Palm webOS coming to T-Mobile?

Exclusive

One of our solid Palm connects just dropped something pretty interesting in our inbox…

According to him, T-Mobile is in “final stages” of planning out their webOS device launch with Palm. Apparently the first device we’re looking at seeing is a Palm Pixi-like handset, but we don’t have much more to report on besides that.

Once can only hope it will be a bigger phone than the Pre and Pixi?

    • Anon Imus

I’ll say this publicly. If T-Mobile get a different, and better than Pre, WebOS phone I’ll shoot myself in the face on a webcam!

How they continue to scoop great phones is beyond me.

    • Steel

Come on, who cares? Aliens could come to T-mobile and I wouldn’t show up. Their coverage sucks.

      • Joe

Their coverage is just the same as At&t and yes they do both lack in actual coverage area but my 3G is fast as hell. But in just 2-3 years it won’t matter because all of the network operators will be running 4G and all phones will work on all networks. What will happen to the Networks then? All it will be about is who gets the best phone but what’s to keep you if the coverage is all the same?

      • Craig K

hate to say it joe i used to work for T-Mobile and AT&T does have more coverage and more 3G, just the cold hard facts dude

      • T

Craig I hate to say it but I currently work for T-
Mobile and in the last year our coverage became on par with AT&T. Check your cold hard facts.

what are they doing for dislike comment thing ?

  • Joe

    Dear Palm/TMobile,

It’d be great if you put webOS on T Mobile, but please make the hardware of the device better than the current Pre and Pixi. Thank you.

    • Gauntlet Down

It would be a shocker if T-Mobile caries a Palm phone – been years. That sales person should get a nice bonus, if true.

    • Gauntlet Down

Either it’s true or some fund needed the stock price higher for options expiration.

  • mittens

    The Pixi Plus Plus?

  • AusFest

Considering the Nexus One is having some issues the Pre might do pretty well over at T-Mo. Mr Steve Jobs should send his iphone over to T-Mobile as well.

  • SDreamer

One thing that Windows Phone 7 Series has over the iPhone and Palm right now is the number of carriers in the US that will partner. If I remember correctly, they plan on having a Windows Phone on every carrier at least, thus letting the customer choose the carrier they want because platform doesn’t matter for those looking for the Windows Phone. I hope Palm follows with this method that Microsoft and Google are employing because it really helps with the competition for AT&T and Apple.

    • Matt

If this is true Palm will have there phones on every US carrier soon enough, probably even before Windows phone 7 even hits, considering we’re likely to see a WebOS phone on AT&T in May.

  • Nino

I hope it comes to AT&T soon, can’t wait to get rid of my iPhone 3GS.

I want google voice and on iPhone it’s impossible.

I wish carriers had family data only plans. I have 3200 roll over minutes. I get 700 every month and use about 80 minutes.

    • Matt

Like my previous comment, AT&T announced at CES that they’ll have WebOS phones by the end of the year, with early indications pointing to May.

    • Cut Throat

      @nino

      You’re a fucking idiot!

you should listen to @Matt. Palm web OS will be on att probably by june or july along with the new iphone, ipad, new android phones, and every thing else they have.

    • http://www.templeofandrex.com/ Andrex

If you just want Google Voice why not get an Android phone? The integration is far nicer, plus Android will hit AT&T sooner (with the Motorola Backflip and possibly HTC’s phone.)

    • Ash

It is not impossible. You can either jailbreak your phone and download gv mobile from cydia. Or, you can use your iphone safari and go to m.google.com/voice. Their web version is actually pretty great.

  • majorhunadadun

I’ve been on the Pre since the beginning… As of late it’s been a dark time in my pre world…. Delayed 1.4 update, a bunch of ‘no’ on many fronts… This is good to hear… They need better hardware!!! I know they know it!!! Something’s in the works… Windows 7 stole it at MWC… So we should see something here soon… From Apple also…

    • E2

Well the 1.4 update isn’t ‘delayed’ – Palm said it would be February and, as far as I can see, it will still be February for almost two weeks yet…

A date of the 15th was leaked (Presidents day software release – really?) but I don’t think you can blame Palm for that.

In any case maybe we should wait for it to be late before complaining about it being late?

  • Daniel

I’m glad T-Mobile is taking the dive into WebOS. IMHO, it’s the best OS out there. It merges all that’s good in Apple + Android + BB and puts it in a wonderful package. I am just hoping this isn’t a low end device like the Pixi. If it’s a Pre like device, I’ll hold off and buy it but if it’s not then I’d be happy buying a Nexus One. It’s still has 3G issues but it looks like a T-mobile and software fix. Both are in the works.

    • DJ Megatron

Hmm, it said a Pixi like device. Wonder if it means they will have a new form factor, or new device?

  • bass

I like webos, I have a BB now but been thinking about switching. I hope they either get the pixi with a different name and better specs or a full touch to rival the htc hd2 in size.

  • mingkee

    welcome back Palm.

  • Hedeg

Not sure what all the pixi hate is about, my wife has one, and while it might not be the Ferrari of smartphones, I think that it has a great form factor works well, and now that they added wifi to the pixi + version I think that it’s a very capable phone with a great OS.

    • robnhl

Agree. The Pixi would be great for my wife (she has a Pre, though) or kids (they have BB Storms). I’m thinking that many on BGR don’t have families to think about or don’t see room in the smartphone universe for more than one or two phones. I suspect Palm will take a RIM like approach and continue to offer different form-factors and capabilities for different audiences.

      • Scott

Wow, your kids have Storms? How old are they? And do you pay for their phones and service?

I remember when I got my first cell phone. I was a basic Moto and I paid my own phone bill. I was also 15. Kids these days are spoiled. If your kids are under 20 and they are walking around with Storms that you’re paying for, you should be embarrassed! I’m sure VZW is loving having that many data plans being paid for ;) lol

      • bob

what kid under 20 makes enough money… the only time you can work is during the summer usually

      • Jwest569

Kids have many options besides the summer to work, this isn’t the olden days. I’m pretty sure I’ve owned all types of smart phones since I got a job, I’ve had it for a year now. Im 17. iphone, bb, and now a nexus one. smart phones are not limited to business people anymore. :)
Please read up before you speak.

      • http://www.templeofandrex.com/ Andrex

Yeah even if you get crap pay, if you’re a teen you have very few financial responsibilities so it can all go to cool toys anyways.

      • Joe

When I was 18 years old I got my first BlackBerry (8800) and haven’t turned back since. I worked my ass off just like all the “real” adults so I could afford such luxuries. Smartphones are just for the 25+ crowd. I’d argue that about half the current smartphones are more designed for the 25 and under crowd now. Why else would you see things like the Pearl Flip and the Motorola Cliq being made? Surely Business Broker Bill doesn’t need to update his Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace status while checking up on his clients right?

      • Laz

You should be embarrassed for criticizing someone else on how they raise their children! We all have different means growing up and if you were not happy with your up bringing, you should have made it better for yourself…

      • Scott

I guess I was just raised differently. I was brought up that you earned what you got. I didn’t have a job at 15, yet I did house work for my parents for money, as well as my neighbors, thus teaching me the value and work it takes to earn each dollar. Nothing comes easy and if parents keep giving handouts to their children, how are they going to respect their financial choices? Just my $.02

      • keishi

When I was a kid I did tons of housework and work for my neighbors for free. I didn’t even think of asking for money. Why would a parent pay their child for doing work around the house? How can you respect the choices of an adult if the sole reason he helped HIS OWN FAMILY was a few dollars?

How your parents raised you is how how one raises children with an awful sense of entitlement, who think every little thing they do needs to be rewarded. No wonder you go around criticizing the way other parents raise their children.

so all the US carriers are getting WebOS.

I agree I love the form factor on the pixi, just wish it had more memory for music and apps and multitasking like the pre. I play with the pixi a lot and I think the overall feel of the phone is the best and I have fat fingers. .

  • Steve

Palm is cool. I can see it now, The T-Mobile Palm Pixi Plus 1.2, lol. GO T-MOBILE!

  • jude

Great OS, crap hardware. You can’t polish a turd.

  • TH3 GAM3

If it comes, great job T-Mo

  • Gina D

How about an all touchscreen Palm WebOS phone for T-Mobile USA?

With a screen to rival the Bravo or Nexus One?

  • jdlnmia

If true, way to scrape the bottom of the barrel, Palm. What about AT&T?????

    • LaToya (AKA Digital Nightmare)

AT&T is the bottom of the barrel. I was in San Francisco yesterday and I threw my iPhone 3Gs into a brick wall, literally. It was so crappy. I also have T-Mobile with the N900 and Nexus One, and I used the N900 and it worked better on 3G. I’m paying AT&T ETF today.

  • NOEL

Hope this device will be all touch screen or one w/ a side slide out qwerty keyboard and a bigger screen abt 3.5 or 3.7 inches coupled w/ a 1Ghz snap dragon processor. Palm has the OS to run smoothly on a bigger screen..the Pre’s screen is a lil small for what it is capable of. And this is for my man Anon Imus..be ready to do what u say u will do on webcam, cz Tmo is going after every gr8 phone this days..they finally woke up from their slumber. Remember Tmo is the new SMARTPHONE HUB.

  • Louis

  • Mike

Forget about the Pixi, let’s get a PrÄ“!

    • Nokia N900

      That’s what she said

  • bob

does anybody really care what Palm does anymore?

    • MobilrGuru

@bob considering that all the major carriers are grabbing their phones means they must do. Don’t count them out yet, Palm has been there since the beginning. Anyz. Good for u T-Mobile! At least now with the Pre/Pixi Plus no1 is stuck with big red’s ridiculous prices.
