Yet another round of BlackBerry slider pics

And just like that, today we have the third photo leak of the mysterious BlackBerry slider. Unlike the first time we saw it but much like the second, the device has been placed next to a Curve 8900 for the sake of a size comparison. On its side the slider is noticeably thicker than the 8900 , but today it has been turned on its side in order to let us know exactly how thick this sucker is. What this device is actually called is anyone’s guess, but the general consensus is that this is not the Storm3. So what then is it? Lately a rumor has been floating around that it is actually a Bold owing to its identical styling queues to the current Bold 9700. Adding to this rumor is a UAProf found on RIM’s website for a 9700a that lists a portrait HVGA+ display (as opposed to the Bold 9700′s landscape HVGA+ display) and this all seems rather possible. Of course dealing with prototypes things can and will change as needed, so it looks like we’re going to have to twiddle our thumbs a little while longer until some more information comes to light. Hit the jump for a pic of device’s rear sans battery cover showing off its brand new F-S1 battery.

On the subject of ui’s, the only ui’s worth talking about is anything that htc gets their hands on and webos. Also stock androids are cool too. Iphones ui is just as boring as BB.

can we get a ban or something on those assholes posting “this comment has been disliked” links? get a life idiot

  • mangenius

Why the fuck did I get -’s for!? I am a BB fan just not a slider fan.. Damn you guys are a pack of wolves quick to click the -

    • ~phel

The fastest way to get – is to complain about -….or do the 1st thing…

I have the Storm and my 2 year contract is up this Nov.
If the Storm3 is a slider phone, I will be getting the new iPhone.

Storm, if you slide, I’m sliding over to Apple.

In regards to UI’s… I’ve handled the Droid,IPhone,HTC phones (various models) at phone stores and I wasn’t impressed as others on BGR are over the UI’s out there.

I prefer a more functional (boring for some) and solid UI that does it’s job well. I’m just not into multi-media usage on my phone ( Sorry folks ). I have a question…How do these UI’s actually improve phone calls & E-mail ?

I’ve used BB’s in the past and I never obsessed over the phone’s UI because it works, and that’s all that matters.

BB should keep on satisfying their users and not the latest fashion whim…

    • RJ

sadly i agree. the functional ones like blackberries and sidekicks (back when they worked well) were my preferences.. honestly i like how much my droid can do, but with the complications of all the apps on it and the ui, it makes the experience less fun than a simple one.

    • Bass

I agree. I didn’t mean to say that bb’s ui is boring, just that so many people here seem to look at phones through tunnel vision. My point is as simple as bb’s ui seems, the iphone is even simpler. Function for me is what matters most. The only things I want more from BB is a webkit and more memory.

  • matt

dammit it looks like they put the charging and headphone jacks in a crappy place again. that’s part of the reason i returned my tour =

They have to work hard to stay on top with android players in market

  • Badgepacker

BB needs a side slider, with a decent capacitive touch screen.

  • loumacuser

This looks like an improvement and i agree with the comment about location of ports. Not ideal on neither my Storm2 not my wife’s Tour. The UI in OS 5 is good. My main issue is reliability of the product – particularly the Storms. Also, having used at least 15 BBs over the past 5 years, I have yet to have one last a year without a failure requiring replacement. Improving application design and function to compete better is nice, improving reliability is a must have now.

    I am a for iPhone user. This is my 5th BB Storm (3 – Storm 1, 2 Storm2)

Is it me or Blackberry needs some new designers? All their phones look the same. I’ve never seen a good looking Blackberry phone. They’re all ugly.

    • Michael_J

      It must just be you.

  • Ben

Whats all this talk about “UGLY”? who gives a rats ass if a phone is ugly? it’s a tool not a fasion statement unless your some 16 year old in school with “Bling” all over your phone, function is what really matters not how good you look to others while talking or texting on your phone.

    • Dro

So I guess your girlfriend/wife is an ugly. Fool. The advantage of having a good design is to attract ain’t it? So Blackberry need to come up with some better designs to attract more than the business users because guess what? Android and Windows mobile would take there market share soon. People need variety and spice. Not this piece of junk excuse for a phone. Their designs look the same to their very first phone. It’s 2010 damn it!!

      • Mark Texas

Umm did you see the Windows Mobile 7 designs? Not exactly ground breaking. Also I’m thinking the 4th iPhone will look exactly like every other iPhone.

A previous poster nailed it – pretty much every smartphone design has been done. From a ergonomical / functional perscpective there is only so much you can do.

If RIM can refresh their UI with a little polish and the webkit browser equals other devices they will take a major step giving people the core things they care about. I know people think mobile “apps” are the next big thing but adoption of said apps is really low. As long as the key apps are across every devices consumers will go with what their preferred carrier offers and fits their budget.

The one thing people forget is RIM offers devices for a variety of preference. I had a Droid and the thing was a huge brick, nice screen but by far the heaviest device I ever used.

The 9700 is pretty much my perfect device, if they offer that in a slider with a good touch screen on front .. it will sell like crazy.

      • Dro

Windows Mobile is an OS which would be made available for every manufacturer just like Android. So your point if I’ve seen the Windows 7 phones yet is pointless. That’s the beauty about Android and Windows. People have more options to choose from. While Apple, Palm, & Blackberry are the only ones making phones for their OS’s. So!! What you think is gonna be the deciding factor for people? Don’t even talk about the app market because more companies involved equal more apps. Apple is leading now but Android would catch up soon at the rate they’re going. If the 9700 is your perfect phone then fine. But you call the Droid a brick? its has a slide out qwerty and is thinner than the 9700, and yes its heavy because its made from high quality metals and not cheap plastic like the 9700. The size of the Droid is to accommodate the huge screen which makes it possible to read emails properly. I wont even go into the performance and specs. Both phones are in two different categories. It’s unfair to compare.

      • Michael_J

“Also I’m thinking the 4th iPhone will look exactly like every other iPhone.”

Well, we all now know that’s not true! :D

      • Michael_J

Droid phones are some of the ugliest devices on the market. The UI is good, that must be where the design budget ran out, nothing left over for the housing.

  • Jericho

you people can complain about the BB all you want but when it comes right down to it, The blackberry is by far the best business option. Its not the droid, its not an Iphone, its not meant to be a toy. It was designed for the customer who needs to take the office with them. Maybe if you bought the right phone for what you want to do you wouldn’t have so much to complain about. The only complaints i ever hear are from people who want a mobile toy that can do a million things.

Personally I’ll will take a droid over the bb anyday, but thats because I don’t need a mobile office, or an international phone.

honestly people give respect where respect is do even if its not the best for what you want you can’t deny the fact that it deserves some respect for being able to serve its purpose almost flawlessly.

So your screen name taken from nearly 20 years ago makes you feel fresh and new?
