Verizon already training some employees on Nexus One?

Exclusive

verizon-wireless-logo1

We don’t have a whole lot to go on, other than a couple of emails that were bounced around by some curious customers and some rather knowledgeable reps, but it certainly looks to us as if Verizon has begun training — at least some of its employees — on an EV-DO variant of the Google Nexus One. A tentative release date has not yet been communicated trough the chain of command, but apparently this sucker will be sold in Big Red’s retail stores across the country once it’s available. Again, this is about as confirmed (or unconfirmed) as it gets, and we’re merely passing it on to our readers because…well, we love you guys and gals to death. Don’t come kicking in our doors if it doesn’t exactly pan out.

Thanks Kappy!

Yes a vzw rep called it the droid nexus one keepin it in the droid line of phones I’m not sure if its gona be just nexus one or droid nexus one but that’s what I was told

    • StevenGlansburg

the typical verizon customer is an idiot and thinks Android is Droid. So if it just said Verizon capable Nexus One a Verizon customer’s head may spontaneously combust with confusion.

      • Jimmie Holloway

Good ole Steve! Guess they didn’t like you today though, I knew one day the VZW comments would catch up to you.

  • bizguy

I’ve been patiently waiting for the Nexus One to drop at Verizon. Soooooo tired of my BB Curve. hehehe

    • http://tylerlane.net/ Tyler Lane

@bizguy same with me and my pearl. I was waiting for either the Nexus One or the Iphone to come to verizon, whichever comes first

      • Smel

The web browsing is pathetic on my curve…can’t wait to ditch it

      • http://tylerlane.net/ Tyler Lane

@smel: yeah makes you wonder why you pay the extra money for the data package at times huh? lol

My first pearl died on me in january. I was in the best buy parking lot ready to buy a droid. But that was the day they announced the nexus one and said it would be coming to verizon. So i bought another cheap pearl off of ebay until the nexus one comes out for verizon.

      • presto

I hate my pearl. i am getting so close to getting a kickass phone

      • jiggamanvzw

The reason why you all don’t like your phones is because majority of a lot of “CONSUMERS” try to use their blackberry’s as if it’s a reg. computer which that’s not what it’s used for!!! Customer’s these days forgot what phones are used for!! & that’s why pplz phones tend to break within a couple months after getting their new phone at 2yrs upgrade and then can’t get a new one and then they start to cry and escalate just because their phone breaks especially (i.e. when a person’s keypad falls off they say its not their fault! well guess one get insurance and pay the deductible… Customer’s tend to go over on a lot of carriers.. ask other carriers, they all work the same as Verizon, Tmobile, Sprint, ATT etc…

      • http://www.edoubleclicks.com John Green

same happen on me. you are not only one in this boat

      • Desert Dweller

Nexus One will come first. Google already announced a Verizon and Vodafone version way back when it announced the Nexus One. You can still sign up to be notified at google.com/phone

    • eazid

I agree. My curve 8330 has served me well, but it’s time to move on.

  • mettec

I hate VZW store employee’s that act clueless to a new device coming out. Went to a store yesterday and asked the rep when the HTC incredible was to be released he said “What’s an Incredible”? When asked him about the Nexus One and said the Devour is the next Android phone to be released. He then said the Nexus One is at least 3 months away cause they usually do training 2 months ahead of time. What a bunch of crock! Now him saying that does lead me to believe that the Nexus One will be in Verizon Stores as stated.

    • StevenGlansburg

they also tell everyone they are getting the iphone tomorrow. complete idiots.

    • DuDe254

I think its safe to say that the majority of store reps dont really have any idea when anything is coming out until its officially announced, or maybe a week or two ahead of time. So you cant hold it against him that just because he doesnt spend his time on tech blogs researching everything for not knowing anything about a phone that hasnt been officially released yet.

    • Menno

Actually, those kinda things are under NDA, if a rep gives out information before it is announced, they risk their job.

You customers are the idiots for trying to get proprietary information from reps. Getting it from Boygenius is one thing because the sources are anonymous. But it’s wholly different when you’re talking to the person face to face.

Maybe you should stop and think for a bit before you call another rep a moron for doing their job.

    • _Aurel_

Maybe its because they’re being paid to sell what they have and not pie in the sky bullshit. Their paycheck depends on it. If you want to talk about rumors and bullshit, stick to the forums otherwise let people in the store do their job and stop whining about it.

  • haha

    @mettec
The rep wasn’t “acting” clueless. He is!

“Now him saying that does lead me to believe that the Nexus One will be in Verizon Stores as stated.”
    …Now that is a reach!
A rep who knows nothing, says nothing, leads you to believe he is hiding something, must be the Nexus One!!

    ….rolls eyes

This is how retarded rumors get started!

    • mettec

What I believe is that the store reps know and if they leak anything out they will be terminated and maybe even real action brought against them. Is there any former VZW sales people on here that can verify that?

      • Semi Constructive Criticism

or they are just as clueless as the rest of us. i know several people that worked for multiple companies and they didnt know anything about new phones coming out until its been announced. and i went to verizon today and the Rep didnt know how to delete a call from your call log on the Moto Droid. he told the guy he was talking to on the phone that you couldnt and i had to show the Rep how to do it. i really dont think the reps know much about the phones out now let alone the potential phones coming out.

      • DuDe254

I worked in a retail store for ATT. In general we did not know anything before the general public did. After its officially announced is when we get all of the additional info. The ones that have all the information are our corporate execs that visit the store. Sometimes we can get additional info about upcoming phones and release, I was never told my job was at stake for sharing info, but the account execs probably are because they have a lot more inside info than we ever got.

  • mic

Yes this is how they get started, but I hate to say it but I believe it this time. I talked to one of my close friends VZW rep, and confirmed they are being trained and yes 23rd is date and yes will be in the stores not just online.

    IF

    1) the 3G connectivity problems are fixed
    2) the multi-touch problems are fixed (there is a free app called Multitouch Visible Test that shows the multi-touch issues on the Nexus One. The Droid does not have those problems)
    3) single touch is lined up properly, so you don’t have to touch above the virtual icons.
    4) you can see the screen in daylight

Then I will buy the Nexus One. Otherwise, I’ll stick with the Droid, as it is a very solid piece of Android hardware that has none of those problems.

    • Jimmie Holloway

      1. Not on T-mo and this is CDMA (totally differenct beast)
2.Thank for re-iterating every blog, but I don’t think Verizon would allow such a problem to just pass on by.
      3.read 2
4.Has nothing to do with the phone itself, that is a downfall of AOMLED.
      5. The Droid has a keyboard, which maybe you don’t know, but everyone doesn’t want, also in a year the guts of the Droid will be like the Hero (meaning it is barely making it with the advancements).
6.I don’t think you even have a Droid.
7.Learn a little more tech before you just start making up sh#t.

  • Kimberly

I hope the fix the nexus ones multi-touch problems if they get it…

  • Luke

LMFAO, The last VZ rep I talked to told me they would be getting the iPhone next month, and that at&t’s commercials where full of it because supposedly they have the fastest 3g network. I had to call him on his BS and let him know neither them nor at&t had the fastest 3g network T-Mobile does. Store reps don’t know anything.

  • underestimated

nexus one is a terrible phone, if you’ve already got a Droid – keep it.

  • http://nexuscellphone.com Stan

Can’t wait for Nexus One to be on Verizon.

  • matthew

This is interesting, but it does make wonder what’s going on the Google online store. I thought the devices carried there would only be sold online, like the Nexus One for T-Mobile. Add to that, there’s a lot of chatter about the HTC Incredible coming out. What’s the difference between the Nexus One and the Incredible? I think the rise of top-notch Android devices is interesting, but my excitement is dampened by some confusion about seemingly overlapping devices and inconsistent features.

    • Jimmie Holloway

The Incredible is almost like the Nexus except: it has 256mb of Ram vs 512mb(this is not confirmed yet), the Incredible is running “Sense UI” which allows multi-touch out the box, not to mention a better media player, exchange Integration out the box,. The Incredible, as far as we know will not have “Live Wallpaper, and OTA updates will be slower, cause you will need to wait for HTC to port a working version of Sense, with what ever version of Android comes out. Bottom line, there is good and bad points.

    • cjrson

My guess is that the Incredible and the N1 will both be sold in stores, but only the Incredible will be stocked in stores. In other words, while you might well be able to handle and demo an N1 in the store, you will probably not be walking out the door with one. My bet is that they will fill an order with Google’s online store and take a cut of the sale price. Google’s store gets more sales, VZ doesn’t have to waste money buying handsets and keeping inventory but still makes a profit, customer gets a subsidized N1. Win/Win/Win. Just a guess.

  • jimmy

If. A rep said anything about the nexus how would the get fired we all kno its comin to verizon in the spring the onlything is what date but for them to not know of the phone is bs just like the rep called it droid nexus one when I asked about it

    • mettec

A rep could be fired for leaking a date head of schedule or a rumored device that the general public has no clue that it is coming. They want to sell their Droid, Eris, and Devour until that can’t keep a newer device secret anymore. This is why there are many of us phone geeks that are in waiting for either the N1 or Incredible.

Its a simple matter of business. Here’s why!
I am a customer looking at a new phone, I have heard rumors of a N1 coming out that sounds like the coolest phone ever, ask salesman about it he says doesn’t know or says its months away. So he steers you towards the Droid instead cause his goal is to make sure you walk out of the store with a new phone. They want to sell you what they have not what they will have. These reps work on commission so of coarse they are going to act clueless to a upcoming device but they are probably also sworn to secrecy as well.

    • John

NOBODY KNOWS THE NAMES YET. “DROID” IS A VZ NAME FOR THE MEANTIME.. NOT STATING IS TRUE BUT THERE COULD BE A POSSIBILITY IT MIGHT BE CALLED DROID NEXUS TO MAKE IT APART FROM NEXUS FROM TMOBILE. JUST LIKE THAT MOTO DROID, ERIS IS ALSO CALLED DROID. DROID ERIS. MAYBE ITS NOT THE REP THAT DOESNT KNOW ITS THE IGNORANT CUSTOMER THAT BELIEVES HIS OWN BS..

  • jimmy

But what I’m sayin is we all know this phone is comin the. Spring all I asked is will it be in the store and he said yes there’s nothing to hide about that phone we all know about and so do the reps right know I’m using a droid and voyager for my second line and I’m getting this bad boy I just wana know ifs it gona be in the store to play wit it first after all the mixed reviews about it…. I just find it stupid most reps r like what’s a nexus one when the know damn well what is just like when I asked a rep about a vzw iphone know what he said …. what’s vzw iphone

  • http://BGR McLovin

The Iphone will never come to Verizon… move on. How long will Apple hold everyone who wants a decent carrier hostage? I am done waiting, getting a Nexus One. And buying a PC. Suck it Steve.

  • Fogle

im buying an imacbookphone bc i heard they are sweet with multitouch, invisibility cloak, and i heard you can fly with it

  • http://BGR McLovin

Apple stuff is great. But it pisses me off that nobody knows if they will break from AT&T. It’s like a bunch of Top Sider polo shirt, white short wearing yuppy boys sitting in the yacht club with a bunch of hot chicks and a keg of Stella, giving everyone outside the finger…..

  • robert

there is no release date for the nexus one.. rumor has it it will launch in vzw in mid to end of march beginning of april hopefully what i have read//

  • geeksquad

man the nexus one is going to smash and demolish that pos of iphone that apples got.. glad verizon is gettin it since they have the best 3g and coming soon 4g network….

  • http://www.theandroidsite.com Ben Marvin

At least Google acknowledges they’re “working hard” at the Nexus One for Verizon: http://www.google.com/support/android/bin/answer.py?answer=166507
