webOS 1.4 coming to Pres and Pixis on the 25th?

The rumored February 15th date for the rollout of webOS 1.4 has come and gone with nary a sighting of the latest OS offering from Palm. Now that the tentative launch date has slipped, another tentative launch date has popped up to take its place. This second rumored date reportedly comes from a source within Verizon Wireless who claims that webOS 1.4 will now rollout on February 25th. Palm did say that webOS 1.4 was expected to arrive in February so this new date sounds highly plausible and if it turns out to be wrong you always have your choice of February 26th, 27th or 28th. Let’s hope Palm can get this update out the door within its proposed time frame; if it slips into March, Palm may have some explaining to do.

    1.4 brings enhanced messaging abilities video recording with editing, speed and battery life increases. Also the led notification patch is no longer needed because palm sets it as default now. Some people seem to think the gpu will be activated for the os.

      Oh, okay – this is exciting for someone who owns a Pre and needs it fixed.

      Based on the widespread blog articles about it coming, I actually thought there was something more to it (like OSX 4.0 is supposed to FINALLY add multitasking to the iphone more, you know what I mean?).

    webOS 1.4 is expected to bring video recording, compatibility with Flash 10.1 (though Flash 10.1 is definitely coming later), minor speed improvements, and that somewhat new way of launching a card you see above. We have also heard that webOS 1.4 will also finally turn on the LED alert by default, removing the need for a patch.

    Ms. Hodgkins, it wouldn’t entirely be Palm’s fault if it doesn’t release on the 25th. There is a lot of testing and planning that the carriers perform before rolling out an update to any smartphone they offer. This is pretty standard procedure as the carrier(s) and Palm work together to ensure a smooth rollout.

    Improved battery life is the one thing this phone desperately needs. Also, where is the LED on the Pre Plus?

      The LED is in the gesture area directly underneath the screen. Whenever you perform gestures, an LED lights up to indicate what action you have performed.

    Who cares about the pre? Why does this story exist? Unless it is made by apple nothing else matters! All other review sites and blogs that talk about smartphones will die out in 10 years, because the only smartphone will be the iPhone! Apple made the first smartphone that really sold!
