Motorola DEVOUR gets an OTA update

Motorola DEVOUR_FrontOpen_H4-Web

Good news for Motorola DEVOUR owners as Verizon is now pushing out an OTA update for the Android smartphone. First off, no, it doesn’t magically turn our Donut into a delicious Eclair. But what it (“it” being software update CALAND_X_o1.15.08P) does do is improve the overall performance and reliability of the device while stomping out a few nasty bugs. To us, that’s pretty hard to argue with. Full change log after the jump.

Enhancements:

Device performance

  • Improved response time when Menu, Home, and Back keys are pressed.
  • Adjustments to improve the accuracy of signal strength indicators on the display.
  • Stability improvements made to browser, contacts, and V CAST Music with Rhapsody applications.
  • Multiple enhancements to incoming call performance.
  • Volume keys will now function within the Mobile IM application.
  • Improvements made to ensure pictures are uploaded in the correct orientation.

Email and Calendar

  • Improved functionality to allow users to more easily delete POP3 email accounts.
  • Changed display when setting up new email accounts, prompting users to use a back slash instead of a forward slash.
  • Enhanced Exchange ActiveSync Calendar agenda view to display meeting titles.
  • Verizon.net email accounts will now auto-configure.

Audio

  • Overall improvements to ringer, voice dialing application, and multimedia audio when using a headset.
  • DEVOUR 1.15.83 includes updated versions of Google applications.

For Realz. Does it upgrade the hardware to something from this decade?

So, how are the 7 people who picked up the Devour liking it?

    • Eric

The seven people who bought it are taking it back this week and pre-ordering the Incredible.

Take your iPhone and shove it where you don’t get service (which would be most places) you AT&T morons.

Anyone that has this phone how do you like it?

Its basically a vzw branded Sidekick as far as I’m concerned. I wouldn’t get one but curious about it none the less. I was expecting it to do decently was my guess

My husband loves the devour. Has alumin case and a Sars rating of only .4 as compared to the 1.46 of the droid and incred. It feels much more solid when sliding out the keyboard than the droid. Put in a holster on the belt nicer to have a more solid phone

I like the phone alot, it fits my need well. I work for an indirect agent and fell in love with the phone the first time i saw it. i really like the look and feel of the phone. with that said of course there’s gunna be some things about the phone i do not like. example being that whentnhey designed the phone, how did they not notice all the open space that could have been used to make the screen bigger. also, im not liking the thought of being stuck in 1.6, i see that the backflip is for sure getting their update but there has yet to be a for sure release time period for the devour. i believe it says they are reaserching the possibilty or something like that. like i said tho overall i like the phone alot, the user interface is very nice, it looks amazing. and the functionality of the phone is superb. i have not run into any problems yet, the keyword being yet!

I like the Devour. It feels bigger in the hand than the Moto Droid, and it doesn’t have as nice a screen…but it fills a niche in between the HTC Eris and Moto Droid quite nicely. The keyboard is definitely an improvement over the Moto Droid and the touch screen is nicer than on the Eris. Again, pricing is on pace right in between the Eris and Droid. It didn’t get alot of attention or medial play, but it is still a nice device.

    *Media Play…not medial. ;)

i actually love blur… i cant wait for more powerful devices to get blur, and i love how microsoft and a buncha other people are now bringing what webOS and blur did for a while, and everyone is like “YAY!” now… but regardless, it does a lot more shit than just bring my social networking to me. the messaging integration is awesome and so is the contacts list. and i’m using the backflip, too.

This last update messed up my contact list. Names are still there, but numbers aren’t. Contact pictures aren’t showing up either.

Should I just wait it out or be concerned?

Daughter got this phone. Current version indicated is
Blur_Version.1.15.83.Calgary.Verizon.en.US. the update metioned above is: CALAND_X_o1.15.08P.
Are these the same? When following the link to the Verizon update It mentions the Caland_x_o1 update in the details but after looking at the final screen showing the “how to update” the version shown on the phone after the update indicates the 1.15.83.Calgary version.
Also about a week ago the contacts that had been transferred from her old phone diappeared. Could the update have happened automatically some how and caused this? Which version should be indicated currently?

First I wished someone smart at best buy would have said hey keep your eris its way better but no I was happy to get a phone with keys. My devour sucks I hate this phone I would never wish this phone on anyone not even my enemies. Instead of giving me a new phone every time I have a problem someone over the phone trys to fix it. I should have taken my phones back cancel my service before my 30 days are up. I don’t like verizon or this stupid phone. Oh I got 2 phones the devour and I got my bf the moto droid I love his phone better than mines. Sigh I miss sprint
