T-Mobile HD2 and Nuron confirmed for the 24th, CLIQ XT will be cheaper than thought

T-Mobile already has a very diverse lineup of smartphones, but the tail end of March will see “Magenta” (as some people lamely call it) release a trio of smartphones that appeal to the low, mid and high end markets. We’ve been saying it for the longest time and now it’s as official as can be without a full-blown press release: the HTC HD2 will be available from T-Mobile on Wednesday, March 24th. Going for $199.99 on a 2-year or $449.99 outright, the HD2 will easily be the best handset ever offered by T-Mobile in terms of sheer brawn. Of course now that we’re 100% certain it won’t be upgradeable to Windows Phone 7 Series, we have to wonder if a bit of the luster has prematurely worn off, but it’s not like those put off don’t have more than half a year to save pennies for the next greatest Windows Phone. On the same day, Nokia will also have a handset debut on T-Mobile. This is of course the Nuron and it will go for $69.99 / $179.99, a price that is quite mind blowing when you consider the fact it’s running S60 5th Edition. Last but not least in today’s T-Mobile update is the CLIQ XT. We’ve known for quite some time it is going to be available in time to drown in a pitcher of green beer, but now we’re hearing it will be $99.99 on contract as opposed to $129.99 (no contract pricing is presumed to still be set at $329.99).

Good job, T-Mobile.

      agree. go t mo

  • Nokia??

Who the fuck would want to buy a Nokia Symbian device over HD2 :D

Wouldn’t take it even if it was free of charge.

    • http://www.maemo-freak.com christexaport

I would. One is less than half the price of the other, part of the larger Symbian/Maemo/MeeGo app ecosystem coming soon to TVs and set top boxes, sports an open OS, a Flash enabled first party browser, free worldwide voice navigation, better resource efficiency, and aside from lacking WiFi, the cheaper device meets or exceeds the HD2 in every feature.

Someone needs to remind the US readership that some people still can’t afford a $80 a month service contract, a $200 device, or mounds of apps. Choosing the value priced option is a choice many Americans are ready to make. MetroPCS and Leap can’t be wrong. The Nuron is an introductory device, and fills an entirely different need than an HD2.

But some say “why get x instead of y?” Because not everyone wants a BMW, they make both Hondas and Rolls Royces. Different strokes for different folks. The HD2 is big, expensive, runs an closed system, and has a crappy cam and speakers. If any of that is an issue for you, the Nuron may be a good alternative.

A rep told me this last week and let me play wit one better then iphone and about the same as the droid and a lil beheind the nexus in speed over wifi awesome screen tho

  • TypicalVerizonDBAG

Why would anyone want any of these phones? First, none of them are the DROID and if you aren’t on Verizon you are either ghetto or poor.

    • Batman

If your not ghetto or poor, you ot to be. Go get yourself a Droid.

JUNK FOR A JUNKIE NETWORK. WHO USES T MOBILE ANYMORE?

    • TypicalVerizonDBAG

just minorities and people in section 8 housing…you know people denied from Sprint

      • betchplz

Actually.. they’re pretty much the same, Sprint will approve anyone with $100 and T-Mobile will take anyone on Flexpay Monthly

    • mingkee

I don’t know who says T-Mobile network is junk?
Their 3G network is fast and reliable. It’s better than Sprint, much more better ATT, in NYC.

  • betchplz

Who the F cares about Windows Phone 7, it’s months out from being ready to go. Can we just drop it already..

    • mingkee

WP7 is NOT for me. It’s reported some essential functions are excluded:
install application manually or from memory card
      multi-tasking
      copy and paste (rumored)
      backward-compatible with previous applications.

In fine, WP7 sucks. I’d stick with WM6.5/WP6.5 till M$ realize they made a grave mistake on WP7.

  • webby

Great! I don’t give a rat’s a** about a Windows Mobile phone, but now I can go look at the HD2 because it is the same form factor and screen size as the HTC Supersonic slated for Sprint will be. I want to check it out to see if it’s too big for me pocketses.

  • lorenzo

i was at the tmobile store yesterday and i was able to use it for a little cuz the salesmen are being train to use it lol buy it

  • http://www.maemo-freak.com christexaport

And the HD2 runs WinMo6, so it will be compatitble with Nokia’s Qt code. Maybe Nokia can make an Ovi Store for WinMo6 with all of the new Qt apps from Symbian and Maemo/MeeGo. Looks like Microsoft ditched Qt in the latest CE kernel, but WinMo6 still uses the old kernel.

  • StevenGlansburg

    T Mobile will prevail!!!

  • Sean

Why do you make fun of the website you got this story from? Ugh.

  • Hoppysport

Was at the T-Mobile Store on 23rd & Fifth in Manhattan. The lead rep allowed me to play with her HD2, and wow, I am impressed. What a solid piece of equipment.

The screen was gorgeous and responsive. The phone was quick, snappy, and intuitive.

Hey, I’ve been with T-Mobile since the Voicestream days, and am not going anywhere. Sure Verizon is has great coverage in the sticks, but 99% of my life is in the city, not the sticks.

I will throw down my $199 and enjoy. I can get a full upgrade in a bit over a year and buy whatever the next great handset is at that time. Oh, and I bet I can sell this phone for the price that I paid within 18 months. Nothing wrong with that.

    • Bert

I agree!!!! 99% of the time T-Mobile got me covered and I am fine with that!

Who cares about 100% is you will pay way more, right???

    • mingkee

I have been with T-Mobile for 7 years. Now their 3G network is rather reliable and fast (average 2Mbps in).
I wish T-Mobile is liberal as in the past though.

    Sigh…..I want the HD2, but I already have TP2, Pharos 137, and N900.
The ONLY problem on HD2 is battery, 1230mA/h can hardly survive in 3-4 hours heavy use under 3G.
BTW, I got a notification that I have to send 137 back involuntarily for replacement.

  • Ric

Heads up, the Nokia Nuron only requires $10 phone first web. thats a $20 saving a month just for internet. Browser is excellent and touch screen is very responsive. Think of a tmobile tap/highlight that doesn’t suck.
