HTC CEO declares the Nexus One a success

Google-Nexus-One-51

Peter Chou, Chief Executive Officer at HTC, is causing quite a stir with a few off-the-cuff comments he made during an interview at CTIA on Wednesday. When talking about the Nexus One, Chou declared the device a success and claimed it will drive new business to HTC, despite the handset’s shaky public reception. For those that have been living in a closet, the Nexus One has had a somewhat rocky beginning with early customers reporting 3G reception issues, lagging sales that obviously placed it behind the DROID in popularity, and most recently, display issues that mar the handsets self-proclaimed status as a super-phone. Chou brushed aside the lagging sales and claimed that “the Nexus One is doing pretty well”, when you consider that Google did not “do [standard] retail or marketing for it”. Chou failed to address any shortcomings of the device, choosing to focus on the innovative design of the Nexus One and the experience HTC gained in developing the Android 2.1 device. Chou brought it all home by declaring , “We can quickly leverage that credit [the Nexus One] to show that we are the top Android brand”. So what do you think, did Peter Chou partake of that fast Vegas lifestyle before taking the stage at CTIA or is he spot on with his assessment of the Nexus One and what it means for HTC?

This is so pathetic. A bunch of android fanboys allergic to the truth, putting negative ratings on my post. At the end of the day, what are the big phones from this event? Does it even matter if they all run Android? Pretty soon, arguing about phones is going to be like arguing about ISP’s or PC manufacturers. What’s the point if they can’t actually differentiate themselves? And how many of us go out of our way to lavish praise on them? The Nexus One just got crapped on by the EVO and Samsung’s phone and JUST LIKE I SAID, even THOSE phones will be irrelevant in another 3 months. Mark my words. You guys are a bunch of suckers for an unproven OS. You’re just so desperate for something new or not to be part of another crowd, you’ll do anything to justify your purchase. Grow up and grow a pair.

And The Evo will have a run for its money with the MotoRoi :)

And they all wipe their a-holes with apples Iphone. Look at the growth Android has seen in the last three months vs all other smartphone OS. Whats unproven is any of the smartphone OS longevity. Iphone only been on the scene a few years. Android, only a year and a half. BB is the only one that has been here for 5+ years. For myself, Android is exciting because it is great to see the different iterations each company come up with. And it keeps getting better. So what if it is every three months, I will take that over iphones schedule any day.

Can’t really believe any words coming out of Chou’s mouth. As a CEO, it’s his job to spin like crazy.. and make everything, even the huge negative like the HTC driver fiasco, a positive.

Chou is a moron, n1 is garbage, htc is very poor quality, the quality of htc cannot match nokia samsung or apple. Google shouldve went with nokia. Sure the phone is having problems but lets ignore it, ye the screen had problems but look at the processor ?!!!!! Hahaha its too bad when ceo is like a cheap sales man, doesnt face the music, just choses to bable and pretend he didnt hear anytn

    the nexus one is trash..

  • windontree

the NexusONE from the blurry text, sunlight wash, antenna 3g issues, handgripdistorts signal, T(errible)-Mobile network, notdesignedforpocket, marketing, customer service and support failure etc. It’s a DISASTER ! If Google tried not to be an iPhone clone and had HTC design the HD2 specs for Android2.1 WITH a QWERTY keyboard.

Peter Chou lies or has no idea what he’s talking about!

I think hes right, the android market has grown greatly since the N1 and Droid release. Its grown so much its even made the non innovators at Apple sue HTC. When the competition sues you then you have something they can’t compete against.

I have had my Nexus One for 4 days now and I have to say that I love it. Sure it has a few peculiarities, but I think it is a great phone. O and I have rooted it.
