Sprint to rollout Android 2.1 to the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment in April?

As part of its internal announcement for the upcoming Nexus One, Sprint addresses the upgrade options for its current crop of Android handsets. Eager HTC Hero and Samsung Moment owners may want to take note as the document informs employees, and now the general public thanks to this leak, that Sprint is actively working on the Android 2.1 update for these two handsets. Interested parties should expect additional information in April which hopefully will take the form of an OTA update and not another promise of imminent delivery. Though we realize that these are three different companies involved, excuse us if we are still a bit skeptical.

        Dbag if i am not mistaken Sprint actually has more towers then verizon. when i find the link i will repost. yes we have roaming agreements but thats in the outmost rural areas. and if u ask any Sprint customer they say they hardly roam, so go troll elsewhere. Oh and verizon sucks they over charge and rip off there customers.

        pretty sure Sprint had enough towers that they sold em to another company with the agreement that said company would LEASE those towers to Sprint. I’m an ex employee of Sprint myself. HOWEVER, Verizon was (probably still IS) leasing a good percentage of their towers from Sprint for the better part of the last ten years.

        Too bad half of Verizon’s map is such poor quality you might as well not even have service… oh and you have to pay about twice as much per month to have that crap service… Verizon = fail.

        Oh yes…. Verizon regularly drops calls and data is slow as hell at my house, and especially at my parents house AND my girlfriends parents cottage… hell sometime at their houses the service is so terrible that your phone won’t even ring if someone calls you. But yet the coverage map is all red showing full service AND 3G broadband at all of those locations… Verizon is full of SHIT!

    I’ve had 2.1 for awhile. Got sick of waiting for the official push from VZW. I highly recommend people with Android phones do some hacking. Waiting for the carriers has gotten old.

    Am i the only one messin with a cdma network(Sprint) that is very annoyed at not being able to talk and surf at the same time?… coming from att i never knew how annoying it would turn out to be. Thats the only reason im less looking forward to the supersonic and more to the desire on att… I would mess with the hd2 but even though i got love for gsm, tmobile doesnt quite cut it.

      Supersonic should be able to. Dual radios: CDMA for voice, 3G/4G for data. Both could work simultaneously. Sprint should definitely mention this over and over again at CTIA. I know they will for the built in VoIP capability for the device. Most likely, a 3rd party deal with someone.

      Really? I don’t even understand what the point of this is. I guess if I need to look something up while I’m talking to someone I’m usually near a computer, but if I wasn’t putting someone on speakerphone while I surf doesn’t sound all that cool.

    I’m not sure how the dual band will work on the Supersonic…..it wouldbe nice to surf on 4G and talk on 3G at the same time.

    Sprint is the Now Dead Network. Who even uses Sprint? Just blacks and welfare recipients. When you get a real job, can pay for your own health care, or decide to move up in society come on down to Verizon wireless and get a real phone like the DROID.

    @Jack. You can talk and surf ( don’t know why you’d want to) if you are in a wifi area. Just turn on widow and problem solved. Or you can wait for 4g. Never used it myself, most people I talk to are informed of any topics we discuss while on the phone.

    @TypicalVerizonDBAG u seriously need to STFU. People are happy with whateverworks for them. I have Sprint and also Verizon for work. They both work fine although Verizon data is slower (and this is in Manhattan). anyways UR A SICK S.O.B go back to jai.

    Ok here’s my two cents on this. Verizon has the most coverage but not a strong network in terms of giving enough bars. ATT has a strong network in giving bars but can drop data connection. Sprint is in between the two. If Sprint releases the legend for 99 nexus for 179 and supersonic for 229 tomorrow consider it a huge win and year for sprint. Cheaper plans better coverage in terms of reliability. The 49 million customers are going to increase by at least 20 million by next March.

    TypicalVZWass, tell us more about how vzw already has 2.1 on both their Android devices right now. Tell us how they have a bigger 3G map in the works for a nationwide launch next quarter with a phone to boot. I hope your skin-head thoughts are not representative of the asses that do work in the store and on the phones. That would explain their superior attitude.
