Rogers taking pre-orders for the XPERIA X10

Retail

se-xperia-x10

Alright, Canada, the time has come. You can now pre-order the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 from Rogers Wireless. To be available in both Sensuous Black and Luster White, the XPERIA X10 will set you back $149.99 on a 3-year contract. Definitely not bad for a phone with a 4″ WVGA display, 8.1 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, HSDPA and sexy UX UI overlay, but we can certainly see the lack of multitouch and the fact it currently runs Android 1.6 being a deal breaker for many. Rogers won’t give in and tell us the release date, but the whole “Hurry! Offer expires April 14th” leads us to believe we’ll see this sucker drop the day after that. Bonus: All pre-orders will net you a free Bluetooth headset and a chance to win a trip to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Shouts to South Africa.

    No multitouch = FAIL.

  • Bank teller

Sorry thats for the X1, Just trying to help, Gosh, Go fuck yourself, sorry for that, but really, please do

  • http://www.innopath.com Jason Lackey

Pity about 1.6 and the sad lack of multi-touch. I wish OEMs would figure out that newer Android trumps older android with aftermarket UI.

This phone has, however sold well in Japan, with 50k preorders and lines at launch.

Android phones in Japan will be interesting, with support of mobile payment such as Felica and Osaifu Keitai and OneSeg TV adding to the fun.

  • Makes Me Wonder

@ Bank Teller FAIL! You’re talking about the Xperia X1 which is a WM 6.1 device, this is the Xperia X10 which is an Android 1.6 device. Feel sorry for the bank you work for

  • Mik

    It’s beautifully unick

  • Adam

Gorgeous. I want one here in the United States :( (and if someone says “Ah, but Adam, it IS coming to the US!” you’ll make my day)

  • Que???

    3 year contract??? I didn’t realize…I’m sorry Canada.

  • FrankieFlo

I waited on this phone since october last year…now I know no multitouch and only 1.6….stupid ass SE fucked itself by its obvious limitations….now its all about the EVO and fingers crossed for a early june launch date….please if there’s a santa make this happen lol

  • iPad lover

Thats what alot of fuck tards dont realize, we’ve got cheap bastards complaining about the cost of phones and lengths of contracts over here. Look at other countries. Alot of countries dont even have subsidized phones. And if they do, some have 4-5 year contracts attached to them.

Worst thing about this phone isnt Gaydriod 1.6 its the resistive touch screen. Lack of a capacitive touch screen is a super fail!!

    • StevenGlansburg

Know it all Europeans: “but I wear gloves year round and resistive are better for that”

    • saltorio

The X10 has a capacitive screen. However it’s screen digitizer is not dual- or multi-touch capable.

    • iPad lover

Maybe it was the X-10 mini that had a resistive screen. Either way its a Sony. Famous for walkman, and playstation. Not cell phones.

i wanna see you use “gaydroid” in front of your gay boss, gay professor, gay brother, coworker, or gay cousin you backwards classless cowardly ghetto piece of horse dung. but it’s easy to shit out bigotry from your little brain when you’re hiding behind a computer.

but remember this and remember it WELL: THE GUYS WHO ARE NOT JOCKS, NOT MASCULINE, NOT ATTRACTIVE, NOT WELL-OFF, AND NOT BRAVE AND NOT FREE ENOUGH TO VOICE THEIR BIGOTRY IN REAL LIFE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO FEEL THE NEED TO ACT OUT AND VENT THEIR BIGOTRY ONLINE ANONYMOUSLY THROUGH A BLOG LIKE THIS ONE.

      • StevenGlansburg

gay is like saying retard. Very few if any people use it in a literal sense. The generations below the age or 40 get it. This PC garbage has got to go. You can be a gay retard without being literally homosexual and/or having a learning disability. Maybe it’s insensitive, but quit trying to equate it to calling a black man a N*****.

      • bubba

please do not defend bigotry and homophobia by siting PC notions. bigotry is bigotry.

you are right. few people use it in the literal sense because i am sure that you and i both say “i feel happy today” as opposed to “i feel gay today”….so i am not asking people to be PC by using the term gay in the literal sense.

but there is a reason why both gay people and the rest of society accepted the usage of the term gay to indicate being homosexual: because when your son is gay and he decides to tell you, he and you will both feel really stupid and inferior if says to you “dad, i am queer/fairy/fruit/fag/queen/homo”….instead he could say to you “dad, i am gay”, which has a positive conottation to ease dealing with a difficult minority sexual orientation.

now, do you think that it’s a co-incidence that only young “generations below the age of 40″ use the word gay to indicate being retarded? NO NO and NO, some suburban boys started using it ONLY AFTER it’s usage had clearly and officially shifted towards indicating being homosexual. the suburban guy can no longer use fag and queer comfortably as americans became more accepting of gay people, so the only solution for those boys is to take the nicest word available to indicate homosexuality and turn its meaning into something negative, a devious, yet not so subtle, strategy. and now you and people like ipad lover are spreading it. so here’s a question for you: how will you feel about yourself if your gay son told you ” dad i am gay” and then you say “son, you’re not a retard” and then he says “oh dad no, i meant gay as in homosexual, not retarded” ??? when you have a discussion like this with your son or brother, remember how you were one of those who actively participated in transforming the word gay from happy or homosexual to retarded and stupid.

and i also ask you to put your money where your mouth is and here’s how you can do this:

do you know a neighbor or boss or a co-worker who is gay? if you do, go have a random conversation with them and say “gaydroid” or say “man, that phone was gay”…..according to your logic, you should feel comfortable saying it and the other person would not be offended. if they get offended you can simply say “oh no, i meant retarded cus gay means retarded also”….try doing that…

Even more reason to stick with the Nexus One which will get Googles Android updates first, because it is their baby. Not to mention the actual OS doesn’t bog down like the X10 (watch the videos with more than 5 contacts updating on the timescape, terrible stuff). I appreciate SE, but over the years they’ve failed, this is no exception, don’t let the sleek look, big mp camera fool you, this phone is a waste of money, stick with the Nexus, Desire, HD 2, Legend, even the Hero if you desire some Android platform.

    • StevenGlansburg

HTC should be the only company allowed to make Android phones. All the rest have butchered the platform. MotoBLUR motoSUCKED, SE’s overlay sucks, and the Samsung cube thing sucked.

      • Que???

I mostly agree. The only other handset I’d toss in the mix would be the Droid. HTC has the best Android phones and UI hands down. At this stage in the game I don’t think I’d buy an Android based phone from any other hardware manufacturer.

    like anyone cares…..

hrdware is officially outdated (tft screen, no MT support on screen, physical old-school buttons, old-school sharp right angle corners, no real cam flash instead it’s got a cam light, no front cam)

software officially outdated: android 1.6 and unknown when android 2 will be OTA…

    laggy slow buggy UI

    useless virtual keyboard

and on top of all that: overpriced….

    • saltorio

Is the HTC Desire also officially outdated, since it has “physical old-school buttons” and “no front cam”? And have you used a retail model X10 to experience its “laggy slow buggy UI” and “useless virtual keyboard”?

Not saying the X10 is perfect in any way. Just pointing out the potential flaws in your statement.

      • bubba

actually, i am biased in favor of capacitive buttons but the desire’s buttons are less old-school than X10 because they are smaller and just more refined.

i dont have a retail version but a few guys on the phandroid forums have actually purchased them and they are having issues with the SE VK. in fact, engadget reviewed it and also complained about the VK. off course, the techies can be picky but you could see in the video how the VK lagged.

also those same kids on the phandroid forums are reporting that once the number of txt msgs or tweets exceeds a certain limit, these nifty scrolling cards of timescape become laggy.

dont get me wrong, if i was in europe or japan where options are limited, i would get the X10. but here in the U.S, N1 and droid are out there and evo and samsung gal s are coming, makes it hard to appreciate anything this phone has to offer

      • jvijil

I have used an x10 at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami and the virtual keyboard was just shite. Not to mention that Timescape and Mediascape are extremely laggy and slow down android as well.

  • radio2

Actually, the 1.6 will be great considering the rest of us Canadian Android owners are still stuck with Rogers ROMs on 1.5. This is still an upgrade regardless of how shitty Rogers is.

    • Mik

Perhaps on Rogers, though Telus has the Milestone.

  • Matt

This phone is sooooo awesome!! It has everything and the specs are at the top of the list..I want one so bad!!

SE have confirmed the X10 will be getting updated to Andriod 2.1 in october for O2 UK.

How does SE plan to capture the US market by shipping the phone here last. They said it was coming to the US market in April should have heard by now.I think I’ll go for a HTC when AT&T finally gets one.I wish Verizon would get the IPHONE then AT&T would get android phones faster. They are so behind.Scared of (the 21 century beta-max) Apple IPhone.
