Sprint's 4G Case for iPad: the ultimate accessory

How can you not love Sprint when it pulls stunts like this? Following up on its 4G iPhone commercial, the Now Network has absolutely outdone itself with the introduction of the Sprint 4G Case for iPad. That’s right… the Sprint 4G Case for the freakin’ iPad. Available for free at Best Buy with the purchase of a Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot, the case — which technically is a folio plus removable zip-up sleeve — will not only afford your iPad a lot more protection than Apple’s craptastic iPad case, but also give you significant amounts of geek cred. And life’s all about the geek cred, right? Respects.

It’s not true that Sprint only hires blacks. They hired a friend of mine who is Filipina. She works in a retail store.

If there are a lot of blacks there it’s probably because they just like to work for them. No big deal unless the store is in Beverly Hills or some other classy place.

  • Patrick Moto Droid

Do it Sprint. Steal AT&T’s thunder with your mobile 4g Hotspot. Take it while you can get it.

  • Micah

I don’t like Sprint, Verizon or AT&T. They all suck.

Sprint just has the worst CS and in store support which doesn’t bode well for them.

Sure they’ve improved, but they’re still bad. It’s like being 10 feet underwater and swimming up 6 feet. Sure you’re getting there, but you’re still underwater and drowning.

I’d buy a case like this if it didn’t have the Sprint logo. Nothing about the Sprint brand makes we want to buy it.

    • StevenGlansburg

In all fairness, their customer service in my very brief time with them was great. I can’t compare it to years ago like some of are much less nostalgic about, but they met my expectations. When I contacted them I got through to a live person right away and they were English speaking Americans that resolved my issues to the best of their ability.

I don’t really know what many of you expect from customer service people. Some of you must call them daily and expect indepth personal counseling. What else can they do for you?

    • racster

Why is this comment so disliked? He is just expressing his opinion. He only speaks the truth. Are you guys all sprint fans?

  • betchplz

I don’t see the catch here. This 4G device is usable to less than a 4th of Sprint customers and even less of the general public. It’s a failure for them to be pushing this thing so hard and wasting time on it when nearly no one has 4G in their city. They couldn’t even afford a real iPad for the pics.

    • DrPepper

Agreed, people are really fooled by this whole 4g roll out. Its in 24 markets, and thin . it just a little bigger then when cingular launched 3g. 3/4 of sprint will only have 3g.

    • Bash2cool

uh…cause its also a 3g hotspot as well so if you don’t have 4g, you got 3g.

    • racster

It’s just like ATT 3G. It is faster than ATT 3G though, they did get that part right. Just like Verizon with their advertising, they did it right, now Sprint is handing it to them to. It might not be telling the whole truth but it is working. Will ATT sue SPRINT? What’s next Cricket taking jabs at ATT?

    • betchplz

uhhhh if you want a 3G hotspot, why are you wasting money on Sprint? Verizon? Ever heard of them? Even so they clearly push the “4G HOTSPOT” part of the overdrive and don’t even mention 3G. Maybe you missed that but it’s what I was talking about.

      Bash2cool=failure.

      • Bash2cool

Verizon = insanely expensive for the same service you’ll get on Sprint. They don’t advertise the 3g because like you said, they clearly push the 4g hotspot and is thus the point of their ads.

  • Pierre LeMans

That sprint ipad purse is bigger than the ipad. What’s it called “Le Douche Fagbag”?

    • Charlie Tanner

What, you expect the iPad to be larger than the case? That’d just be retarded. No seriously. Think about that for a second. How would it fit in? Are you planning on breaking the laws of physics? Thinking about shrinking your iPad? No. Of course the case will be bigger than the iPad. That’s stupendously obvious.

    • jaymax

@Pierre. One should be able to make their point without resorting to childish (and bigoted) name calling. Grow up.

  • AaronB

Ipad. A way faster way to go over 5gb with 4G from sprint. Lame!

    • rcmadiax

      your an ass

    • Maureen from the Valley

Don’t even bother. These tech boards have become infiltrated with retail employees who will do nothing but blindly defend their low paying employers who really don’t give a $#iT about them.

Sprint can keep on doing extremely bad from all angles and their employees will still see the silver lining in the clouds.

That’s what happens when you hire a bunch of ghetto employees from the hood and the reason for a terrible CS reputation.

    • Homer

4G is unlimited actually… do some research

  • MarkJ

I got to tell you guys, get a life! Sprint is doing an outstanding job of fighting back agan’st the BIG two. This is just a clever way to advertise that they have the fastest network 3g or 4g. BTW if you disagree with the fastest thing. That info comes strait from BGR.

    • Micah

Not really. Sprint’s first WiMax rollout technically doesn’t meet real 4G requirements and there is no simultaneous voice/data.

Sprint and Verizon are technically lying about having 4G. It just sounds good from a marketing perspective. That, and there are 3G networks in the world with faster speeds than their supposed or planned 4G networks.

    • racster

while what you say is true why not fight back at the BIG two by improving the customer service.

  • Supersonicly 4G :]

actually with Sprint 4G is unlimited, soo yeahh you look dumb…

  • http://(null) caediackid3302

I like this. Somebody in their marketing department is very creative. Well done!

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

  • rcmadiax

If I were to place bets on whether Sprint or Verizon would get an Apple product just based on marketing I’d vote for Sprint. Verizon with their Droid ads bashing the iPhone, where as Sprint is taking the friendly road.

  • Nate

Yepper, 4G is unlimited, so maybe you should do 30 seconds of research before you make snarky comments like that.

Way to go, Sprint. This is actually quite clever. And this is coming from a lifetime Verizon customer.

    • George

Oh come on Nate. You are another Sprint employee pretending to be an interested Verizon customer. Sad really.

  • AaronB

Yep you guys are right my bad. WOW you sure take this stuff way too seriously.

    • D

You took the words right out of my mouth.

This is both the employee and customer base of Sprint. Combined, they create the lowest form of humanoid on the planet.

Sad really. Just go into any Sprint retail store and you’ll see what I mean. It’s the same as these boards.

  • LICKMYASS

have fun with the 4g in the three cities its available in homos! suck it

    • DODGERFAN

yup, nothing smarter to say…stick to replying to VERIZON post…

  • LICKMYASS

rcmadiax is a tool! i think i just heard his mom call him to have his bottle

  • cellphone guy

Sprint 4g is 10x faster than CDMA 3g….. 6mbps is not 10x faster than HSPA+ which At&t runs 3.6mbps and T-Mo is launching 21mbps. Sprint is not thinking about their sslogans very hard…..

    • mememe

3.6 and 21mbps are peak speeds… 4g peak speeds are more than 10mbps.

    • Micah

No. 6 Mbps is not faster than HSPA +. You are thinking about HSDPA 3.6

HSPA is generally capable of speeds near 7.2 Mbps

HSPA + is well well beyond that as we’ve seen carriers implementing speeds near 56 Mbps

But seriously, nobody really needs these speeds for everyday use on a phone or portable modem nor will we actually ever realize them for the most part.

Mostly marketing bullshit and in Sprint’s case they are trying to stem the terrible terrible customer losses they have continued to incur over the past 4 years.

      • mememe

I wasn’t trying to point out which is faster- I was just pointing out that if someone is going to compare network speeds it is only fair to use either all average speeds or all peak speeds. Not peak for two carriers and then average for the third.

And you’re right about the speeds being faster than anyone can really use. Cell phone hardware is far from capable of taking advantage of 21 Mbps. It’s still nice to have though and should help clear some congestion.

    • Jeanette

Yes I forgot. I’d much rather have T-Mo’s HSPA + network over Sprints closed down no simultaneous voice/data dead end network.

Sprint will have no roaming partners because they chose to go with a proprietary standard again.

I hope they get bought out and spit out into pieces. Get rid of all the less than desirable employees that sag their pants in the stores and give the spectrum to a better company.

      • mememe

        Jeanette,

Wimax can pretty easily and cheaply be converted to LTE if Sprint decides to do so. (Hesse has already publicly stated that he is considering it.) Also, Sprint will have a roaming partner in Verizon for voice and 3g regardless.

      • betchplz

Sprint is 1X roaming when you’re on Verizon and they give you a whopping 300mb.

  • DODGERFAN

Sprint is so confident in their 4g, they are untouched by also promoting the ipad….maybe iphone should come to sprint instead of VERIZON ??

  • Brandon

I love it. There are so many Sprint employees on this board because in real life no real Sprint customer would defend such a terrible and pathetic company.

Same Sprint employees who thought Sprint would eclipse Verizon years ago when Sprint supposedly entered into a merger of equals with Nextel.

Dead end technologies, poor management, ghetto employees, disgusting customer service, poor B2B post sales support and the worst business decisions ever have brought Sprint to where they are today and the reason for their continual decline.

But employees: Go ahead and tell us how everything is really rosy.

    • Sprint User

I’ve had Sprint SERO for two years, recently added another line and will likely add a third line soon. And I like voice clarity of CDMA over that of GSM, despite not having the ability to browse web while I’m on hold. I have a $10/month unlimited VOIP line and a laptop for that. I really like them as a company and I got nothing bad to say about them. The third line I was talking about will be moved away from T-Mobile, which used to have all of my business, but their freaky price policy doesn’t make any sense to me any longer.

    • mememe

And I suppose you would be a Verizon employee bashing the competition?

Seriously, why all the hate? Sprint is just a phone company… you act like they skinned your puppy.

    • Joe

Sprint is pathetic because they are trying to get themselves on their feet again, and they being innovative???

Verizon is the actually the most pathetic…. creating an entire advertising campaign around bashing AT&T like a coward, with an all red map where the majority may have service, but mostly BAD service. Then deciding to enforce double ETF’s on smartphones and mandatory data plans and their smug knowledge-less employees lie to their customers and saying “oh it’s an industry decision, everyone is doing it.” Verizon takes advantage of their customers knowing that most are too naive to know any better and will just pay for anything Verizon charges them for. As if they weren’t already the most expensive carrier in the nation, they continue to think of new ways to rip off their customers even more. Now THAT is pathetic…

  • betchplz

I can’t believe the amount of people drooling over WiMAX, a service they either don’t have in their city or have never used before.. I’ve used it, it blows hard /if/ you can maintain a steady signal. In a moving car with WiMAX?

I’m sorry but you should either by a Verizon MiFi for this or an AT&T 3G version. Sprint needs to get a clue. Their “4G” is not all that they and their fanboys crack it up to be and that will become apparent when people pick up the Evo 4G and can’t pick up and keep a WiMAX signal to save their lives!

    • Bash2cool

Obviously, either you NEVER owned one and is just saying you are or live right on the edge of the 4g spectrum therefore, causing unsteady signal……i agree more with the former.

      • betchplz

“On the edge of 4G spectrum”? Do you even know what you’re talking about? They claim to only be using 30mhz currently and that has nothing to do with the signal

WiMAX has sad signal strength that results in moving dropouts and poor signals everywhere. It has nothing to do with “on the end of 4G spectrum”

  • http://www.mayhemstudios.com mayhemstudios

I went to Bestbuy tonight. They didn’t seem to know anything about this ipad case.

    • burton1976

@mayhemstudios – because if you looked at the website promotig it, you’d see that it’s only in 4G markets.

  • julie

the comment about Sprint hiring only blacks is so inacute. im in boston and I walk into several different sprint stores and there are many different cultures that work there. so please stop the bull@#$^ about Sprint.

  • http://grrargh.com seriously

upto 4x faster than 3g. right. and my bike is up to 10x faster than your car. if you happen to drive 3mph.

“3g”, as a term, has been poisoned by verizon and now sprint too, never mind the poisoning sprint is doing to the term “4g”. 3g data is not fast – it’s only marginally faster than EDGE (aka 2.5g). it ENABLES protocols like HSDPA, which ARE FAST. in fact, tmobile currently supports 7.2megabit HSDPA. they’re rolling out 21megabit as we speak (estimated to be complete before end of 2010). sprint hopes to hit 10megabit with their so-called 4g service. what’s the big deal?

right now, using a nokia n900, between 1/4 and 1/2 of tmobile users can get over 6megabit download speeds and over 2megabit upload speeds. that’s today, they’re rolling out the 21mbps stuff everywhere (even where they hadn’t gotten around to the 7.2 stuff yet).

so, when that happens, tmobile will be ACTUALLY twice as fast as sprint HOPES to be – and their ads claim 10x faster. yay for marketeers!
