to go Microsoft! I love Windows 7 and can’t wait for WP7.

  • Off Topic!

If they got off their asses and gave us the Courier, they could see those numbers climb higher.

Come on MS… ball is starting to roll now… keep it going…

    • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

Courier? Oh, you mean that thing in the video. I agree that Microsoft would benefit from a product like that. First though, they have to get away from the idea of a full blown desktop OS on a Tablet device. Bill Gates once said that you can’t reinvent the Operating System. I would imagine he feels differently about that since 2007.

What’s up with that last line? You were worried? Microsoft posted great numbers last quarter, too. In fact, their only “bad” quarter still was billions of dollars in net income, it was just the first quarter where they didn’t increase it.
