Is the mysterious squared Motorola Android slider, the Twist?

General

What you see above might just be the entire spec sheet for that mysterious Android slider from Motorola we caught a glimpse of the other day. Allegedly known as the Twist, the strange smartphone is said to measure in at 67mm-squared and 15.8mm thick, and possess a rather underwhelming feature set which includes a 2.8″ QVGA multitouch display, 3 megapixel camera, aGPS, Wi-Fi, dual-band HSPA (850/1900MHz), 700MHz OMAP 3410 processor and 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM. The slide mentions the Twist as running Android 1.5, so unless the information is badly outdated, it looks like those rumors of the device running Android 2.1 in conjunction with MOTOBLUR were wishful thinking. That is if any of this is even real.

Is it me or do half those specs sound better than my g1′s?

This is the real iPhone killer

    • DrPepper

Why doe,s everyone think that every phone made is suppossed to be high end,, most of the market is midrange.. not every phone is meant to be an iphone killer. there are lots of people just looking for a good phone.

    • pat

yeah this 2.8 inch screen will kill the iphone, don’t try to hard to detect my sarcasm.

  • Gia

It just may be the killer, but the iPhone is bliss. To bad chatty Steve doesn’t listen to consumers and make a deal with VZW. It’s a win, win situation for both companies.

Then again nothing can kill the iPhone!!!!!!

    Ignorance is bliss.
There will neverbea iPhone killer and its getting old using this term anymore. Until a OS an phone can innovate and have unbelievable marketing behind it its gonna be hard prying what’s become the most mainstream device out there for Joe average.

Sounds to me that if this is the twist, it could be a response to the Microsoft Kin phones. It has the similar square look and the page says “Networking with a Twist” which seems to sound like they focus on social networking, like the Kin phones will.

I don’t think anyone is worried about the whole Kin project actually taking any of their market share, but I’d think Moto figures they might as well drop something similar to compete anyway.

It was just a joke. Nothing will ever kill the iPhone. 3 years now and worldwide dominance. Unlimited marketing budget and Apple dictates what their vendors and suppliers and carriers can do because of their size. Barring some long shot screw up, the iPhone will continue its dominance for the rest of our lives.

the rest of our lives? Sure, if you area already like 90 years old.

Personally I plan on being around for awhile yet and no technology dominates for very long.

    Can anyone say AT&T??

  • Jack Tee

AT&T has not been nearly as bad as its made out to be and they are only the US carrier. Even in NY, where the reception issues are well known and true, people still use the iPhone more than any other. Go to a Friday happy hour in Bryant Park this spring, thousands of iPhone users. Why do they put up with it? Cool factor first and no need for a good phone, texting reigns supreme.

How is it that no one has replied that they don’t understand how anyone had yet to mention the Nokia Twist?

Because it is an utterly forgettable phone?

  • Nick

As long as this phone doesn’t land on AT&T…God knows they’ll rip its soul out like they did the Backflip.

  • Mooch

Android 1.5 and a slow processer? T-mobile will take it!

  • Jason

The specs are lackluster, so this phone must be headed for T-Mobile.

This device is not for the nerds that read this site. It’s for your sister’s high school kids that are cooler than you. To be a 30 year old man and compare this phone to the iphone is like comparing spunge bob to family guy. Its two different markets and if don’t understand that then you are an idiot.
