Radio Shack no longer a purveyor of the Palm Pre or Pixi?

Bad news for Palm today as Radio Shack is reportedly dumping its inventory and washing its hands of the Palm Pre and the Pixi. The two webOS handsets have disappeared from Radio Shack’s website and inventory at brick and mortar stores is said to be dwindling. According to CL King analyst Lawrence Harris, Radio Shack retail locations are reportedly limited to quantities on hand with no future shipments expected. Traditionally, Radio Shack has been a strong supplier for Sprint and such a radical withdrawal is bad news for Palm. This unfortunate turn of events is not completely surprising. It was predicted by Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek who wrote, rather prophetically, last month “we believe Palm’s troubles will only accelerate as carriers and suppliers increasingly question the company’s solvency and withdraw their support.” Neither Palm nor Radio Shack have publicly commented on the matter. Guess that means we’ll have to wait with bated breath to see whether Palm manages to survive its latest and most concerning freefall.

100% true. We were recently told to ship our demo unit back to our warehouses, and that we would not be receiving any additional Pre/Pixi units. I was hoping (in vain, I guess) that Sprint would be giving us the Pre/Pixi Plus instead, but naught – nothing new from Palm, which now leaves us with about $400 in Palm accessories that shall forever sit unsold on my shelves.

RadioShack has been having some serious issues keeping my store well stocked on Sprint phones. Pretty much whenever we get a new shipment of smartphones we clear them out.

    Wow…must be a slow news day…

Reason why? They had close to a 70% return rate at their retail locations and kiosks.

well since all the facts are not on the table, radio shak as well as sprint stores will no longer recieve shipments of the pre or pixi, due to a new version of a Palm Web OS phone that will launch on sprint later this year. It has nothing to do with Palm dieing as a company, or radio shak or any one else not wanting to push the phones. As stated our insider will release a video of the Palm C40 within the next few weeks boasting a 1ghz processor, a larger screen and a slider keyboard. That is confermed and so that doesnt seem like a company folding does it.

I just feel bad for RadioShack, they’ve tried to cater to a niche market by selling hard to find (typically small) electronics parts.

Since the turn of the millennium, RadioShack hasn’t been doing that well. Sucks they’re having issues with the Palms.

R.I.P. Palm, may you rise from the ashes and into prosperity as a subdivision of HTC Corp…

Since RS itself is borderline, it doesn’t want to be dragging any more dead-weight.

The Pre and Pixi are end of life.. RS will carry Sprint’s refresh of the devices.

  • Sprinter

    Radio Shack still exists?

the demo unit we had actually worked better than the actual palms we sold to customers, i stopped pushing them to customers because so many were coming back with issues. dead earpice, touchscreen failure, battery failures, were the most common problems. verizon sure is gonna have fun with their palm pluses!

  • cameron miller

I work at radio shack and we quit caryying them a while ago. Pre’s and pixis are pointless. Moments and heros are way better. Plus palms got returned ALOT. I cant tell u how many palm swaps ive done for moments and heros
