Windows Phone 7 Series successfully ported to HTC HD2 (Updated)

Microsoft might have lost a lot of friends when it finally announced the HTC HD2 would not receive an update to Windows Phone 7 Series, but its loss is Tom Codon’s gain. A fixture over at the HTCPedia forums, Codon looks to have become the first person to port WP7S over to the HD2. Offering up four photos and video as proof of his accomplishment, Codon noted that most features of his experimental deviceĀ are working well including GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Lag is proving to be a bit of an issue at this stage thanks to a stubborn graphics driver, but it’s nothing that can’t be overcome by the time the first beta, said to be coming soon, is released.

Nerd-approved pics after the jump.

UPDATE: Two videos have been released and we have them ready to go after the jump.

    Goodbye iPhone and crap AT&T.

Going back to an OS without copy/paste and only 8 GB of storage? No thank you…

To bad you don’t own an iPhone. Always nice to see the Apple hate though.

    • FreeRange

Please, how stupid. This is and always will be MSFT crapware. Only a brainwashed fool will want a MSFT OS on their phone. This UI looks like it was designed by someone with attention deficit disorder – oh, that would be Steve Balmer. Another dysfunctional product from a dysfunctional company – can you say Vista? Of IE?

  • kingdongdor

ooh yeah, its nice to know that wm7 is not that crippled..

  • bluehorseshoe

Of course they were, 1% of the internet is interested in all things un Apple related. 99% of the internet is interested in things Apple related. Just because you are a geeks geek doesn’t mean your anti social status in your mothers basement means anything of importance.

      • Windows7

OH Jarrettt, You took the bait, you are so predictable. I knew the second I wrote that you would come crying. Damn I should have put money on that.

      • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

Yes, always put your money on truth. I agree completely.

  • Peter

Photos prove nothing and neither do the extremely low quality videos they have put up. Please just put a decent quality video up.

    • Windows7

Buy those russian boys a vodka on me.

    • StevenGlansburg

Post has now been updated with videos.

    • Windows7

The reason the vid is bad is because it was taken with the tired old 3 megapixel camera on the iphone. You know the exact same one they had back in the day.

  • kingdongdor

screw Engadget….BGR fanboy here, I LOVE THIS CROWD…

  • T-MOBILE-REP

All I have to say it’s ‘IN YOUR FACE”

    • (The real Jarrett) Jarrett

It is really all about mindshare. When has Nokia ever had much mincshare?

      • Windows7

        Do you mean mind control

  • Leks

Now I can drop my nokia n900 and get the HD2.

  • T-MOBILE-REP

I don’t really worry about windows 7 for now cause the current 6.5 works great for now, although the “7″ looks awesome, I’m pretty sure it is going to be upgradeable, even as is this phone is sold out everywhere! now imagine with WM7…..

    • Maybe…not

      @ T-MOBILE-REP:

That’s what I’m saying… I was a little worried about going w/ the HD2 VS waiting for WP7… now that I’ve had one week of the HD2 under my belt, I’m almost questioning if I even would want to go to WP7.

      • TIG

I feel the same way. The phone kicks ass as is. It will take a lot for me to want to jump ship.

  • Jim

Easy there chancellor, this phone has quite some way to go before it can knock down the iPhone. I was checking it out on release
day at my local tmo store fully prepared to pick it up and drop my iPhone and AT&T service once and for al. Sadly, the HD2 just isn’t quite there. The noticable lag and generally non-responsive screen was a real deal breaker for me. Even my bud who came with me to see what the HD2 was all about passed on it after using it as well and he’s got an old school BB! Just sayin, try before u buy.

    • Maybe…not

      Liar.

  • Mrwirez

I am a geek through and through.. I like this. You could run Android on this too.. Win 7 looks cool..

  • eric

Man, that first photo looks like a candidate for Photoshop Disasters. The fingers look positively tortured. (Sorry, it just looks akward.)

  • DigDug

Well, I guess Microsoft should at least get recognition for developing an ap/menu item call “CTURES.”

They might also have “HONEBOO” “ULATOR” “SETTI” and “ESSAG.”

    Weird, just really weird.

  • Michael

cool phone and glad they got it wp7 working on it, but not enough to make me leave big blue at&t, i’ll wait for the htc hd3 later this year

  • jack

have the htc touch hd and replaced touch flo with spb mobile shell, and installed several programs which work perfect. have 16 gb storage, can use the phone even in Japan. why should I pay double the amount for an iphone? And why should I upgrade to a wm7 phone if I can’t use my programs anymore?
No cut & paste? I use it all the time….

  • omariko2181

I gave my iPhone 3gs to ny wife and bought the HD2. Best phone i have ever owened. Windows mobile is the most complete o.s out there. I have a zune and i would love it if windows 7 was available for HD2

  • Bros

It’s way toooooooo slow , even in the video you can see how sluggish is the WM7. I have an HD2 and it’s the worst device I ever had. Don’t waste you money on MSFT products.
