Digitimes Research reports smaller iPad due out next year?

If you thought all of those iPhone nano rumors were bad, and absolutely dreaded every single article about the iPad before it was unveiled by Apple, you’re really not going enjoy this rumor out of Taiwan. According to Digitimes Research analyst Mingchi Kuo’s “upstream component sources”, Q1 2011 will see Apple introduce a newer, smaller model of the iPad. The new iPad will be marketed towards people who want an ultraportable tablet with e-reader and web browsing capabilities but not necessarily all of the features of the full-blown iPad. The device is expected to feature a display in the neighbourhood of 5″ to 7″ and retail for $400 USD.

Geez, does Apple think we’re all made of money?

    Watching people flock to these featureless shams that have the audacity to be referred to as tablet pc’s has caused me to lose my faith in humanity. You mean I can pay more for a device with 1/3 the features and functionality of a netbook or notebook, 1/5th- 1/16th the amount of memory depending on which Icrap you decide to blow your money on, and on top of that it’ll be the best web experience ever despite the fact it doesn’t support flash meaning I can only actually view like 70% of the web. What a DEAL! The Ipad has truly lived up to the Quote from Steve Jobs that is on Apple.com right now, “A Magical and Revolutionary device at an unbelievable price.”

      Look, yeah it sucks that they decided to use the ipod touch OS on it instead of its own, but the ipad is meant to try and take over kindle sales obviously, its an E-Reader 1st with some added features.

      not everyone wants to read a book on an ipod touch 3″ screen. or lug around books when they can have them in digital formats.

      and not everyone owns an ipod , most people can use there smartphones as a music device.

        It is NOT an ereader first in the way that the Kindle is. The Kindle’s technology if quite different (which I am sure you already know) and it is a stand-alone device. 9 times out of 10, a stand-alone device will beat the crap out of a multi-purpose all day long.

When was the last time you saw a complete stranger on the street using a netbook and felt compelled to invade her personal bubble and ask to play with her pad…

    I dogged the iPad before it launched. I still don’t really see myself laying out the cash for one because I really don’t NEED it. A coworker got one though and I have to say it actually is a pretty cool little contraption. If I didn’t have kids/wife/house to take care of I’d possibly get one.

    However, I REALLY do not see why you would want a smaller one. The iPad kind of filled a gap between iPod touch and a Mac, but why the hell would I pay only about $100 less to have a tiny iPad? I don’t get it.

If you don’t like what Apple is doing then shut up, no one is forcing any of you dumbtrucks to buy it. There will be many people who will love the iPad, many others would something else like yourselves, so if iPad lovers are stupid to go out and buy something they find appealing, then so are you….I’m just saying!!!!

    I actually like this idea. The Mini pad appeals to me a lot more than the ipad does. I never wanted a kindle because I didn’t want to carry it around with me and I’m not about to start carrying a murse, but i got a small sony e-reader as a xmas gift and I always have it with me. Capability of fitting into a jacket pocket is a feature that cannot be underestimated. No way will I buy an ipad, but this thing will make me think about it.

    I’m more likely to get this than the current iPad. My big problem is where to put the damn thing.

    I saw the iPad at the 5th ave store, its not HUGE but its not pocketable and thats the problem.

    I would be buying an iPad Nano DS if it ever comes. I am used to reading books with my thumb in between two pages, if Nintendo DS can be converted into a “DS Book” I will buy it, and I know many old guys will jump to it.
