Sprint announces additional 4G markets for 2010

For those of you who haven’t had the chance to take it for a spin, Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network is quite the treat; the only problem is that it’s currently offered in 27 select markets. Well today Sprint announced some more key markets that it plans to blanket with 4G goodness by the end of 2010: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Miami, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and St. Louis. Earlier on in the year Sprint also announced it will be operating the new network in Boston, Denver, Kansas City, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Translation: 120m Americans will soon have access to some pretty mind-numbing speeds. Gee, now why would Sprint tell us this today?

I am 6’4” and i have rather large hands, and I think the nexus one corners are kind of stretching my hands to touch them, and you need to on many apps. with the new larger screen it would be even harder, it’s a two handed device. and that sucks to me.

nice look, just too damn big.

Can someone please tell me how good or bad Sprint’s coverage is in and around L.A.?

    Thank you! :)

Chicago has been up for almost a year now, went live last summer. Can’t wait for that superior LTE in more markets to put this fake 4G to bed. We all know vzw has the best everything and their 4G phones (next year), aircards and MiFi will make whatever you can get right now pale in comparison.

    mindnumbing speeds = fast??
I would have thought “mind numbing” speeds were like 50kbs.

@Crunch. Are you asking about a 4G network, it doesn’t exist yet in the L.A. area, they just announced it to launch by the end of 2010. If you mean in general, the coverage is great up to 3G throughout all of the L.A., Orange County, Inland Empire, and even most of San Diego County (except the extreme rural areas of San Diego County mountains). I use my cell and mobile broadband all over with great service.

what about San diego it sucks that im paying the 10 dallars for the 4g service and im not getting it and dont even know when its ever goin to come to san diego ..

  • cyb

Wheres the 4G in san diego? Its WIMAX already shouldnt take this long.

Their official policy is you pay the 10 dollars a month extra whether you have service in your area or NOT. BOGUS!

I was at the corporate launch of Sprints EVDO launch party on the USS Midway aircraft carrier here in San Diego and i’m shocked we don’t have 4g yet. What gives???

It would seem to me Sprint is guilty of false advertising. I call and quiz phone support techs and local salespeople who have no idea when it will arrive ANYWHERE. I am currently in Phoenix (no 4G) having left Las Vegas (Massive 4G presence) and I am suffering greatly. I have two Sprint 4G phones for no reason at all. The roll out is taking much longer than they will tell you while they are trying to sell new hardware. BUYER BEWARE!!!

    Inland Empire… WERE ALL WAITING
