Nokia 5230 Nuron headed to T-Mobile on March 17th?

Rumor

tmo-nokia-nuron-leak

In the days leading up to Nokia World 2009, the world’s largest phone maker announced the 5230, an affordable touchscreen Symbian S60 smartphone. At the time there was no official word whether or not it would ever make its way on to American soil, but thanks to the work of a few sneaky devils we now know that T-Mobile is gearing up to release it as the Nuron on March 17th. Pricing has yet to be passed down the corporate ladder, but we can’t imagine it would command a high price on or off contract considering it has nothing going for it in the eyes of the public other than its touchscreen and 3G connectivity. Perhaps this is one best left for the kiddies? T-Mobile’s slide doesn’t think so, however.

Believe it or not, these are the devices that sell the most. Not Touch Pros, Blackberries, etc. The free touch screen phones always outsell them.

    “touchscreen and 3G connectivity”

hey! its got GPS, Ovi Maps

They would have been better off launching the archaic 5800 XpressMusic, or better, the N900.

And please let it come in any color other than white, a white phone is so tacky, cheap, and plastic looking.

And when they see its $59-99 on contract, it’ll be a big Symbian marketshare party. Beats $149 and $199 for the current Android phones, and it could possibly come in at a free price point. Most people that ever buy a Nokia buy another one afterwards. Pair this as a free phone for the Even More all you can eat plan at $79 a month, and this is an excellent option for a new smartphoner. Data shows there will be an explosion of newbs in the US, and this may be the device most likely to pop their cherry.

this phone is actually already quite old in Symbian circles. It is the cheapest Nokia smartphone touch device.

You hit the problem RIGHT ON THE HEAD…. The reason Nokia hasn’t released anything in the US for YEARS, it that the US Carriers (ATT, Verizon, Sprint, etc) have been 5-7 YEARS behind the rest of the world in capability and speed and functionality and have quite frankly been laughing at us for years….AND rightfully so.

This phone can be bought, unlocked, cheap TODAY in the US.. Just move your SIM card over and you’re done !!

why do they stick to this long and skinny format years after it’s obsolete?

  • nokiabrock

I could be wrong about this, but doesn’t T-mobile 3G network work on the 1700MHZ band. If you go to Nokia’s site and look at the operating frequencies of the 5230 it doesn’t operate in that band. Or is Nokia releasing a special N.A.M. model for the US?

I would put my money down on that also… if they posted about it then it might take away from the great leaps the iphone 4g has …. bigger screen… oooo ahh.. lets go out and blow money on the same phone just because the screen is a little bigger and it has some reflective material! ::rolls eyes::

free turn by turn nav in a phone that will practically be free will be killer.
