We knew it was coming, and now, it is here. Today, Verizon Wireless and Motorola officially announced the Motorola DEVOUR’s availability on America’s largest wireless carrier. As previously reported, this Android handset will come complete with MOTOBLUR, a 3.1″ capacitive touch screen, touch-sensitive track pad, 3G connectivity, aGPS, Bluetooth, and a micro-SD card slot. The device will fall under Verizon’s list of “advanced devices” and require a $29.99 data plan and, presumably, will come with a $350 early termination fee as well. Look for it to become available in early March. Hit up the official press release for all the details.

It looks cheap (not inexpensive, cheap). Looks too plasticy.

    • James

Wrong, This phone isn’t phone isn’t ‘plasticy’ at all. The phone is solid metal and not the least bit cheap. I’ve had one for the past month and it’s worked excellent.

  • iScuba

MAN!!! i’m so no impressed with that. Just looking at it makes me want to drown.

And it’s still not enough to pull verizon out from bankruptcy. They keep investing in unreliable underpowered technology. The only thing that can save verizon is to get the iPhone and that will never happen because apple refuses to deal with their crippling of devices and the CDMA (which went out with the commodore 64) slooow crap network. Verizon should’ve been investing in their network, now their to far behind times. Sucks to be them or especially the customer. Glad I left when I did.

      @Mwiirez,

Could you sound more like an idiot? The Droid wasn’t crippled at all, so there goes that stupid comment. CDMA is out, funny isn’t AT&T 3G network WCDMA? And won’t Verizon be the first with LTE? There goes some more of your stupid comments.

Apple would love to be on Verizon, love it, but Verizon won’t bend to Apples demands. Everyone criticizes Verizon, but it is Apple with the unreasonable demands.

      • TomTpm

well info – what does some stupid comment have to do with AT&T? nothing –

If this was a new device on AT&T ot TMO the Verizon crew would be calling every/any name possible.

      • info

        @TomTpm

Well the previous comment was about how much better the iPhone was and how bad Verizon’s network is, so I would think the AT&T connection would be easy to follow.

Oh, and read my comment again. I stated that CDMA wasn’t bad because AT&T uses it. Think next time.

You talking about VZ Communications or VZ Wireless? If you’re talking about the wireless then I believe you’re confused.

Why didn’t the Droid get a keyboard like this?

    • Droid is better than Iphone

LOL do you actually belive the crap you are spewing because it just sounds like you are jelous to me. Have you even looked at the DROID? I bet not because this thing is seriously fast and they basically have the best network out there right now!

  • DaneS

    @Mwiirez

You sir are an idiot. Why complain about something that doesnt affect you. So you werent happy with Verizon, so be it, who really cares, just be happy with what you got and quit BITCHIN!!

  • droiddiord

Verizon’s wireless is not bankrupt by any means…. as far as verizon communication goes, laying off 13000 people doesn’t surprise me. Wire line communication is dying.

  • KingGrimlock

doesn’t look too bad but the keyboard kind of looks like an old casio calculator circa 1982.

    • James

The keyboard is great. I compared my Devour keyboard with that of the Droid and it is far superior.

  • steve

thanks for spelling out the t&c’s andrew..lol

  • BDW

ANOTHER YAWN FOR MOTO!!!! It looks like Two Solid Devices(Droid, Cliq) followed by crap(Backflip, Devour)

    • James

Yawn? It’s great. The android OS topped with motoblur is a great combo. If the phone crashes, all of your contacts and personal date is saved to your motoblur account. All you have to do is retie a phone with your motoblur account and all of your contacts will be back.

      • BDW

YAWN!!!! Its made by Motorola. Its one of the ugliest phones I have seen and there isn’t a Smartphone offered by Verizon that isn’t better than this piece of junk. The Droid Eris whoops this phones ass in every aspect and that’s an entry level Smartphone. Sense is so much better than Blur. Moto Blur is garbage, aimed at high school kids and a failed attempt to revive Motorola.

      • James

So how many times have you used this phone?

      • BDW

0 but I have used a Cliq and the phone itself is great. Moto BLUR not so great. My big issue here isn’t necessarily the phone itself its the Blur UI. I hate it. I like Sense a lot better. I don’t care about Facebook, Myspace and Twitter on my homescreen. I would much rather have the date, time and current weather and daily forecast. I am 24 not 14. Do I use Facebook? Yes. Do I use it everyday and take 1434324 pictures of my self not looking at the camera? No.

      • Dylan

Okay that is the point why the hell else would verizon wast money on buying a basically lower end droid because its MENT for teens thats why droid runs 2.0 that stands for 20yrs. and devour runs 1.6 therefoe 16yrs. so take that and shove it up ur fatass

      • Bob

        I have a TP2 with Sense and I’m not a fan.

This phone’s keyboard doesn’t have to be great to be better than the Droid’s. I owned one for a couple weeks and returned it because I couldn’t stand typing on the keyboard.

      • Droid is better than Iphone

ROFL the Droid Eris sucks, even the people at the Verizon store said it sucks. Have you even seen the Motorola DROID in person? The Devour totally wastes the Droid Eris!

      • erisdoes

I have a Droid Eris, and it is great. The screen is responsive, the v-keyboard is great, and it’s tiny and light without feeling badly constructed. The camera is high-resolution too. This thing is a similar form factor to the iPhone, but open-source, less fingerprints b/c its plastic is matte, better camera, more RAM, better processor, better network, more free apps, interchangeable batteries. Love it.

      • the one to say blah

hey yeah so just incase you didnt notice because your speaking upon some thing you have no knowledge of this is basically a phone for kids if you havent noticed its the kid version of the office and profficonal driod. big time bussness men dnt twitter. this phone is creativitly crafted for the younger generation

  • rockstar323

I love how no one even reads the specs about the device before they start complaining that its made out of plastic. Let me help those to lazy to read.

It’s aluminum, not plastic. It’s roughly the same size as the droid, slightly thicker and about the same weight. If you have ever held a droid you would know that it feels very solid and well built. I would expect this to feel the same.

    • James

Amen. And yes, its quite solid.

  • Hector

    • James

Their network works great. My 3g on my Devour runs faster than I ever thought it would. I compared it to an Iphone loading google and my Devour loaded quicker. The Devour also won when connected to WiFi.

      • BDW

Any product made by Motorola outside of the Droid and possibly the Cliq can not compare to any other companies product. That is how bad of a company Motorola is. First Zander comes in and fucks shit up. Then Brown comes in and fucks shit up and now this Bozo Sanjay comes in and does too little too late. Goodbye Motorola we WON’T Miss you.

      • James

Well, you’re obviously wrong since I did a first hand comparison. Remind me, how many times have you used the Devour?

      • Droid is better than Iphone

How do you have a Devour if it is not even out yet?

    • erisdoes

Verizon spends way more on their network than anyone, notice America’s LARGEST and most reliable 3G network.

  • Kirbdaddy

Looks like hot garbage to me.

    • James

Wrong, dumb and pointless comment as well.

  • James

Just pointing out that I’m not the James who posted this comment.

cuteset thing ive seen in a while, diggin the metallic color, who cares if it looks plasticky? ive been dying for a flip up/slide up screen on a full qwerty keyboard a la sidekick. if only sidekicks were still relevant. too bad apple wont come out with a sidekick~esque phone. Whyyyy??

oh and some of all are gonna hate and say go with DROID. ive used a friends. its my personal opinion that its wayyy over hyped and keyboard sucked. dont hit me!

    +Fumo

  • Mike2128

Played with it yesterday. Phone is solidly built and sturdy. Noticeably slower than the Droid (thinking BLUR had a lot to do with it, but it’s still underpowered comparitively). It was running 1.6 and I was told that was what it would release with.

Semi-related note: I was also told Droid Eris is leap-frogging to 2.1 and is releasing very soon.

  • Peter Cuevas

The Droid’s little brother perhaps?…Still prefer the backflip to this devour…

    • Kevin

Yes, the Devour is the Droid’s little brother. Even look at the CNET review for it. The person even agrees.

Sidekick Slide running droid? it looks impressive actually. I dont like the color. This I think is definitely gonna be a Sidekick replacement and will do well but maybe a little older demographic? My Slide was my favorite of all my generaitons of SK’s I had (SK 1 2 3 & Slide)

  • wirecup

Finally a keyboard with the number keys being primary keys but wireless device keyboards so far are at best deficient devices. This keyboard lacks serious control keys that are mostly required for writing, spreadsheets, and forms as follows: tabs, caps lock (maybe), Ctrl, Alt, Pg up and down, delete, and fast cursor control (up-down-left-right). A two button mouse or track pad can substitue for some of these but I’m not sure if these are included here. I’m waiting for an OEM to provide a better physical keyboard.

  • Allie

I CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS BABY

  • Kevin

Motorola isn’t a bad company for those who have no idea. One thing they should of do for Devour customers is to replace Android 1.6 with 2.0 which will improve the phone. I think though the phone is perfect.

  • austin

what button is the alt i cannot start my phone up and it says to restart it i need to hold control alt and delete ?

  • miguel alvarez

I am the official anti-span police on BRG….bow down before me…

  • miguel alvarez

If its not an iPhone, I am -completely- closed minded about it….
