HP Slate gets unofficially reviewed, officially dissed

Rumor

hp-slate-leak-review

Tech blog, Conecti.ca, reportedly got its hands on a pre-release copy of the HP Slate and did a quick unofficial hands on review. The review, in Spanish and machine-translated by Google, is not kind toward the Windows 7-powered device. The review is peppered with negativity including the observation of ”a long and annoying load time operating system” and a final verdict upholds the less-than enthusiastic theme of the review by proclaiming that the device and its experience is “meh”. On the plus side, the device has “expansion ports ad-nauseum” and, though made of plastic, the slate “feels dense and tough”. Overall, the reviewers see this device as a portable competitor to netbooks and not necessarily the proverbial iPad killer that the device is touted to be.

“the slate “feels dense and tough”. ”

Hahahahaha, kinda like an out of work sparring partner.

iPads are light and beautiful, like a ‘prima ballerina’.

Were you wearing your tutu when you typed that?

Imagine.. a tablet that actually runs the programs you already have and want to run.. what a novel idea

    • RidleyGriff

Imagine, buying a tablet to run programs designed for a keyboard and a mouse.

      • Ridley’s Doc

        Imagine Ridley without a micropecker.

  • allen cashe

i’ll wait for the courier for simple mobile computing, it’s actually not trying to be a ipad competitor , and is inovative, i’d buy it on day one.

  • http://sure? ME, whether your like it or not

OK. this is ALL i have to say. There is no such thing as an “ipad” killer because the Ipad is going to kill itself. OOOOO, look at me, i have something that has almost no functionality besides being a really FANCY FRIGGIN Paperweight. WHAT can you do on the Ipad that you can’t do on most pdas nowadays? oh, wait, i know. the answer is LOOK COOL. yeah, steve jobs is all about the innovation. apple has created a….smartphone? GENIUS never thought of before. they’ve created….a music downloading system? napster anyone? apple has innoviation coming out their you know what, alright. i hate all you apple F-tards and you really need to get a life because you aren’t cool by posing as people who hate apple, you aren’t cool because you have an Iphone and you don’t know how to use it, you aren’t cool because you can afford apples products. This is all. peace. Dan-R.

Don’t like it? Don’t buy it. Simple as that. Considering the iPad already got 500,000 units sold in its first 2 weeks of being released I don’t think its going to die anytime soon. I’m not an Apple Fanboy, but I’ve noticed that while Apple isn’t necessarily always first, they always do it right. Look at the iPhone, before it smartphones were clunky with shitty interfaces, then iPhone came along and now the interfaces are great, there wouldn’t be an android without iPhone.

  • Tdot34

I don’t care either way, I would never use a slate/tablet/pad computer…. I got a laptop and need/want full functionality. These computers are going to be a huge fad in the consumer market, but they do have great uses in the business market. I already have a smartphone and laptop, I really don’t need a device to fill a non-existent void.

Apple has gone out and done a great job marketing the iPad as a must have device. They have even gone to lengths buying “News” stories about how the Norwegian President is using an iPad to communicate with government while stuck in some country because of that Volcano…. seriously Apple, he couldn’t have use a the laptop or a telephone be probably has? Nice try though, any one with half a brain should realize it was an advertisement masked as a news story.

To Dan R, great comments. So people get iPhones and Apple products to look cool? What an insecure dork you must be. You obviously don’t have much money so get off your computer and start to hustle. Get a second job. And a third. Work 80-90 hours a week and you will find yourself not on these site and not caring who uses what product. Lazy and poor, 2 consistent characteristics of Apple haters. This is America, you can anything you want if you’re willing to work for it.

    • Missy T

Someone sounds angry they got suckered into an overpriced, underpowered iPad.

      • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

Yeah, that is how a $235 billion company becomes successful. Never could their products be useful to users. Just mindless people wasting money.

Like a multitude of others, you mother should have swallowed.

    • Dara

      Jack,

Maybe if you learned how to leverage a computer to make money, you wouldn’t have to work 80 hours a week.

  • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

What I don’t understand about Microsoft is this, why would you make a mobile operating system? Hell, if you are going to use a desktop variant on a “Tablet” (like Microsoft has been doing on all those popular “Tablets”) why wouldn’t Microsoft just use a desktop OS for cell phones? Why bother developing WPS7?

    Cheers.

Looks great HP, okay I am not telling the truth I know.

  • Billy Jack

Do you know what they call fans of the iPad? Yep, homos.

If you don’t like this comment, do you know what you are? Yep, a fan of the iPad.

    • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

I would comment on your ignorance but I can not. Your stupidity is such that correcting your stearing issue would not straighten your ship.

May your mother swallow the next time conception is possible. Our hope is eternal on this issue.

      • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett’s Mom

        I swallowed Jarrett’s load…and I’m still thirsty.

    • eric

      Wow, ignorant AND a bigot.

      • eric’s dad

Come on son, it’s time to pack some fudge. I wuv u!!!

    • Jarrod

If you clicked “dislike” to Billy Jack, then you are an iPad fan.

  • Frederic Fredrico

Screw the HP Slate computer, I’m getting me one of them big Apple Touch devices. Then I can pretend to flip book pages even though I haven’t read a book in about 15 years. Then I will watch me some Hulu. What? No Hulu. Oh, then I’ll buy me the same shows on iTunes.

    • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

So when Hulu finishes that iPad app what is your next peev?

      • jawman

you have to sit and wait for them to make an app for that?
can’t you just go online and watch hulu through the browser?

      • Michael

the fact its a waste of time, seriously who needs a cell phone? laptop? mp3 player annnnnnd a ipad? i could see a tablet pc since it would be more compact than a laptop, my hd2 replaced everything but i keep my zune hd to save battery on phone..

      • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

        I like the peckerlick app.

  • Yo

A netbook is already an iPad killer.

    • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

That would explain why most companies have cut back the number of NetBooks they are producing this year. Understanding something about business isn’t useful unless you are actually speaking factually. Get informed about what companies are doing before you make stupid comments.

      Cheers,

Make the world a better place
Punch stupid people in the fat stupid face

      • Yo

Lol, the zune was sold out for months and that thing is a pos. What was your point?

  • Glandberg

“Real techies hate apple products”. the janitor at Apple is more of a techy than any of you frauds that comment here and bash Apple. iPhone rules. apple rules and you bashers are kidding yourselves. oh and the iPad, it will also be a huge success. 2 weeks since release and sold out. what a bomb it was. a holes all of you.

i think the Slate is an interesting looking device and have since rumors of it’s existence were out there. HP makes a nice computer IMO. Perhaps the OS hasn’t been fully optimized for it yet, I would think they would have a quick booting option of some sort.

If not, I wouldn’t be surprised if boot time is long, one more thing for people to bash inevitably. Battery life and possible apps are obviously going to be major important. oh, and price.

I agree that HP’s OS hasn’t been fully optimized yet. One of the reasons Apple was able to release the iPad as quickly as they did was because it is essentially a bigger version of the iPod touch or iPhone, with beefier specs. The OS already handles well on touch/iphone so they just transfer that to the ipad. HP however is starting fresh.

      • FunkyG

Yeah, and the HP slate is nothing more than a windows powered netbook with its keyboard chopped off.

HP are hardly starting fresh. Windows based tablets have been around for years

  • Dan R

This is addressed directly to Jack Tee. :) obviously I must not have a job because I posted something. I can see how you can correlate that. Those 2 go together hand in hand. It’s not like I look at this stuff FOR my job or anything. Also, because I lack a job, I must be poor. Another great assumption. Pretty sure my paycheck says otherwise. I love your comments though, saying how only the rich can be dbags? doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, you are still a DBAG. Love ya!

1 unoffical bad review which had to translated does not mean too much to me. When the Slate comes out and is properly reviewed by the masses then that would be a proper review. Why are all the Apple idoits on the post so childish and ingnorant? I had an itouch been there done that, no thank you.

    • W

      Add to that

1 Unofficial Bad Review that was comprised of what he thought when looking at it for 10 minutes

  • ron

Slate. Hahahahahha, use chalk as a stylus.

  • John

Yet another “iPad/iPhone” killer that failed to live up to the hype. It can join the 1st BB Storm and the Palm Pre as the most recent to meet that fate. And why does a device have to “kill” another. Can two similar products co-exist in the market? It’s funny how people hate Apple so much they can’t wait for the next hottest device so they can label it a “iKiller”. Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. At this point there isn’t anything out right now killing Apple’s iPhone/iPad momentum.

    • Mudd But

My anus has Apple’s momentum. Wanna take a look again?

  • eric

MobileGuru has a point. One bad review doesn’t mean much. There have been bad reviews of the iPad as well, and it’s a smashing success. Of course, there were tons of good reviews too.

Apple haters are a pathetic bunch. They judge before they try, and they deny themselves some great tools becuase they can’t bring themselves to be open-minded enough to actually try them seriously.

Thus is how the world works. It’s better to remain silent and let people think you’re a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

    • AndroidUser

I use a MacBook thats a year old… Bought it new, and even threw on there Snow Leopard. I can’t wait to graduate so I can sell this POS. The battery is crap (lasted only a year before randomly shutting off) and I wanna shoot that F’in spinning beach ball when it takes a dump on my computer every day. I was excited when I bought it, but now I’m running Win7 on a 3 year old desktop I inherited (Vista ran like shit on it) and it can do laps around this macbook. This macbook is spec’d out from a year ago, 4Gigs of Ghz ram, 2.4Ghz Core2 duo. and a Gateway with an AMD Athlon 4400+ with 2Gigs of 667Mhz RAM is much more enjoyable. I believe Win7 can be portable (its on netbooks, but only the Starter Edition is lacking).
If I do get a slate, I would probably go Android. The Ipad was laggy as hell and most apps aren’t made for it yet, they have to be magnified and the look like garbage… Also Youtube looks better on my phone…. And I don’t have to pay $600 + $130 to use it on the go. ATT’s coverage sucks, so you’re pretty much limited to metropolitan areas.

  • ron

@MobileGuru, ” Why are all the Apple idoits on the post so childish and ingnorant? ”

idoits!! Ingnorant?? Pot – kettle. Hahahaha. Ignoramus.

    • MobileGuru

      You prove my point.

  • W

Hard to call it a review when the guy only had it for 10 minutes.
