Sprint to communicate a "big program" to employees on March 31st

Don’t ask us for a lot of specifics because even our tipsters don’t have them, but we’re hearing Sprint has a pretty big internal announcement penciled in for this week. Several employees hit us up over the weekend after having allegedly received a memo from the bigwigs informing them of a mandatory meeting which will take place after local shops close up on the 31st (apparently the high-ups “don’t want to spoil the surprise”). All we can do at this point is speculate about what Hesse & Co. could possibly have up their sleeves, but some of our new connects think it might have something to do with Sprint going nuclear, as people who haven’t paid attention to it in the past now have their eyes glued thanks to the sudden awareness of 4G WiMAX owing to the HTC EVO 4G. We’ve got our eye on you, Sprint.

I wonder how many APRIL FOOLS jokes will be on all the tech sites this year…this being one of them, most likely.

    @TiminAR

Hope you didn’t think you did anyone a favor. Check out what 4G is defined as and then get back to me. Wait I will save you the trouble. Sprint has maximum download speeds of only 10Mbit/s. While 4G is classified as A data rate of at least 100 Mbit/s between any two points in the world. The EVO is classified as a multi-mode WiMAX and 3G EV-DO device. Just so you know, your helping some marketing manager laugh his way to the bank

    • Roach

um, if you’re going to save us the trouble could you at least report the information correctly? kkthx.

    • drksilenc

good thing that even verizons lte cant even do that then its peakin out at 60 in a closed lab enviroment

  • Supersonicly 4G :]

actually 4G is categorized as a steady data connection somewhat like wifi. 3G constantly has to reconnect to the server every time while 4G does not therefor allowing constant data streaming like live video.

Please get your facts straight before you tell someone off, the device is indeed a 4G phone…gahh fanboy

  • theproto

Ok… Now we can all get pissy and regurgite info from Wikipedia… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G.

While the Wikipedia “definition” refers to IMS-Adv being met with the WiMAX 802.16m. This is not currently being deployed, the upgrade path is an easy one however.

Regardless, I look forward to using WiMAX (3.9G) until WiMAX 2.0 (4G) makes its way into our airwaves. The issues we will face are less likely to be over the air, but the IP network’s backbone, site links and tower backhauls.

HAHAHAHA that would be awesome if the announcement was that the new iPhone is actually coming to Sprint, not Verizon, lol

  • Jiggie

I have been with AT&T for about 4 years, and have had iPhones since they have come out. They are no longer ahead of the market as far as their device goes, and AT&T service has been Shit of late (In the Phoenix area at least), Verizon is way to expensive… and my wife and I have made a pretty clear decision that Sprint is offering quality phones, and their phone plans are actually the most affordable for what you get out of them.

I don’t understand why people go to Verizon, their costs are hyst… insane.

    • Joe

Most of them don’t know any better… most of the time people have the mentality that “everyone I know has Verizon so I have to as well because Verizon to Verizon is free” They don’t realize that Sprint will allow you to call ANY cell phone unlimited and include messaging AND data for the same price than Verizon charges for 450min (with free Verizon to Verizon) with unlimited messaging.

And the other most popular thing I hear is “I’m on my parents plan and they pay the bill so I don’t care” which seems to be at least half of the people that have Verizon.

Sprint has allotted an hour of time after COB on 03/31/10 for this announcement. They would never pay an hour’s wage to every employee in the company for a phone or SW announcement. It’s going to be some sort of plan or program that they will have to give extensive training on.

    • JR

Agree with your comment. I believe it’s probably a some sort of “Wimax” plan to get ready for the EVO launch. That is the only thing I can think of since their plans can’t get much lower and still make money.

    • Buttcheeksbarry

I think you are correct on this. It’s called, how to lie, cheat, swindle customers in less than 60 seconds. Now that’s efficiency that Sprint can bank on!

  • I-Luv_Nextel

I hear they are going to go over etiquette….. no more ghetto sales tactics…. no more sagging pants in front of the customers……. no more smoking weed in front of the store in view of the public…..

Ebonics will be outlawed and telling customers that they can roam all they want on Verizon (even if US Cellular is the preferred roaming partner in the area) will be forbidden.

Employees will no longer be able to swindle accessories for cash under the table and they will now be required to hire at least one caucasian for every 10 black employees.

    • Buttcheeksbarry

Complete wireless plan . . . one puff of smoke, everything “ok”, 2 puffs of smoke, “wake up somebody coming”, 3 puffs of smokes, “oh shit, it’s white man again!”

Sprint is going to provide each customer vaseline 1st before raping you on their horrid billing.

  • Mark

Ok, I am one of the guys at Sprint “in the know”. This news does not deserve a mention at BGR simply because the announcement is about getting the toilets at Sprint unisexual here on..huh..

  • Bugs

iluvnextel and mark are tools. haven’t you two outgrown the basement you share? get a life, idiots.

Apple is buying Sprint for a steal! New name :Apple Mobility. Verizon and Att’s 4G infrastructure plans are 1 to 2 years behind Sprint’s WiMax that Apple wants to dominate the future of phones along with the fact that it’s mobile products are the future. Apple is too much of a leader to keep relying just on other’s mobile networks– it recognizes it’s need to control it’s own Mobile Network and that Sprint is undervalued and way ahead of the game in 4G. Apple wants full control of it’s Mobility for its future products and Sprint needs help financially and has a big jump on its competition. Apple and Sprint is a Marriage made in Heaven :)

  • bill

i work for sprint. this is just an announcement to the employees of the company for a rollout. something no other carrier offers but it will be something simple

  • Donte

The meeting will most likely be a new service plan. The service plan will be between the BoostMobile plan of 59.99 unlimited everything and Sprints plan of 99.99 unlimited everything. A plan based around 79.99 but if you add 4G to the service, it may peak around 109.99. Which I believe would become another revolution all together. By adding better usage and service for an unbeatable price.

Only thing that can top that would be iPhone 4G or a Palm 4G device that has the HTC Evo specs as standard. It will cost Sprint over 1 million dollars to hold this meeting (including overtime and extra facility cost). They would not waste a meeting like this on some useless information.

I hope it is the service plan. But another 4G device would only grab more customers. How about this website take a look at what people think it is a make a poll!!!

  • chellykay

I plan on switching to Sprint when the Evo comes out. They are already building a 4g sprint tower in my area! Goodbye Att…..

  • Buttcheeksbarry

Sprint will be providing escort services . . . hey, at least people will have “jobs”

  • Buttcheeksbarry

Guess this is Sprint’s big announcement. Effective tomorrow, Sprint will offer a”Sprint Free Guarantee” on all contracts. Anyone who inks a deal with the Now Network will be able to walk away from it within 30 days and not have to pay any sort of fine. All you have to do is hit them up and let ‘em know you don’t want to continue the relationship and return your handset. For being such an upstanding person, Sprint will do so much more than just give you your money back for the phone. They’ll give you back your activation fee, axe the restocking fee, kill off the ETF and, this is a biggie… refund your entire month’s service including surcharges and taxes. We’d say this has a more than good chance of quickly being copied by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, but clearly they’re not desperate enough to risk implementing a policy that looks to be painfully easy to exploit.

    • leja99

I’m pretty sure the 30 day return policy has been there for some time. It’s even noted in their ETF agreement that outlines the fees/months. I don’t know about the other parts of it.
