11:55 AM: We’re here!  I have to be honest, I live in a 1000 square-foot apartment and have closets bigger than the room this press event is being held in, but hey…big things come in small rooms?

11:57 AM: Liftoff is at 12:15 PT so sit tight.

12:03 PM: They have an HTC HD2 here to entertain us…why not a few pics…

BGR_IMG_3799_CTIA_Day1_Key

12:04 PM: Screen is hot, flash support is hot. Phone in general is hot.

12:05 PM: T-Mobile representative just said, “new toys, and an enhanced network.” Let’s get this thing going!

12:15 PM: Speaking today: Cole Brodman, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer and Neville Ray, Senior VP Engineering & Operations.

12:19 PM: Starting up. Cole Brodman is speaking first. Subjects are mobile broadband and devices.

12:20 PM: T-Mo user base is very young, send way more text messages than any other network. Average 650/user. Over 1-billion sent on New Year’s Day alone.

12:21 PM: Neville is up, talking about high speed network roll-out.

12:21 PM: 2G covers 96% of America, 47,000 cell sites, 3G covers over 200 million Americans, “most modern 3G network of any carrier” those are their words, not ours.

12:23 PM: Talking about HSPA+ deployment, claiming that the T-Mo HSPA+ clocked speeds faster than Clearwire’s 4G network.

12:25 PM: Who has HSPA+ (and the necessary backhaul) New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, Washington DC, Las Vegas Strip area (how convenient) and coming soon to LA.

12:25 PM: Over 100 metro areas will be covered by HSPA+ by the end of 2010. “Nobody is coming close to that reach at these speeds at this rate.”

12:28 PM: The HSPA+ upgrade is basically a software upgrade due to how late the T-Mo 3G network was deployed.  “HSPA+ will rival the speeds to LTE.”

12:28 PM: Rolling out new 3G services in new spectrum purchased several years ago.

12:29 PM: Telstra in Australia has a HSPA+ network running at 42Mb/s.

12:31 PM: Cole is back on.  Some fun stats: in U.S. 1 in 5 households are mobile only. 60% of T-Mo customers choose 3G smartphones. Average Android smartphone user on T-Mo uses 20x more data than a regular smartphone user.

12:33 PM: ANNOUNCEMENT: Launching first netbook with partner Dell.  Dell Mini 10 with Windows 7 Starter Edition and N450 Processor. Will be HSPA+ capable and allow for up to 8-hours of continuous usage. Will be available tomorrow in several cities: LA, Dallas, Miami, and Chicago.

12:35 PM: Three new smartphones launching tomorrow: Nokia Nuron, HTC HD2, and CLIQ XT. We’ve gone over all these, we’re not going to beat you to death with the specifications.

12:39 PM: “Most robust lineup of Android devices.”

12:40 PM: Trying to match great value with unmatched services. Network footprint, voice/data plans, and customer service.

12:46 PM: The formal announcements have ended.  We’ve moved onto Q&A.

12:47 PM: We’re bouncing.  Sprint event is next at 1:30 PT.  See you then!

verizon has the ugliest phones ever plus you cant even take your phone internationally thats why GSM is the best

      • Joe B.

GSM is better internationally but America is Pre Dominantly CDMA and the GSM Wireless carrier’s have piss-poor networks to show off because of that. AT&T’s 3G network is a joke and T-Mobile’s is a worse joke. And Verizon does have international phones you’re just limeted to specific models. My Blackberry Tour can be used anywhere in the world. If I have to pick between a good network in America where I live or a good network in Asia/Europe and the like naturally I’ll pick the better service here.

  • Hey!

What the hey? No comments? I guess I’m… ahem, the only one. :) (dare not say the other word…)

I guess because its nothing we didn’t expect. I wonder if any carriers are going to talk about WP7?

  • ~phel

Andrew, it’s t-mo. You of all people should know their credit wasn’t good enough to get a large room! lol ;)

    • The Drizzle

hahaha Tmobile sucks Step up your credit score and get a better carrier

    • StevenGlansburg(The Real One)

      BURNNNNN!!!

    • Tripod

      You, sir, are an idiot.

    • Drew

Wow, so De La Vega (AT&T) needed a big ass room to tell you abso-fuckin-lutely nothing about nothing!!! That works, huh?? Who gives a gnats ass how big the room is if you’ve got nothing to spew. Upgrade your network, take Luke Wilson off the fuckin’ payroll and for God sakes release some Android handsets with some punch…

  • Deigo

No word on Palm coming to TMO?

  • recon

So,, since you have/had the HD2 version in hand, can you confirm its HSPA+ capable?

  • Jody bissoon

Given the list of current phones from T-Mobile I have no choise but to get the HD2.

crack rabbits – i’m lacing them carrots

  • AusFest

I’m so glad I’m on Verizon. We had the first DROID and always the best network. Suck it poor boys.

    • Vought American

Funny, how much did you pay for that Droid that came out 1 year after the first Android phones on T-mobile? How much again? And here is silly me about to drop 4 bills on a non-contracted HD2. I guess I am poor.

    • mingkee

Isn’t it funny? I saw a guy signed up at corp store and got Cliq. He had Droid in hand and I asked him how does he like it. His answer is: I hate Droid, Cliq is better.

    • eddy_p

ur an idiot tmobile came out with the first andriod phone dumbass and they have the widest selection of android phones so shut the hell up

    • bugs_b

if ur goin to talk about android get ur facts straight plz android was on tmobile first and we still have the best android phones

  • Gina D

Looks like the Verizon trolls are in full force today. Funny how they have to troll T-Mobile discussions in order to spread FUD.

You can keep your fat Droid bricks and slow (non simultaneous voice/data capable)EVDO network. ;-)

Verizon’s network is great for all those in remote cow towns, but for the rest of us in populated areas there are better priced services that work just fine.

    • DJ Megatron

Probably because most of the VZW trolls are working for the company.

    • mingkee

Man, VZW is the most stingy cellular company, period.
Remember who did mandate “dreaded 5GB” for data card first?
      It’s VZW.

  • Anonymous

    Haters gonna hate.

  • Gina D

Verizon really has nothing better to offer those who have other choices in wireless telecommunications. Not all of us live in South Dakota or Montana.

    Verizon does offer higher prices.
    Verizon does offer Skype! Yay!
Verizon does offer CDMA only Droids!
Verizon has committed to less red striped user interfaces.
Verizon does offer the fastest brainwashing programs available on the web today.
Verizon has a big red map for all of us who don’t need all that coverage but are forced to subsidize it anyways

  • Jason

You forgot: Verizon also offers $350 ETF’s and forced data plans for dumb phones.

Somebody has to pay for all those DROID ads! American customers are suckers.

Glad to be on the informed side of technology.

    • Joe B.

AT&T requires $20 of data on their 3G phones now and Sprint also now requires data plans on more of their non-smartphones as well. So it ain’t just Verizon. And sure T-Mobile is cheaper, but you get what you pay for in terms of network reliability and coverage areas.

  • http://twitter.com/therickyrescue Ricky

Wow that’s it? I’ve been with T-Mobile since 2004 so don’t call me a hater, but that was pathetic.

  • john

Wow. That was worthless. What about the damn phones? Where’s the Desire, X10, Streak, etc. for the US? US TMO sucks my left…. And I’m a long time customer.

    • Vought American

Well to be honest, not trying to defend T-mo, but just saying… At&t had very little to say as well. I think 2010 is going to be an inbetween year. The biggest news anybody could possibly break is if the iPhone is going anywhere else.

    • mingkee

iPhone is NOT everything, and I won’t ever get it even it’s sold by T-Mobile USA or Sprint.

  • 3 Phones Jugglin

Dear T-Mobile….The HTC EVO by itself is the most Robust Lineup of Android Phones.

  • Deeko

Why are people so down on this announcement? The HSPA+ news is pretty big – how many people will have speeds greater than 7Mbps on other networks in 2010? Sprint has some with WiMax, but not as many.

Also, T-Mobile always has good phones. They had the first Android phone on the market. They were the first US carrier to get the Touch Pro 2 and HD2. They typically have better Nokia options than other US carriers. The Galaxy S announced today could very well make it to T-Mobile.

    • mingkee

Not to mention that T-Mobile has reliable 3G network in NYC, which is always trusted.

  • mingkee

    It’s T-Mobile style.
Does anybody notice the phone lineup has been changed recently?
TP2, HD2, Nexus One (sold by Google), N900 (unlocked), and all the Android goodies.
The lineup is much more balanced now.
The only thing I hate is money. I wish I have enough money to buy all of them :(

  • JFA

    i can’t wait for HSPA+.

as for the phones, the HD2 is pretty big.

I just hope T-Mobile picks up the Motoroi (as its rumored to hit the states) the X10 is pretty much out of the question now i guess.

  • Chut Pata

T-Mobile is innovative and have the best plans. They also have good phones althought not as good as T-Mobile Europe. However their coverage is crappy second only to Metro PCS. I was inclined to go to AT&T because they are GSM. However Verizon offered me 15 trial and during that period I found coverage from high rises to abandoned valleys. Plus Verizon offered me what no other company offered, a plan that includes Canada!

  • Android Plz

Please ask when the F we are going to get a 1ghz Android phone in the stores. They keep saying “most android phones”. Why not be honest and say “We have the shittiest android phones, but we have a lot of them”.

N1 does not count since it’s google only and nobody qualifies for upgrade pricing.
