Tell us your iPad story

Hardware

ipadToday is just about as big a day as possible in the tech world, as literally hundreds of thousands of Americans will be waiting in line at retail stores or waiting patiently at home for the UPS man so they can finally get their hands on the Apple iPad, a gadget that even the most computer illiterate by now know all too well. Easily one of the most polarizing gadgets to come out in the past decade, many of its new owners will view the iPad as the pinnacle of personal tech while others will sorely regret spending their tax rebate on something they could easily have gone without. With this in mind, we want to know just what it is you, our loyal readers, think of your new gear. Is it worth all the hype, or are you already bored of it and planning on giving it to your mom on Mother’s Day? Let us know your thoughts when you get one today!

P.S. We’re just snapping some pics and giving the thing the once over, so expect an initial hands on very shortly. We’ll put up a full review once we get to spend some alone time with the thing.

People that say it sucks after trying it out at the store are idiots! Try some of the apps designed for the ipad, then tell me it sucks! Put an OS on any computer and no programs and tell me how good it is!

went to best buy in Pasadena this afternoon – waited 15 min to play with the ipad. they had 6 left – it’s a really nice product. it’s perfect for reading and watching movies etc. it will be great for some that don’t currently own a laptop or desktop. after playing withbit for a bit I walked out without a purchase. I couldn’t justify spending that much money on essentially a large iPod that is much more easy to travel with. still a great product – just not reasonable for everyone. def interested in the next iPhone and how it will compete with the current offerings on the market.

Only a company like apple could have people sweating to give them money. This thing is a beast. If you have spent any money on apps for an itouch you just doubled your investment. Apps like Beat maker and touch osc make this thing worth its weight in gold. Drove by the apple store this morning and saw a line of two hundred plus people lined up. I cruised by on my lunch and picked one up. In and out of the store in a few minutes. Love how there were two police officers at the door. Again… Only Apple could pull something like this off. Cheers. Go get one now… or wait for mine to show up on craigslist when the next one comes out ;)

Well so far the experience with the iPad has been good. Things have been working the way I would have expected. I do have to say email and calendering work the way it should.

Jobs and co do obsess on things, but when they do, stuff just seems to work right.

Why I should win the Apple iPad?

I am a huge Apple fan. I’ve bought just about every apple product that I’ve been able to over the years. Been using Macs since OS 8
But most importantly – about a month ago someone stole my credit card and ironically pre-ordered an iPad (i’m assuming – because of the amount spent) at my expense.
Because I’ve been low on funds for the past little while as a student – I haven’t been using my credit card and wasn’t even notified about the charges until my mom called me last week.
And now I’ve had to endure the release of one of the greatest products – which I’ve already paid for.

Please make my dreams come true and send me an iPad! I want nothing more!

Messed with one in the cesars palace apple store yesterday and this is one sweet device! Only got a few minutes for a first impression, and I really liked it. Would still prolly wait for a second gen and for it to be cheaper. They still had a bunch of each kind in stock.

Hey BoyGenius…….well….why would I need an iPad you ask?….I’m a buuusy college student, majoring in Cellular Molecular Biology, who curses the day when the Pearson Gods invented those insanely heavy textbooks with 1000+ pages….which I have to carry almost every day..so please, PLEASE, pretty please with sprinkles on it….=P.!

hi there i really would enjoy to have an ipad thank you

Normally, I hate apple’s design over function approach to everything. I’m really rooting for Microsoft now a’days, but apple makes a great product. I was able to pick up the 32gb model at the apple store thanks to apples reservation program. So far the iPad is exactly what I expected it to be, a giant iPod touch… Which is great. The iPod touch and the iPhone are great products (though, not for every one). It’s obvious the future generations will have hardware that the current generation is lacking (ie. Camera) , but apple has done a good job here.

I am very I pressed with the iPad. It feeling good in the hand and on the lap. The iPad apps look pretty good. That’s kind of amazing considering most of the developers didn’t have a iPad for ui design.

After using the iPAd for a few hours I find it hard to use my iphone the way I used too. The iPad has replaced my iphone for lite browsing at home and replaced my laptop for non-work travel.

I have been using PC’s since the 1980′s and have never had an Apple product. I am 69 years old. I think I should get one soon.

    Thank you,

    Joel

This has replaced my phone too. I have decided to get rid of my iPhone! Switch to sprint when the evo comes out and keep the pad but w a 3G option. It will actually save me some money and since sprint piggybacks on verizon I might have a chance of keeping a call going for more than three minutes at a time.

  • The Truth

I guarantee the people who bought the iPad and went to church for Easter Sunday didn’t give a dime in church. Priorities are all fucked up. This thing is missing so many features that a $600 price tag is laughable. Apple could put their logo on shit and people would pre order it.

    • Lava

      1. So how much money have you given in church this year?

      2. So name some of these iPad buyers who went to church who didn’t give a dime.

      Idiot.

Got to Bestbuy an hour early by mistake, then I went to Starbucks to get some coffee, came back 45 minutes later only to find about 20 people waiting in line to buy an iPad. About a minute after I walked up to the store the manager came out asking who was here for an iPad, I quickly raised my hand and he ask him which one I said the 32gig please he handed me a paper that guaranteed me the iPad. 20 minutes later I am walking out the door with my newly purchased iPad. Amazing!

Went to the local Ridgedale Bestbuy and got my iPad early saturday morning. No one was there when I arrived at 8:30 am. Cars started pulling up around 8:40 and people waited inside the warmth of their cars (it was quite chilly that morning). When the clock hit 8:58 the manager at the Bestbuy opened the door for me and one other kid that was waiting outside the door and everyone else came out of their cars to come in. The employees were all at the Apple table and their were about six iPads to fool around with. When we wanted to purchase onewehadto go to the customer service desk and get one. I got a 32 GB version and I love it. It is my new “sit in bed and read tech blog posts” device and I have yet to find a major flaw. I just can’t wait until facebook makes an app for it though!

    @ricktheprick,

probably cuz the ipad doesn’t support Flash and never will; although, New York Times should be on board with all the ipad nonsense.

I walked into the local Apple Store at 8:30pm on Saturday, and was able to pick up a 16GB model and a 64GB model. The sales person I worked with said that their supplies were starting to run low, and they were busy all day.

I am so glad I didn’t wait in line over night!

  • JNH

I didn’t buy an ipad. And I went to church on Easter Sunday. But still didn’t put any money in the offering plate. I’m poor.

  • derrick

My wife wants this or the 10 inch kindle. If i can get it for free that would be sweet.

  • Jerryvp

I don’t care what any of the skeptics say, this is just too much fun. It’s incredibly fast, ridiculously easy to use and well worth the money. Even if version 2 comes with a camera and a price drop, it will still have been worth it to get this now. I’m using the 32GB model with my wireless network at home and a Verizon MiFi on the road and it’s the best computer I’ve ever owned. It’s even faster and more fun to use than my my new dual core Windows 7 Toshiba Laptop. I haven’t enjoyed a computer this much since I got my Mac LC
III back in the early 90′s.

i reserved my ipad for store pick up when you were able to. As saturday approached I decited i should show up early, remembering my experience with the iphone when it first came along. So I arrived at 7am,,, and yes there was a line,,, i was number 174 in the reserve line, after waiting, i got my hands on it about 11am,,, did i mention i had to be at work that day at 1pm,, about 1.5 hours later,, i was 50 min late for work,,,, still worth the chewing out!!

this maching is gonna change everything, its not just a big ipod touch, imagine a world where textbooks are no longer killing millions of trees every year, resteraunts and cafes using ipad interactive menues, ipod touches to take payment using square, artists drawing sketches, and of course the internet,… im not sure if people have really stopped to think for a min about what the ipad truely represents,,,
