Stevesy (Jobs, not Zissou) is certainly not going to like this. iPhone hacker extraordinaire George Hotz aka geohot has just teased the iPhone community with a 68 second video showing off a new untethered jailbreak. Here’s his statement:

The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models [iPod touch G2, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch G3], and will probably work on iPad too.

I can’t wait for this to come out. Is this jailbreak going to support OS 3.1.3 or not? I’m sorry if it’s obvious and I just missed it somehow. I’ve always been jailbroken until my new 3GS with new bootrom and OS 3.1.3:( Hopefully this will help me out! I will trust this over sn0wbreeze.

“Anyone using an iPhone that is not jailbroken is an idiot and using 1/2 of available capabilities.”

The average user doesn’t need all the capabilities that a jailbroken iPhone offers. They’re just fine with the device out of the box and calling them idiots because of that is asinine and makes you sound like a punk.

yeah the average user wouldn’t like to listen to pandora and do ANYTHING else at the same time like answer a text message or email…. get the fuck out of here.

There are several reasons anyone would jailbreak if it weren’t such a pain in the ass to do so. Not to mention that the majority of people out there are just too stupid to remember NOT to update the newest Apple firmware.

Personally, I got sick of that game.

Wow Steven, this is the second time ive agreed with you. I often wonder why people want in on a phone that is a constant headache, yes praise the company like a god? My friend had to send his off to apple care just to change the battery, its going to cost him a ton and he,s without a phone for who knows how long. all day long I changed my $10 battery in my phone in ten seconds in front of him,, drove him crazy :) I will stick to Tim Care.

whats the big deal abt this jailbreak?

  • darshone

what a stupid fucking song, god i feel sorry for the ignorant fools that listen to that shit.

Jailbreak does not void warranty. If the phone can power up, the Apple shitware can be reinstalled. And to the guy who thinks only punks jailbreak, you might be correct in my case, but I heard Mother Theresa was a big time Cydia user. Ghandi too was into non violent themes and didn’t care for the standard black homescreen, maybe he was a racist.

Sereiously, yall need to grow up and stfu about jailbreaking yes or no.

You have the option to jailbreak just like the person standing next to you that has an iphone. Big Fucking deal if someone chooses not to jailbreak. Seriously, get a fucking life. Enjoy what you got and dont worry about everyone else. Its their loss and your gain and they can also say the same thing.

How do I roll with my iphone? Jailbroken of course. Do I care if others who have iphones if their jailborken? Nope, honestly dont give a fuck as long as mine work s and their iPhone works.

If your iphone does mess up or you brick it, all you have to do is restore it in iTunes…. and then your right at the beginning again with a new iphone

  • Jack Tee

well said loki, I don’t care either, but you gotta admit, a non jb’d iphone is a pos. No matter, the Evo and subsequent Androids gonna kill it any how

F this, F that. The Apple fanclub is getting sophisticated.

What is the difference between untethered and tethered? Does it mean that you could jailbreak without being plugged into a computer or something else?

  • Robert

No, currently a ‘tethered’ jailbreak means in order to boot the phone/ipod you have to plug it into the computer and just run the jailbreak program. If you boot the phone off and try to boot it otherwise, it says connect to itunes.

Anyone using an iPhone, jailbroken or no, is using a POS. I use a Droid Eris and a Palm Pre Plus (exrtra upgrade on account, don’t ask) and they are both awesome. Jailbreaking is letting your iPhone do something that Windows Mobile and PalmOS have been doing literally for decades.
