Viacom yanks The Colbert Report and The Daily Show from Hulu

Hulu suffered a setback today when Viacom announced that it is pulling the plug on both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show effective March 10th, 2010. Fans of the two shows need not panic as each show, though gone from Hulu, will still be available online via Comedy Central at TheDailyShow.com and ColbertNation.com. Money is rumored to be the reason for the split with Viacom reportedly pushing for a more lucrative advertising agreement or even an upfront lump cash sum that Hulu was unwilling to provide. Despite its amicable press release, Hulu must be feeling a bit of a sting as both The Daily Show and the Colbert Report consistently ranked within the top ten all time watched shows. With two of its headliners gone, should Hulu be concerned about other programs following suit or is it merely waiting for Viacom to come groveling back after failing to make it on its own ?

I never thought Hulu would last once Viacomm and the like realized they were losing on the potential income from just showing it on their own streaming website and thus getting advertising cash from that….see ya Hulu. Once Fox yanks Family Guy its over for them I feel

Honestly, im more likely to pirate the episodes now than I am to use two separate sites to watch it.
Even if their site was clean and well designed like hulu, have two separate sites for streaming the shows that are so combined in most ways seems like a step backward.

I used hulu because it was a centralized site to watch a lot of the shows I enjoy online, with minimal ad’s and a great layout.

So I’m off to RSS fed torrent releases – their ad free anyway

    Love them both. What’s Hulu?

Last I checked, the Stewart/Colbert haters weren’t the only BG posters. So, despite the fact that you guys may not care, others may. Take your heads out of your asses long enough to look around. :)

Who cares about Hulu anyways? No one outside the US, that’s for sure.

This is not a problem for me. I never watch them on Hulu. I am interested to see if others will pull content as Hulu may transition into a pay model. Personally, It’s not as much content for me, as it is convenience. I like one place to go and watch all of my shows. I wouldn’t mind a pay plan as long as I get more than I get now for free.

Don’t care for Colbert so much, but the Daily Show is informative and hilarious at the same time. Of course, it’s liberally biased, but they make fun of both sides equally. I love tDS.

    Hulu?

Isn’t that just like Stage6 except with bad video quality?

  • BBSwany

Viacom is all that is wrong with the media industry. Nuff said…

I just couldn’t get with Hulu. I want to be able to watch FULL EPISODES of shows I actually watch. When they can make that happen. Then it’s on. Until then, SLING MAKE A FU(#$%*& APP FOR ANDROID ALREADY!
