Ever wanted to treat a friend or loved one to an awesome paid app in the iTunes App Store but didn’t feel like going through the hassle of either sending them a gift card or sending them some cash? If so, you’ll surely be pleased to know today Apple quietly added a “Gift This App” button to the purchase menu in the desktop version of the App Store. Charged directly to your credit card, all that you are required to do is enter in the name and email address of recipient and away you go. Of course we wouldn’t be all that excited about this if it were possible to use gift cards towards purchases in the App Store, but, you know, Apple is “special” in this respect.

    Waiting for the haters…..

yay …I guess this could be useful if you only wanted to gift a certain app but I don’t really see this picking up too much.

but then again only having to commit to a one or two dollar app is better than having to buy a whole 15 dollar iTunes giftcard.

Hallmark’s going to sue Apple now.

I think this is a great idea. Apple’s App store is the best and totally kills Androids. I may have a Droid lodged up my ass, but deep down inside I envy and love the iphone!

    Wow, about time!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY for Apple news. My day is complete.

Since Verizon and Apple will be announcing the 4G Verizon Wireless exclusive iphone this week at CTIA this week, this is great news. More greatness and value from VZW, I’m so hard for that map right now.

being an apple user, this is good news. with the success of the app store, I’m surprised this was not done sooner. hard to believe there no hater comments yet.

Apple has better blog updates than BGR. I can’t wait to gift apps and worship at my iMac altar.

Wow, my clones are at it again. A following I am definately creating. Your parents are surely swolen with pride over the leader-in-life status you have refused to take. Congrats, follower.

I am totally game for this feature… Especially with the iPad launching! I know I have a few people I work with that won’t pay the $30 for the iWork Suite on the iPad with my company, so I’ll just ‘Gift’ it for them to they have it! Plus it’ll be a business write off… :-)

    • T-Monster

As a taxpayer, Im thrilled to know that you can take my hard earned money and put it in steve jobs pocket. I guess that congress is affraid he will sue them too.

      • FunkyG

You don’t really understand how tax works do you?

If this is claimed as a business write off it just means the company will pay that much less in tax as it’s a business expense.

It doesn’t mean other tax payers money is being used.

  • Mj

Yay now all the apple nerds can gift themselves apps and pretend someone loves them

    • T-Monster

      Awesome:)

    • T-Monster

Yep, Uncle Steve sent himself a whole bunch this morning.

  • MobileGuru

Yes because we all need those app gifts since theres a bigger ipad comming out! Oh joy!…I rather them give me the money.

  • DaHarder

    Are these ‘gifts’ returnable?

  • Patrick Moto Droid

So do you get your money back if you gift an app to someone and they already have the app? I mean, who can keep up with other peoples apps, let alone their own. Between the my Droid and the iPod touch I give up. That being said I wouldn’t turn down a gifted app from a friend.

  • Ken

    Ummm…is that Michael Jackson?

    • ATari&T

It’s Michael Jackson starring in the new Apple version of Pitfall. Instead of crocodiles, you leap over children as they attempt to bite you…
