iPad Wi-Fi + 3G now shipping by May 7th

ipad-3g-release

This morning Apple quietly updated its website to reflect a change in the ship date for the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. Previously listed as shipping in late April, the Apple is now saying the tablet will ship by May 7th. With thoughts of the international iPad delay in the back of our minds, we were really hoping that the new date applies only to orders placed today onwards, and thankfully it does. Apple sent out emails to customers who preordered an iPad 3G and stated that those units would still be delivered in late April.

Thanks, Brendan!

I didn’t get that email, and my pre-order was placed almost a month ago.

    • eloscurosecreto

Just got the email 5 minutes ago. Wow, someone disliked my comment?? lol…

  • Nico

My email actually read that it would be SHIPPED in late April, not delivered by then. Hope it does though!

I really do get y the ipad is missing usb connection, camera and phone capability. All technology is there in place already, is apple just trying to maximise their profits by releasing those features in all of those subsequent versions ? As additional features ? Common apple !!

I am really shocked just how badly the iPad bombed in sales. It did have the disastrous unveiling where the entire Net was laughing at the device but I would have thought that there were still enough hardcore Apple fans to make the device a minor success.

Instead the iPad has turned out to be just another AppleTV style marketplace failure.

Even the pro-Apple people in the press appear to have run out of ideas of how to keep the device in daily news stories.

The poor sales of the iPad most likely mean that the much anticipated AAPL marketcap > MSFT marketcap isn’t going to happen this year. That would have been fun to see happen.

There really isn’t anything to sustain iPad sales after the small number of Apple Hipsters bought it the first week.

There’s no reason to go out and buy the piece of junk other than you think it’s going to be the new hip item everyone wants. It sucks as an e-reader with its eye killing LCD screen. It sucks as a general computing device due to it being locked down by Apple.

The iPad really is a turd of a product.

      • Goona

Stupid fools, so 500 000 in its first week is a failure. Damn they need to do some IQ checks on some of these morons.

      • Tdot34

500,000 in the first week is very impressive… but what have sales been like since? did they sell another 500,000 in week 2 and 3? It is the long term sales that will determine how successful the iPad is.

      • Goona

Why don’t you go ask them, or you want them to release a weekly sales update to make you happy.

      • Cold Dead Fingers

You don’t know what it’s like as an ereader because YOU DON’T HAVE ONE. I don’t get how you fuckers can talk as if you know how it’ll be. I have the fucking iPad and it doesn’t hurt one’s eyes at all, and I usually read really late. Why do I bother with morons like you is still a mystery to me.

    • eloscurosecreto

Where are you getting your figures from?

    • Cold Dead Fingers

Bombed……..in sales? Apple is selling more iPad than they can make, lololololololololol. Apple even said they were expecting more sales of the 3G version. And btw, the first iPhone sold 1.05 million units in 3 months and look where it is now a little over 50 million sold. The iPad will sell 1 million in two months so imagine where it’ll be in a couple of years.

  • http://Preorder Josh

I pre-ordered the iPad also in early April and I didn’t get that email. Hope mine is still delivered by the end of this month!

  • Tay

Sales seem pretty good to me and the 3G version isn’t even out yet so I don’t know what failure he is talking about but anyway I hope mine still gets shipped on schedule. I’m about to check my email.

    I got the email:

    To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Thank you for your recent order of the magical and revolutionary iPad 3G.

We would like to confirm that your order will be shipped in late April as communicated at the time you placed your order. You will receive a confirmation notice when your order has shipped.

You can get up-to-date information about your order, including shipping status and tracking number, at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus

    Thank you for choosing Apple.

    Sincerely,
    The Apple Store Team

  • DJB

We preordered ours as well and we also did not get an email saying it had been delayed.

Perhaps due to demand Apple is doing a staged rollout, much like they did with the WiFi-only iPad.

  • McHale

WHEW! I was afraid there would have to be a negative Apple posting if the people who pre-ordered had to wait! CRISIS AVERTED! The world can now breathe a sigh of relief and move on.

  • Dirk

Can anyone confirm if the 3G is open for use with any provider, i.e. not locked to a country / territory? Suppose I would buy a 3G iPad when on holiday in the US, can I then use it in any country with any telco where I sign up for a data subscribtion?

    • munir

the ipad is an unlocked device, meaning you can use it with any gsm carrier. HOWEVER, the ipad only accepts microsim cards, meaning a standard sim will not work. if your carrier does not sell/support microsims, you’re out of luck.

I got a bit worried when I heard about these emails from Apple, and I hadn’t gotten one (i placed my order 3/15). It looks at though Apple only sent the emails to the people who placed the orders recently, to reassure them that they made it before the deadline for ‘late april’ orders.

I checked my order status on apples website and it still reads Late April. Also, the shipping method has been upgrade to “priority”.

  • StevenGlansburg

Anyone know when it’s going to be available on Verizon’s 3G? Did someone say NEVER?

  • Theonick

Really Fan-boys makes this world go around ! IPAD = HUGE IPOD TOUCH, noting new, noting that will replace a laptop within that same price range that as more capability, apples needs to stop marketing rubbish making it seem as a world changing event.

    • eloscurosecreto

You know, you don’t have to buy the “rubbish”.

How can you make something seem as a world changing event?

    • modano

Great plan. When they release a new product, they should run some ads like “hey, here’s something that’s a real piece of trash. It sucks and it’s nothing new. We got this idea from someone who can’t type out a single sentence without a spelling error.”
      You’re really onto something here.

    • Cold Dead Fingers

Ya I know huh? It’s just a giant iPod touch!!! They should’ve added like a more powerful GPU and CPU or something or at least add something like a 3G option or a HD screen of some sort! iPad sucks cus it’s the iPod same resolution stretched on a 10″ screen!!!

Get a life loser. You obviously have no intentions of making a purchase of the iPad, so get the fuck off of iPad videos, seriously.

  • Azlum

I didn’t get an email about mine and I ordered over a month ago. No worries though, Apple is pretty reliable.

To all the haters in here… you guys are TWICE as pathetic as the fanboys. :D

    • eloscurosecreto

I finally got it, it looks like they responded to individually to pre-orders. Wow.

  • Elway7

Iphone-video calling, Ipad, if you think at&t,s network was overloaded before, just wait.

  • Gregory

Just for my email about 5 minutes ago. I was getting worried though- I ordered the 32gb version on march 12th but yesterday I cancelled it and reordered the 64gb version. But I’m very reassured now with the email!

World changing hmm maybe the ipad will not bring world peace but you can’t denie it is going to change things the iPhones apps plus the new ones for the ipad and instant on with wifi +3g I can remote into my pc from anywhere I can carry it from office to office like a sheet of paper and have access to my info and if it isn’t a world changer let’s call it a trend setter then because if it wasn’t then why is it that hp is releasing a slate pc and numerous other companies are producing the sane form factor as the ipad? All I can say is if you can’t see the possabilities brought forth then try looking farther than your nose and think he’ll yeah now we are getting someplace cause I know I hate flipping open my laptop or netbook for that matter and waiting to boot up just to view a document or look up a simple search…. I mean come on think man, think!!!!!!!!

  • jonathan

No, way it’s bombed. You can’ find one anywhere. They are all on backorder. I think that defines a successful launch. imagine 2 years from now when the Ipad matures more.

One wonders how much profit Apple makes on making their storage non-removable.

    Example:
    $49.95
The cost of 16GB Kingston MicroSD at reputable retailer. One unit. One person.

    Apple charges:
$100 extra for moving from 16GB to 32GB (a gain of 16GB). They order millions.

Then another $100 to jump from 32 to 64 GB (a gain of $32GB). Better value, but still, that’s not saying much.

Add to that the non-removable battery…

  • Rob

Are you trying to say that apple should not make a profit now hmm years of research and development countless man hours and yet you want them to make what 30 bucks on it look at house mortgages or car notes or better yet if you want to look into a companies finances look at walmart they tell suppliers what they will pay they put mom and pop business out of business!!! But yet you complaint is that apple is making a few hundred dollars profit on an ipad, maybe you should look into how much it actually costs to make that car your driving and then look at how much your finance company is charging you to finance it, and let’s not forget a car is a have to have while the ipad is a like to have, really are we going to complain about the coolest device ever because the company is making profit, how about we complain about how they meaning apple will not support flash! Whatever sheesh the thought process of some posts is unbelievable! Stop drinking your local water cause it isn’t helping you!

    • user

      Rob,
      I ride to work.
      I don’t need finance.
      I don’t have a mortgage.

Now back to that phat profit on non-removables.

Which wasn’t a complaint (since I not only don’t want it, I don’t have any compulsion to buy iPad whatsoever).

You are welcome to over-react and extrapolate my comments to your life and the companies you do business with any time, though.
