AT&T announces the Dell Aero is coming soon

It’s been a long time coming, but Dell and AT&T are finally readying themselves to release that long, long rumored Android smartphone in the US. AT&T’s website is contains a promo page for the Dell Aero, a handset which is really just a slightly upgraded version of the Mini 3i (or rather Mini 3ix) that’s long been available in China. So far AT&T hasn’t thrown too many specs out there, but from AT&T’s website and what we’ve heard, we’re looking at a 3.5″ nHD 360×640 display, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, aGPS, 3G, support for Microsoft Exchange and a new UI skin. Of course whether the Aero will be running Android 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 or 2.1 is the question of the day, but with CTIA officially kicking off today, we don’t think we’re going to have to wait too long to get all the answers to our burning questions.

the only android that matters is the supersonic!! Fuck everythingelse

    • ken

hmmmm. the supersoninc, which will run on sprints 4g network, which is gonna be wimax, which no other carrier in the world is going to support… so it won’t even fall back on verizons evdo rev a… oh wait it is also evdo compatible? you still can’t use verizon’s fastest spectrum when roaming, which in my area is 90% of the time. save your money and frustration and go with a nexus one when they come out on your network.

      • ~phel

ken you may want to do some research before you state that Sprint is the only carrier in the world to support wimax. Here I’ll help you a bit http://www.wimaxmaps.org/

        cheers

Hmmm…at first glance it seemed okay until I found out it’s running Android…pass.

  • blah

If @Michael Bettiol is at CTIA, maybe he can ask if this will be locked down like the Moto BackFlip.

    It looks very… outdated.

I mean, i see a proximity sensor (?) above the earpiece, but the shape – it just looks half ass.

    Maybe its just me.

Not much you can do with a bar phone, they all are going to be similar in some way.

OK, Dell’s out of the list of potential Palm buyers…

  • betchplz

What I thought it was, was another LG or Samsung vanilla touch screen phone.. doesn’t look like Android at all which isn’t necessarily a good thing.

  • mi_canuck

typical Dell piece of shit… crap hardware, old looking gui, totally polluted with Dell’s shit… what else would you expect from a shitty texas hardware maker combined with a texas owned carrier… double kaka….

    • T-Monster

A Canuck making fun of a Texan?

I will pass on this phone and the supersonic. I will wait for windows 7 phones. Microsoft is back and they are going to be hard to stop. Wait, watch, and see!

  • IT&T

It’s no DROID. Maybe if it were on Verizon I would consider it as a back up phone. I just hate Apple and the iphone so much.

    • The Drizzle

      And the Iphone hates you

    • T-Monster

You stoled my name. Whats the point in having a phone collection on cdma,, they have to activate it everytime you want to use a different phone. I just pop in my sim like the rest of world and can use my phone in the rest of the world.

    • ..!

nd iihm pretty sure iiht doesnt liike yhu eiither..!

    @IT

  • Darryl Vaughn

Wow, people on phone sites are not very optomistic when it comes to new AT&T phones. I like it. :)

    • MikeD

On here its anything not Android.

    • T-Monster

The backflip pretty much told us how the other 4 (android ?) phones are going to be. and as long as apple is calling the shots they will never have anything that can compete.

When you say “made my ass laugh” does that me he made you fart?

  • TJ

There’s something you don’t see everyday an AT&T phone with full 3G bars it must be confused to think it has full service maybe that’s why the times off…

    • BBFTW

I’ve had AT&T for 6 years, living in rural Oklahoma, Houston TX, and Washington DC. I’ve had Motorola 551, multiple Sony Ericssons, 3 Blackberrys, and I always have full bars at home and work.

Perhaps when you move out of your mom’s basement you’ll get some reception.

      • ALHC

LMAO that was a good one ..

  • T-Monster

This was co designed by at&t and dell, it going to be just like the backflip. full of at&t apps that can not be deleted. yahoo, search etc, all the revised at&t phones will be the same. at&t will have their finger prints on all of them

  • GeneralZod

AT&T will definitely cripple this phone.

Actually — I would really like to know who made the widget on the bottom. I would love a single widget that had missed calls, messages, etc.

  • Jim

    Android huh…I’ll pass.
