Google adds drag and drop file attachment and Google Calendar invitation to Gmail

Gmail users get excited as Google has added two new features to Gmail that will make your emailing life a little bit easier. First and foremost is a new drag and drop ability that allows you to drag a document from your favorite file explorer and drop it on your email to add an attachment. No convoluted steps, no browsing for files, just a basic drag and drop which is so simple, it is genius and we can’t believe we’ve lived without it all this time. Next up is a new calendaring feature that allows you to send a Google calendar invitation directly within Gmail. Not only can you compose the invitation within Gmail, the feature allows you to see your invitee’s calendar so you can select the optimal time for your event. Once the invitation is sent, the event is added to both your and your recipient’s Google calendar. Sweet.

“There is not so much difference betweenthe ideologies of capitalism and communism, you know. The difference is simple. Capitalism is the exploitation of man by man, and communism is the reverse.” – John Gardner, The Man From Barbarossa

Wow your professor really opened up you eyes in just one semester off at college.
How long have you been waiting to drop that gem?
Maybe the new googlement will be completely different with the exploitation of man by machine.
        J/k love google

    And what about Linux support???

    • Christopher Cox

@Dawgwood: It works in Linux perfectly. I run Ubuntu 10.04.

      • German Rumm

Yeah, works in Ubuntu 9.10 also

Looking forward to seeing it in action – still not active on my account, I guess.

Not a big deal for me, but I know about a dozen neophytes who are going to have an orgasm when they hear this. lol.

Wow, they’ve implemented features that have been around for 15+ years in all mail and calendar clients, and it’s “genius”??

I mean sure its great for a webapp, but not exactly revolutionary.

    • nowhere does it state revolutionary (that would be a patent infringement).

and it is pretty impressive that it is being done without some os client.

so take your negative nancy ass somewhere else

    • Christopher Cox

@Ryan G: Wow your genius. Gmail is a web based email client. Much like yahoo, hotmail, or any number of countless web email clients. Gmail is the first one I have seen with drag and drop support for extensions. I really don’t use full featured email programs except for work reasons (Outlook). So yeah … since I am a heavy email user, like a lot of people here, this is a big deal. Unless you can show me where web email clients have been doing this for 15+ years, the editor who posted this is right. This kind of thing wasn’t even possible unless you had a plugin to install or are using Internet Explorer crap ActiveX.
