SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone with 3G streaming goes live

slingboxplayer-iphone-3g

Today is a great day for the forever on the go TV addict, as the the latest version of SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone has arrived and brought 3G streaming with it. Available in the iTunes App Store for the princely sum of $30, SlingPlayer Mobile the other week won AT&T’s nod of approval thanks to its a new optimization live streaming optimization method that AT&T has been tinkering with since late last year. So far we’ve heard and read that the app runs fairly well in heavily congested metropolitan areas, but we’re pretty keen to know the experience of our readers first hand. After all, you’re one good looking and intelligent bunch and we think this version is slightly different than the 3G-enabled version we’ve been using.

Watch where you are going before you bump into someone. Because you are looking at your phone instead of watching where you are going.

    so excited for this

Nice! Finally att does something cool

The only reason At&t did this is because all of the iphone owners got rid of their iphones and bought Droids because it’s the best designed phone ever created.

        LOL

        Keep telling yourself that!

Want to hear how well it works in Downtown Chicago over 3G before jumping in.

    YeeaaaaaYyyyyaaaaa
Now I get to watch all those shows I don’t watch at home.

Just upgraded and ran it on the iPhone in NYC on 3G….worked excellently….no issues!

LOL. I can barely stream YouTube videos on AT&T. Now we will have users congesting the network even more with Slingbox streaming. There goes the network!

    • Jason Price = LIAR!

LIAR! Give your mom her phone back!

Slightly off topic, is anyone having data issues on att? In the Phoenix area it’s been going in and out for just over a week. My guess is network upgrades, as edge has been working fine.

EDGE is a seperate network, other than IRAT, they have nothing to do with each other.

I can’t wait until this comes out for free on the droid!

Is there an update for an earlier version?

  • Joel

Mine is a WIFI version only. How do i upgrade to the new version?

works amazing as long as your UL rate on your home connection is fast enough. 3G has no problem keeping up!!!

  • DubYa

3G quality is surprisingly good. My Bold could do it all along. But very happy my iPhone can now do it! This is the sole reason I will be buying an iPad now.

Is this new? LOL I have been doing it for along time on my jailbroken iPhone. Don’t see much of a difference.

  • Scott

Works great. Bouncing from Long Island through Manhattan and to NJ…no problems at all. In fact for some weird reason I think it’s much steadier than the bold (don’t know why but it is)

finally AT&T something for you to be proud of! Great job!

We have to give credit when credit is due.

I’m thinking of getting the Slingbox now, this would make one of the reasons to get the Ipad. Viewing would be so much better.

Works great in LA. If you purchased the app, go to app store and the update notification will show up. Update and you are good to go.

Glansburg is such a douche. I have 3 friends that “went droid” ALL 3 OF THEM CONVERTED BACK TO IPHONE”

so please, while the droid is def the best phone Big red has to offer, it’s not, nor ever will be an iPhone…and for someone who is such a droid lover, how bout trolling their blogs so you’ll leave us the Fu*k alone!

  • NGK

Hey scott while I can agree with you regarding Mr Glansburg, I dont agree with the fact that iphones own BGR, or even this thread. So, no one’s opinions should have to leave apple fanboys the “F” alone.

..On topic, I am curious how the network will swell with this feature? similar to ATT’s MMS issues of woe.

Been using it on BB, and WM for almost a year for free. Way to catch up apple and ATT.

Just purchased and installed the Slingbox and now the Iphone app too. Nice, great on Wifi, and totally watchable on 3G. Now, I can watch sports when I’m somewhere I don’t want to be in.

    Hi,
I want to but Slingbox Pro and the iPhone app but can’t get 3G where I will be using it, so has anyone gotten it to run over the Edge Network? If you could test it, I would really appreciate knowing.
    Thanks.

  • Fred

Ooops! That would be “I want to buy a Slingbox Pro and the iPhone app…”

    • Fred

BTW, how is the battery life while running it?

  • Ralph

Just a FYI, I am able to receive video using the slingbox app on my iPhone 3G on the EDGE network. It takes about 30 seconds to start and the picture isn’t the best and it jumps every now and then but it still works.

    Hi guys

I have a slingplayer v. 1.1 and would like to upgrade to v. 1.2. I’ve heard that it’s free once you got an older version, but I can’t figure out how to do it. Can anybody help?

    Best wishes
