what a fkn joke, seriously I’m happy my next phone is not going to be for Mapple, too much sh*t for really too much pain, besides and for what I see the Mapple based multitask switch feature is bad, takes away the switch from phone to mp3 (double click the home button) http://www.electronicswholesaledistributor.com/

When you get a real fucking job and can afford an iPhone….let us know…..now go back to your Palm Pixi and shut up queer!

  • Steven L. Jobs

    Attention all sheep:

My flock, you must ignore these miserable haters and celebrate your magical, revolutionary device for what it is: spawn of the faker OS. You see, you may feel confident in the knowledge that without my revolutionary OS, there would be no Android or webOS as you see them today. The faker heretics have stolen all of my revolutionary ideas and perhaps improved on them and offered more and better features but rest assured – were it not for you, my flock, adopting and promoting my magical device, they would not exist at all.

    That is all.

    Sincerely,
    Your dear leader, Steve-o

    • DMG

Thank you wise one. God, without leaders like you how would we survive in the world. I’m a cell phone sheep! How will I live with myself. Get a life loser.

    • http://www.apple.com Steven Paul Jobs

This man is an imposter! I am the real Steve; my middle name is Paul.

    • nefan65

LOL..That’s funny. Based on that, I’m definitely running to the Droid. That’s an awesome device. I love the cheap slide out keyboard, that’s almost unusable. The freezes and lockups on them are cool too. But it does multitask. I definitely need that in a phone. When I’m on a call, I need the ability to play a game with my pimple faced friends….

      • Matthew

Really me too! I was like, the iPhone is so stupid cuss I can’t load a web page and type a txt mssg at the same time :( that one feature means the iPhone is lame.never mind the most clean and fastest OS and the 150,000 applications that are of better quality than others

      • Landon Gonsalves

Its not stupid things like texting and surfing the web…but things like sitting on the train listening to Pandora and wanting to read the New York Times or check your email. All simple things one doesn’t notice until they can’t do it. No one will doubt the greatness that is Iphone OS, but I love my g1..slow, ugly, and fat…but I can and will always be able to “really” multitask…not that faux multitasking apple came up with. If the iphone can stop trying to be pretty and focus on the real issues…I might jump ship…but until then…..viva la android!

      • jawman

dumbass, how about listen to pandora while surfing the net?
        Android > iPhone

  • Baller

How did you get “places” in photos?

I only have the first three, of which “faces” doesnt seem to work!

  • nefan65

HTC Incredible; Incredible POS. Funny how people get excited about something that isn’t even out.

If all you got out of yesterday’s event, then you didn’t watch it, or did and didn’t understand. Not an Apple Fanboy here, but the new OS is giving everyone what they’ve been bitching about; multitasking, unified inbox, folders, wallpapers, more security for enterprise, etc…

If you don’t like Apple, then fine…don’t buy the phone. Go get a Droid, Android, Void, HTC, ABC, or whatever phone you want on Verizon.

    • MikeD

      I totally agree.

Every OS update, Apple adds a slew of APIs to help developers get the apps up and running quickly and the ability to have little impact on the performance of the device and battery life. Thats a good thing.

The incessant berating from especially Android users tells me they really aren’t happy with what they have.

The only way they seem to feel good about their Android device is when they can brag “well you don’t have”

Let me make this clear to Fandroid and Haters alike. People buy iPhones because they actually like the device, the interface and methodology to get tasks done. Its as simple as that. They don’t have to go around waging a personal campaign to destroy websites ambiance because of some emotional issue.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… the more reasonable Android users are being made to look bad by these Fandroid TROLLs.

      • Justin

It has nothing to do with being unhappy with android or the devices. It has little to do with emotional issues. and sorry about your web sites ambiance.

It has to do with the fact that i can’t stand apple. I can’t stand comments like magical and revolutionary, then force feeding their flock of sheep the exact same product in a slightly larger size. It has to do with business practices like getting ridiculously vague patents for concepts (note even products but concepts) they didn’t even actually innovate, then suing any one who got close when they start gaining a little market share. It has to do with claims of innovations for products they didn’t innovate. It has to do with “apple is freedom and is so much better and different than MS as a company” when in fact they are worse, more controlling, completely proprietary, and generally unimpressive as a company beyond their marketing department, and it’s ability to develop droves of mindless fanatics like a cult, willing to commit intellectual suicide for the apple cause, ignoring all facts like religious zealots.

The iphone isn’t a bad device. A lot of people like it. (I could never personally live with it as my main phone) but seriously it is definitely not revolutionary, it’s not magical, it’s not innovative (hasn’t been for about 2 or 3 years now) and 4.0 is a desperate attempt to play catch up to the rest of the smart phone world. Stop trying to blow warm smoke up peoples backsides.

      • MikeD

Its not a desperate attempt. they have been doing a very methodical ramp up every year. Thats why each roll out looks way more polished, than feeling beta like. and developers can quickly adapt

I think you have a hard time separating Geek speak , and consumer speak. To most people it is magical when devices that a short time ago were complex to use and crash prone, have been made very easy and straight forward. MAGICAL is a metaphor not literal.

I bet you have no problem with the term SUPERPHONE right? Same difference huh?

I really think the Apple HATERS need to take a serious look at their own statements and what they cheer on their own sides. I think the reflection will be quite revealing.

It is high time that people stop being emotional and start being reasonable. Also some people posting in these threads need to get a better understanding of business and marketing.

      • A|X

They’ve been doing it very methodically? Really? So, the fact that people have actually demanded certain features have nothing to do with Apple pulling their heads out of their asses and thinking “Gee, maybe we should give it to them!”

And before you start calling anyone haters, know this. This entire “hate Iphone” thing came about because dumbass Iphone-users started acting like Iphone > All, which isn’t true. Take a look at any youtube video on different phones. There’s bound to be at least a few people there who are going to spew this and that about how much that new phone sucks and how much better they think the Iphone is. Iphone users, for the most part, are far more unwilling to respect other platforms than an Android/WM/RIM/Palm user is willing to respect the Iphone. Everybody acknowledges the perks of an Iphone. But, it’s unlikely that you’ll see an Iphone user saying “Oh, hey, I kinda wish I had that feature on my phone!” rather than “So what! We have a hundred thousand APPS!”

The “hate” pendulum swings both ways, kid. And Apple users were the first to get it going.

    • Justin

“the new OS is giving everyone what they’ve been bitching about; multitasking, unified inbox, folders, wallpapers, ”

so… basically what your saying is iphone 4.0 will almost get apple caught up to android for usability… yay apple! I’m sure 4.0 will be innovative and revolutionary… unlike everything else out there.

      • nefan65

Almost? What more does Android do? Oh that’s right, I forgot. People that “think’ they’re techie need an Opensource system in order for it to be super powerful. They need the full customization, and it can’t be locked down. They need the ability to delve into the code; so they can make phone calls, use text messaging, and take a picture. These are the same people that use Windows….that full opensource powerhouse OS.

      • Justin

i’d like the ability to use the extra space on my device as a flash drive … and yeah i link customization instead of being happy with what steve and co feel i should look at. Blue tooth file transfer is awesome if your iphone had it you might appreciate it as well. oh yeah wifi tethering is really nice. And i’m rather fond of being able to install what ever apps i want on my device, not just the ones that meet apples approval.

and i’d rally appreciate not being talked down too like a 5 year old by a marketing monkey like steve jobs telling me how “revolutionary” and “magical” his products are.

oh and i’m a network ops tech for one of the major us carriers. i’m pretty sure i don’t just ‘think’ i’m techie … the simple fact is if i can do it, and i want to do it, i should be able to do it. i’ll pass on what stevie and co think is “good for me”.

      • Adam

Who does not like being able to apply any theme they want to their phone? I use to love my Apple products but now I am more or less bored of them continuously selling the exact same product over and over again for more and more.

    • Elway7

The Iphone is great for some, so is Android, and windows. lots of good phones out there. My beef is with at&t caring only about one of them, and not giving its other customers good choices.

    • jawman

your comment about people getting excited about something taht isn’t even out makes no sense you fucking retard. thats why they get excited, its a new product. did you get excited when the new xbox 360 was revealed? did you get excited when the iphone was being marketed constantly? are you excited for the iphone hd?
how are people supposed to not be excited before something gets released? that’s the whole fucking point! they’re excited for a new product! you fucking dumbass!

  • TomText

Has anyone who has loaded the the software checked to see if they updated Google maps?

  • Unknown

    Hmmmm…..

What a joke even if I wanted to update on this New and Improved O.S. 4.0 I will still be limited because I don’t have the latest and greatest 3GS. Pass!!!!!!!

    • MikeD

      Seriously, relax.

First off, the usual life cycle of a phone is two years. Why? Well the cellular providers usually sign people up for two year commitments at a time. The iPhone and iPhone 3G are 3yrs and 2 yrs old respectively. Usually once you’ve completed your contract the Cell provider offers you the same deep discount for getting a new phone as a new subscriber.

These older iPhones also are not fast enough by todays standard to give the performance of the 3GS.

Now can you multitask one the iPhone and the iPhone 3G? The answer is yes. But its going to take a hit responsiveness. And unlike most other companies Apple will not officially endorse that kind of experience.

      - – - – - – - – -
Multi-tasking can be easily enabled on the iPhone 3G by setting a flag in the capabilities plist, according to a tweet by cdevwill. wow looks like multitasking can be enabled on the 3G if you just set multitasking=TRUE on the capabilities plist in SB (N82AP.plist)
      - – - – - – - -

A perfect example of why this strategy is taken is when the first iPhone and even the 3G came out, they were not going to give the video quality the 3GS does currently. So Apple didn’t offer it to draw attention to sub-par video. Makes sense for any company not to offer mediocre features. But over time quite a few 3rd party apps came out that allowed the older iPhones to capture video with better results than the jail-broken iPhone apps. Its still wasn’t better than the 3GS, but it was acceptable.

So I see possibly 3rd party solutions offer in the iTunes store to give people multitasking. But Apple is not going to officially support a negative impact on your device.

So if your contract is fulfilled, I highly recommend you get the 3GS or of course the latest upcoming iPhone. The irrational rants are actually a waste. All technology gets out dated over time. Its simple as that. look at this simple list I made below:

      June 29, 2007
      The Original iPhone: 412MHz ARM

      October 22, 2008
      Android G1: Qualcomm® MSM7201A™, 528 MHz

      3G: July 11, 2008
      iPhone 3G: 412MHz ARM

      July 28, 2009
Android G2 Qualcomm MSM 7201A 528 MHz processor

      June 19, 2009
      iPhone 3GS: 600MHz ARM chip

      November 6, 2009
Motorola Droid: Arm Cortex A8 600 MHz

      January 5, 2010
Google Nexus One: 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon ARM

      June 2010
the fourth iPhone: rumored multi-core ARM processor

(Note to the idiots thats going to complain i didn’t include their phone in the list, this is a simple list to show how the technology changes)

So what all companies have to do is get max use out of what technology is available. Plus it needs to fit in the life cycle of the wireless providers contract. Meaning the phones need to be relevant for at least 2 YEARS.

People who have money to burn may not care about value and the ability to satiate a person for over two years. But most consumers will hold on to their handsets for the life of the 2 year contract.

      On another note:

What seem to be coming more into focus following these threads on BGR is that Techies are so ridiculously impatient. They can’t ever be satisfied with their choice for more than 3 months. As a result they can’t stop harassing people that don’t share their views.

    • MikeD

One more thing to think about.

The Moto Droid was quickly eclipsed by the Nexus One in the short span of TWO MONTHS. And the crowd that usually gets excited about the Nexus One, sure as hell ain’t sticking with it for two years. They’ll jump on whatever is the next Geek-vogue. Hmmm, sounds familiar to the they buy the iPhone because of some cool factor huh? but I digress. What I am getting at is that they’ll spend on average twice or even three times the money an iPhone use will on hardware in the span of two years.

Maybe, just maybe, Customer satisfaction could also translate in to savings for the consumer. Think about it, A satisfied customer holds on to their device longer. Get it?

  • BlowmyDick

-_-”, A little update, you fanboys are too excited and besides the multitasking is not going to built in to the phone. It’s an app that you would have to run to multitask your dam phone. Btw iPhone was the best but now is overrated and it’s kinda old so get over your iPhones and dammit their a better phones than these paperweights especially with at&t.

  • DJ Megatron

I agree that there will never be a ‘perfect’ device. Why? Becuase the only real ‘perfect’ device is the one that will fit or suit your own personal need(s). I currently have an iPhone 3G, which I like a lot. It does what I need it to, and that is all that matters. Why people feel some rediculous need to put others down because they don’t like the same device as you is beyond me. It all comes to down to what you like and what works best for you. Both the carrier and the phone of your choice.

    • la verdad

No shit. “Think like me, or I’ll bust your nuts anonymously on a blog so that I can feel superior”.
Find what works for you, then keep it to yourself.

  • jonathan

Funny how there is so much ranting and raving about their phones. Whenever I talk to an average consumer iphone or android user about how there is so much apple hate and vice versa, all so they can brag about their phone can do this and that they just laugh and makes us techies look like fools, they are just phones and if you are happy with what you’ve got then there is no need to go to Apple or android posts to trash each other. Apple fans brag about the top selling Iphone, then they become sheep because why in the world would 50 million iphone users like their phones while the challenger android is so much more sophisticated. Get over it people! All of us so called techies are the ones who are idiots for making such a big deal about who has got the best phone. I like the Iphone and android is just as good. While Apple retains the bragging rights, android has a lot of potential and remains an option for us.

    • MikeD

I think you are greatly mistaken. Just use this site as an example, or Engadget or Gizmodo. The vast vile harassing comments are from Apple haters.

Even your comment here I am responding too shows it. You refer to iPhone buyers as sheep.

And the reality is Android devices are not so much more sophisticated. The iPhone is just as sophisticated. Since you refer to average consumers, the better term would be more COMPLICATED.

I think people can love their device, but if their love for their gadget translate in to hateful behavior then something is wrong. Until I see Apple threads with less Trolling, I will always look at the Android crowed in a more negative light.

The proof is in the pudding. Just go into an Android thread and its very much on topic with little attacks levied. Sure there are idiots that enter stupid comments. I totally do not endorse those types. But then come in to a thread regarding Apple or their products and my its out of control with the “-” and all the stupid irrational Apple hate.

So I agree both sides need to take a chill pill and realize its just a device. But understand the reality is your crowd overwhelmingly troll. they troll Blackberry thread, they troll Apple threads, they troll Plam threads. The Android users have made a really bad reputation for themselves on many sites.

      • A|X

So the Iphone, which caters to the young, the old and generally very inept of users is just as sophisticated? As sophisticated as Android, which is generally aimed at people who are looking to do MORE with their phones? uh huh.

And I said this before, so I’ll simply cut/paste..

You think Apple users are innocent of ragging and hating on other devices? Please. Get your facts straight.

      • jonathan

Sorry, got to agree with MikeD on that one. Trolling happens on whatever post, but there are more android trollers on Iphone posts than android’s. This site is a good example and it really doesn’t matter who started it, it may be the apple crowd, but the easiest solution to this is to not go to any apple postings if you hate anything apple. I go to android postings just to stay in the loop on whats going on tech wise, not to trash the device. I actually appreciate the OS and its devices. There is so much trolling on Apple posts that it makes me think that android fans have something to prove by constantly berating Iphone users on the superiority of android. Android is a good option other than Apple, but the fact is that there are approx. 50million Iphone users out there and the android crowd will get bigger too…only time will tell. All the trolling on both sides comes to only a small fraction of the majority , who doesn’t even care about our conversations here. .

      • A|X

If you think there are more Android trolls than there are Apple trolls, you, sir, are not exposed to the net then. Truth is this.. there will always be people who are biased towards their OS. Android, Apple, Palm OS, WM.. everyone. Getting at each others throat is inevitable… however, in Apple’s case, they are especially susceptible to critical remarks because of the way the fans carry themselves. The entire “We’re better because we have 100K apps.” or “We did all of this first! Everyone else is just copying us!” “There will never be an Iphone killer!” and so on. Heck, even the CEO attacks other platforms. Steve Job’s comments are borderline retarded. “If you have to use a stylus, you blew it.” (That’s referencing WM) or “If you have to use a task manager, you blew it! (referencing Android/WM yet completely ignoring the fact that OS 4.0 ALSO uses a task manager to switch between apps). And the sad thing is so many fans buy that crap from him and accept it as their truth. It’s like a damn cult. Taking all of that into consideration, you really think Android users are so bad? Come on.

      • jonathan

Both sides have idiotic comments, all I’m saying is just from observing posts on BGR there are more Android fans bashing and trolling on Apple posts. With regards to why the Ceo of Apple talks like that, hey its human nature when you are on top you can either be humble or showy about it. He chooses being showy, after all there is also the Iphone killer talk its all part of the game. Don’t be fooled either, these big CEO guys know each other well, hell they probably hang out sometimes. If the situations were reversed do you think it will all just be chillin with no business trash talking? Right now, Apple has the bragging rights, until there are more Droid users in a couple of years. I’m not a diehard apple fan, I’ll jump ship to Droid if I thought it would suit me better. I’m actually having a hard time comparing Iphone to many android devices since we are talking about one company, one phone and one OS against Droid, Nexus one and so on….In the end, its to each his/her own.Superior hardware and fancy os does not translate into sales and usage from consumers either. If that is the case, my vote is on Nokia, having used Symbian OS and Nokia hardware for the last 5 years, but look where Nokia is in the US, nobody even mentions them much here, although they are still on top worldwide. I’m not defending Jobs, cause he does too big of a mouth. My point when you are at the helm of a extremely successful company you tend to have diarrhea of the mouth. I have my issues with Apple too with regards to Ebooks being a Kindle user, but I do like their products and still sport an Iphone. I get what I think suits me and not what I hear from some CEO.

      • MikeD

        @A|X

The foolish behavior is on all sides and there are no excuses, but overwhelmingly, the hateful rant are Android, and Apple-haters alike.

        Case closed.

      • jonathan T

I have been on BGR for quite a while now and I do agree most of the trolling and rants are from the Android crowd on just about all Apple post more than Apple fans on their own posting.

      • jawman

gonna 100% definitely have to agree with A|X on this one. the man speaks solid truth. +++

  • zbarv

Apple nailed the multitasking. While it isn’t “true” multitasking, it allows for some key processes to run in the background, while quickly saving the state of applications for quick reentry. The end user will never be able to tell the difference, and by doing so, they lose almost no battery life or performance.

While this update was just incremental, it added some nice elements that should enhance the user experience.

Despite all the haters out there, nobody can argue that Apple implements their ideas in an unparalleled fashion. No company can beat the fluidity, elegance, and ease of use of iPhone OS.

    • A|X

You evidently never used an Android device then. (esp. with Sense Ui) Or Web OS. Or have seen the videos of WP7. All of those at least match Iphone’s fluidity.

And the battery life or performance argument really isn’t that applicable. I run an HTC TP2 (which is a weaker device w/an OS that isn’t as fluid) and I have multiple apps running at a time, and the performance is still very good. At the end of the day, I charge overnight, but that’s pretty much what any smartphone user does. So, the entire “It drains battery life too quickly” doesn’t hold much water because chances are, it’ll be charged up and ready to go the next morning.

      • zbarv

I’ve played with the Droid and several other Android devices, as well as seen the demo videos of Windows Phone 7, and also used web os. Now let me ask you, have you used an iPhone 3GS? The smooth transitions are unparalleled. Also, multitouch is unassailable on the iPhone, as well as the responsiveness of the screen. You do realize that there are reasons for people flocking to Apple’s phone right? The OS is meticulously crafted and polished, and the App Store is fantastic, not to mention the easy sync with iTunes. Apple understands what consumers want, and they capitalize on it. They just “get it”. They realize that the experience and design is often more important than some less-than-frequently used functions. Although I’m very fond of WebOS’s way to multitask, it still consumes unnecessary resources. To be frank I am not a fan of Sense UI because it is hogs the RAM and is not even near as fluid or elegantly clean as the iPhone OS.

I’m not an Apple fanboy, but I have much respect for Apple; they just “get it”.

      • jawman

and you, like so many others,”just don’t get it”

  • Hi

This makes me sad that people think that it’s only a background when this just apple taking everthing a jailbroken Ithouch could do but did it better which is a good thing. First of better multitasking than backgrounder, and probably things will run smoother and not crash

You know I read trhese articles and i just cant believe the crap i read it makes me laugh that so many people hate on the iphone and its os updates they done the same thing to os 3.0 3.1 3.2 i mean seriously i use to be a hard core apple hater and would bash everything about it or anyone who liked it but you know i realized that yeah i am a windows os fan but i gave the iphone a chance and im soory but my opinion was changed because i gave it a chance i wonder how many of you iphone haters have actually given it a chance im going to say you cant still from apple and say there devices are junk because there not theyve sold a crap ton of there phones starting with iphone iphone 3g and iphone 3gs and theve sold a crap load of ipads apple corp is smart they make smart products its a fact im not a apple fanboy but i respect a great product when i see it finally i use to not i like android to it has its own benefits but its not for me windows phones great cant wait for windows phone 7 in december blackberry theyve done great with there products palm great last but effort with the pre and pixi pre plusa and pixi plus sad there selling out but maybe there buyer will make something amazing i like all os’s in there own way have unique features but the iphone does have the most simple hands down easiest os to use and you cant compare to there app store which i use to hate on but now realise is awsome and there not all usless apps as i use to say and im probally going to get the iphone 4 when it releases in june bottom line is that iphone 4.0 will be good and add things needed but for people who bash other os’s heres an idea until you can make one yourself dont bash it thank you

the web OS platform is the best platform. Even better then the android platform. The performance on the web os is just to fanominal. It rocks. The multi tasking on the web os is just so effortless. The iphone os sucks still and is still going to be playing catch up even with this new os 4.0! And the same thing with the android platform.

How can you Multitask If you have Only one button. Do you see another button to switch between applications. Dose it have flash probably not. So I can really see all the web sites I want so what’s the point. Yes, I have seen It in action. Old free apps you had are all gone
