Rogers to get Acer Liquid e this Spring

General

acer-liquid-e

In a very uncharacteristic move, Acer and Rogers Wireless jointly announced that the Android 2.1-powered Liquid e will be headed to Canada’s largest wireless carrier sometime this Spring. The early announcement is more than likely a result of TELUS’ recent launch of the highly-anticipated Motorola MILESTONE which will no doubt will end up locking plenty of Canadians to 3-year contracts. At this point in time we’re thinking Rogers might be in store for some more lacklustre Android sales just like it had with the HTC Dream and Magic, but who knows — the allure of a Snapdragon processor (under-clocked to 768MHz as it may be) might prove to be too much to pass up.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

It looks really nice. Looks kinda heavy though. I do have the droid, so I guess anything would feel lighter than that brick in my pocket.

Now that Telus, Bell, and Rogers are using the same frequency (same as AT&T in the states), the issue of what carrier is releasing a particular phone matters less than it used to.

It seems a growing number of people are unwilling to tie themselves to one carrier for three more years just to get a great price on a phone they will want to replace well before their contract is up. More and more, people are preferring to buy the phone they want off contract, and then use whatever network they wish.

When I replace my Magic, I may buy a Milestone from Telus, an Xperia X from Rogers, or something that Bell (or another of the big three) has yet to announce. Then, when my contract with Rogers is up, I will take my phone, and my business, to whatever carrier offers me the best rates for the services I want.

I believe that the 3 year contracts in Canada make this possibility far more attractive in Canada than it seems to be in the US.

You forgot the part where buying off-contract phones translates to paying $400 more for the phone excluding early cancellation fees.

I just hope the new carriers coming to the Canadian market bring something to the table that will eliminate telcos from giving us 3-year contracts to something more reasonable.

3-Long years of single contract………this is the way company sucks every thing out of lucrative offers…. lets see the power of this Android 2.1 powered machine..
