When it comes to television sets, 3D might currently be all the rage, but Swedish company, People of Lava, thinks everyone is crying out for a TV that offers much more than one-way interaction. With this in mind, the company with the kick ass name unveiled the Scandinavia, a 42″ LED HDTV that is powered by Google’s Android OS. Described by company literature as providing “all the functionality that you would expect from an Android smart phone, combined with the quality and definition you demand of a high-end Full-HD LED TV set,” the TV is set to undergo a public but very limited beta test this summer. As for Joe Q. Public, your date, if you should chose to go on one, is set for this September. Just make sure you have 2,000€ and 2,500€ or $2,700 and $3,370 USD to spare, okay?

    It sounds a little awkward to take an environment that was designed for a 3″ screen and put it on a 42″ screen…it can’t be a straight forward port for most android apps, I wouldn’t think.

    • What?

      I hate to be a jerk (too late), but you really believe a team of programmers and engineers just ported a portable OS onto a bigger screen… I mean, it doesn’t occur to you at all that they would maximize and customize the OS/UI to the bigger display? More importantly: You thought of that, but you don’t think they did? Do you under-estimate everyone like that?

        Sure, maybe they did ‘maximize and customize the OS/UI to the bigger display’ — whatever that means, I’m just saying that Joe Developer who wants to bring his app to the TV has a pretty big job in front of him, that’s all. Not a ‘straight forward port for most android apps’ that what I said. You’re a moron.

    you know Steve Jobs will want to sue this TV manufacture and claim they are infringing on Apple TV copyrights.

    but only on a 42 inch tv?!?!?! i think they need to offer it in a variety of sizes.

    every tv will soon be a videophone… and big brother will be with you always

    THIS is what Japan should be looking too and pushing. Not that god-awful 3D shit.

    $3K for a TV in which you can wear some glasses occasionally and see images 2 inches off the screen, also requiring purchase of add’l 3D equipment;

    or

    $3K for a TV that gives you total cloud computing without the computer?

    Fucking 3D bullshit. I pity all of you who buy into it.

    What’s with all those gdang clocks and calendar all the time? No one uses them, but they seem to be the default app for every new OS. Same goes for the calender: useless unless it syncs. /rant

    When it comes to Panasonic , Pioneer, or Samsung, I might consider it. The touch parts would have to be incorporated for a remote.. NO FINGY Prints on the big screen!!

    that actually looks pretty impressive. I men picture getting ready in the morning and kinda having all the basics for the day layed out like that on a TV its kinda cool looking.

    I wonder what info and data gets relayed back to google if you have one of these tv sets. I don’t care what anybody says and this will go on forever I don’t think it s a good idea for any one entity to have so much information about ALL of your habits and actions.

    What if Steven Jobs come up with a 46″ or more size Ipod/Ipad. Man, I am not an apple fan, and I would have gotten an android TV instead of Apple’s, But, if he does, then Bang, people will go crazy over that, 46 inches Ipad.

    so what actually is the increased functionality? i think i would still prefer having my mobile device/ laptop, be it android or other, on the table in front of me and not synced with my tv. and if it is not synced with this tv then what does the tv do with Android that makes it so much more useful than my regular television? does it just show weather widgets and let one check the occasional email or will it vibrate off the wall during “Brewster’s Millions” when i get a text from some jerk. I think i still want 1 way interaction with my tv for a while. I mean i would not at all be surprised if android relayed your viewing habits back to the mother server and started presenting specific commercial material based on your choices. say no to skynet.
