Who effin cares ! Blackberry’s are CRAP CRAP CRAP and OBSOLETE OBSOLETE OBSOLETE !

While Blackberrys are beginning to look decrepit as smartphones for younger non-business oriented individuals they will always have a market due to the fact that they are by far the best option for a business customers. The Iphone has a notoriously weak OS in regards to security seemingly able to be hacked at will by those who know how to do that stuff, and the Android devices while amazing as personal and entertainment devices don’t support instantaneous email push services and instead will check for emails to push in 15 minute intervals. Android phones as well as the Iphone arent nearly as corporate email friendly as Blackberry as well.

“the Android devices while amazing as personal and entertainment devices don’t support instantaneous email push services and instead will check for emails to push in 15 minute intervals. ”

Sorry, but you’re wrong. Exchange Direct Push works fine on the [Moto] Droid.

That’s not to say I disagree with your main point – Android is great, but enterprise-ready it is not. The Droid is a good step, but Android loves to randomly “eat” your entire Exchange account for no reason and until that is fixed it is right out. I’ve been using TouchDown to handle Exchange for now and hoping that 2.1 will fix Exchange, if it ever comes out.

This is a bit off. ActiveSync works well on Android and Gmail/Google Apps accounts are real-time as well. The pop/integrated inbox in Android 2.x polls at intervals. The real drawback on both Android and IPhone is the lack of an integrated Inbox that incorporates both push and polled accounts. Also, both Y and G support BIS, which makes personal accounts instantaneous on BBerry. Yahoo is only available on Android/iPhone as POP.

i dont need an iphone to try and impress people with apps…

my tour can do everything your phone can… i have not found one need for the lack of wifi, and hell id rather use a more mouselike input.

maybe because i’m not impressed by touchscreens, they have been around for a while, except the hd2 but thats a given.

and oh yeah my tour gets 2-3 days of battery no problem, and thats using it heavily with gps and browsing.

      • Joe

Sounds like you dont really use your Tour. I have to charge mine from empty to full 3 times / day and deal with endless pauses as the clock whirls in the center of my screen. I really hope OS 5 addresses some of these issues.

  • Jamie

By the way, OS 5.0 has been out over FOUR FUCKING MONTHS VERIZON !!!!

    • Andy

Why so negative Jamie? Sad because your phone isnt near as good as a Blackberry or that you dont have VZW?

  • joe vzw

Incorrect info. A 4.7 version will be released with the ptt feature

    • Rhys

No, PTT on the tour will only work on 5.0…the first step to installing ptt is making sure the the os is 5.0 or higher

  • bluehorseshoe

    Uh…the 5.0 version with PTT.

  • Jacob

As a new RIM user (6 months) this is my first upgrade, and I have a couple questions about it:

Do you know what we need to do to be ready for the upgrade? Will our applications be ready for OS 5 or we need to prepare something before?

Probably I’m thinking about an upgrade like Windows XP -> Vista or Mac OS Tiger -> Leopard, but…

    Thanks.

    • Phil

Do a backup of your phone prior to starting it. It will take a bit of time to go through the upgrade.

To echo the poster above, it is above f-ing time 5.0 will be released to VZW…

      • skyy_flyer

So just curious, who the hell downranked Jacob for asking a question?

      • Jacob

No me, but I give you one point for your question.

      • Jacob

Thanks. I hope this won’t be like upgrade PC/Mac OS.

  • joe cool

Find him and ask about the bold 96550!!!

  • rcmadiax

Sprint has had it for some time now, way to catch up Verizon!

    • VZW

Verizon version has more features then Sprints, too. Like others said, Verizons will offer PTT.

      • Tim

also Verizon is more picky about the OS’s they releease than Sprint because they are concerned about their network.

  • Roger A

PTT? Really… Through what? Kodiak? Since QChat and Motorola are licensed to other mediums.. I hate to think Verizon will try to use this as a “feature” and have it fail.

    *under breath* Nextel rules!

  • Coolbone

5.0 is so old that I had it installed on my verizon Tour (leak of course), bought a Droid, rooted it, put 2.1 on it, enjoyed it for 2 months before it was stolen. Came back to the Tour, put a NEWER leaked 5.0 on it (that still sucks) and have since waited another 2 months (!) and we’re finally getting it?

Safe to say: never buying a blackberry ever again.

  • rcmadiax

I don’t understand why those that need PTT don’t just go with Nextel.

    1.Cheaper Plans
    2.No Delay Connection
    3.BlackBerry Curve 8350i & Motorola i1 Smartphones

    Am I missing anything?

    • David

Very chic with the NASCAR group too.

    • VZW

Nextels coverage is horrible. No roaming. The data is extremely slow. Sprint has not kept up with it.

    • Tim

no coverage unless you are in a big city…

    • Mitch

Yeah, you are missing a lot.

Their coverage is nonexistent, and sometimes not even in big cities. My father works in DC and Arlington and has Nextel, there are huge holes in weird places.

  • Jeremiah

Sorry but the Tour has to be the boringest BlackBerry out of the mix.

It’s heavy, blocky and dull looking with no WiFi.

Why can’t Verizon get the 9700 Bold series. I’ve been with Verizon for years but we always get the fugly phones.

PTT? Seriously. People still use that?

    Excuse me while I yawn.

    • Jenna

I know. Not a big fan of the Tour looks either.

I think a lot of us got it because we wanted a higher end BlackBerry and Verizon was just slow to respond so we took what we could get.

It’s functional but yeah I wish Verizon could order better looking functional devices down the road.

    • mark

So true. I just realized this. The 9700 does feel much lighter in the hand and easier on the eyes than the 9630.

The Tour is okay, but RIM is getting a bit old in the tooth in general and needs a design refresh.

Maybe that CDMA radio chip weighs the thing down lol

      • StevenGlansburg

I’ve had both the 9630 and the 9700. My biggest gripe of the Tour… the headphone jack was terrrrrrible. Biggest gripe of the 9700 is that there is no border around the keys like the Tour which was a nice buffer zone.

    • bluehorseshoe

I use both devices (Tour and 9700) and there’s not that much of a physical difference aside from the trackball vs. touch pad. Weight? comon’…do those couple of ounces really weigh someone down?

    • Lady GaGa

because my little monster, Verizon sucks.

    • Nerdherder

True about the wi-fi, but I seriously like a device with a little weight to it. The lighter it is, the cheaper it feels

    • Tim

You do realize that when you put a Tour next to a 9700 from the front they look almost exactly the same other than the track pad and once Tour2 comes out it will look the same. And actually the Tour looks better on the back, more rounded and smooth than the 9700… do some research buddy :-)

*makes an under breath about Bold fanboys…*

  • David

Introduce the 9650 Tour II and let the 9630 users upgrade. No one wants to purchase a 9630 at this point.

  • http://www.twitter.com/jazzyl jazzyl

Good news for all the Tour users….

  • Jon

It’s rumored that the 9650 which will probably be released in April will be a bold. That’s the Tour with wi-fi, trackpad, blah blah.

    • VZW

It is a Bold. It will be called the BlackBerry Bold 9650.

  • http://(null) Dallas

    The Update won’t happen.

    Too little too late.

now think back to those times and get some info on the bo bo bo bold 9650

  • Jon

anyone know the actual difference between 4.7 and 5.0 except PTT? I couldn’t find any info anywhere on that.

    • Tim

Threaded SMS… also some new API’s under the hood. Physically they are quite similar.

  • plife

Pa Pa Pa Push to talk. Whatever. Where’s the incredible?

  • plife

Pa Pa Pa Push to talk. Whatever. Where’s the incredible? Too short to publish?

  • Tim

I too am wary of weather this will happen on time. First the leaked memo said Monday, now this says Tuesday…. does not really matter to me since this is supposed to be .591 which leaked the other day and I am running as we speak…

  • Jarmer

hahahha this is hilarious, I was running 5.0 on my tour SOOO many months ago. Just sad how long it takes these updates to hit public.

  • lyle berman

    it’s out! finally!
