General

TiVo, last night, announced the TiVo Premiere and TiVo Premiere XL Series-4 set-top DVR boxes, complete with a resigned UI and optional Bluetooth QWERTY slider remote. A QWERTY TiVo remote? Come on, who are you kidding, you know you want that. The Premiere will retail for $299 and will accommodate up to 45 hours of HD programing on its 320GB hard drive. The XL will retail for $499 and will store up to 150 hours of HD goodness on its 1 TB hard drive. Both models will have a CableCARD slot, Ethernet, USB 2.0, eSATA, Netflix integration, Amazon Video integration, YouTube integration, and the ability to output in 1080p. Other than an extra 680 GB, the XL model also adds THX certification for all you audiophiles out there. The Bluetooth QWERTY remote will be available later this year, although pricing has yet to be announced. As far as other accessories go, a wireless-N adapter can be purchased separately for $90 and, for those stuck in the boonies, a $30 phone line adapter is also available. We’ve got a pic of that new-fangled remote queued up after the break.

    Premiere.

      Premier: noun: prime minister; chief.

      Premiere: noun: first public performance.

How do you know which they were going for when they determined the name?

Really, Fat Kid? Perhaps it’s time to get out of mom’s basement and do some laps around the block…get that blood flowing to the brain.

      Looks sharp! Love that remote!!

So quick to personal attack. Speaking of moms, yours must be proud.

I don’t give a shit why they called it that. But if you’re going to report on a new product, it’s usually best to get the name correct.

Not passing judgment on the author. Just pointing out a needed fix that he quickly made.

Relax, and save your flaming for someone who cares.

BGR I frequent this site very often, but it seems you guys are so slow comapred to other tech blogs! Never the less I do enjoy reading the articles…

    • blog junkie

gmac – can you name some better tech blogs? I thought BGR was good, but if there are better please share!!! Thanks

BGR is a good read, but it is the comments section that float this site.

Gizmodo is probably one of the best sites.

As a longtime (9 years!) TiVo user: LAME.

WiFi and Bluetooth (to use the QWERTY remote) are standard features — not built in. No DLNA support. This thing needs to be TiVo DVR hardware and software, with the media features of Boxee. If this is where they are headed, it’s time to hop off this failboat.

  • gmac

As far as the remote goes, apparent hands on seems to be very cheaply made and keys are made poorly. Who uses tivo anyways?

I don’t know. I don’t even watch television. Hulu and Netflix for me. Get my news online. Haven’t subscribed to cable in over 10 years.

      • com

thanks for too much info regarding your lonely life

      • AT&T_CSR

LOL not watching television makes you lonely? So sorry for you. I’m busy doing real things with real people to watch television. You keep watching your reality tv while I’m living it.

      • com

By living life, you mean commenting multiple times on this and other blogs?

  • gmac

Hmm engadget is by far the best tech blog in my opnion…very up to date and they do many hands on for the products. They also go to the big conferances(MWC10) which is very nice! Nothing against bgr, but engadget had a write up on this yesterday evening…and they were there to test it out! n no I do not work for them haha

I like the anarchy of the comments section here

    • AT&T_CSR

@com Yes. While I’m at work I’m able to browse these sites and pass the time in my down time. I have never been on BGR, Gizmodo, GSMArena, EnGadget, Phonescoop or any other of ‘these blogs’ as you put it when I’m not at work. You, sir, are a way to pass the time til I can clock out and get on with my real life. Thanks, for the laughs. You are appreciated.

      • StevenGlansburg

you just illustrated one of the many reasons why At&t’s customer service sucks

      • AT&T_CSR

Indeed it does. There’s no denying that.

      • com

How about putting a stop to browsing these site and focusing providing a better experience for AT&T subscribers.

In other words, GET TO WORK!!!

      • AT&T_CSR

Boss has a Sonicwall up, allows these sites to be unlocked. This is ‘work-related’ in his mind. So here I am. Busy as a bee. Life is good.

      • blog junkie

For someone who has “never been” on so named blogs, you are very familiar with their names.

I agree with COM: GET TO WORK!!!

      • AT&T_CSR

        I said while @ work.

I’m going to milk my Series 3 till it dies. Not to mention, I paid a “Lifetime” service fee for program updates, etc. I’m not about to pay another one here 4 years later. If they will give 30 days to transfer your lifetime fee over to this device I’ll buy it.

  • Chavoavellano

    ¿USB 2.0?

  • me

Where is the Directv or ATT Uverse compatible version?

  • AT&T_CSR

LOL it’s funny how easily people are manipulated, and what they’re willing to believe online. I work for Verizon and yet just by posting on here under AT&T_CSR (who is a regular blogger, I just stole his tag) I have everyone hating him and bashing AT&T. *pats self on back*

Thanks for the news Boy Genius! You would think TIVO themselves would have let a long-time user like me know about it, but no, I had to read it at your site. My TIVO is pretty old and I’ve been considering replacing it. This was a no-brainer, especially with the killer “lifetime service” deal they are offering existing customers. Bought it immediately, can’t wait for it to be delivered in April.
