Sony Ericsson today announced the Aspen, the latest handset in its GreenHeart line of eco-friendly devices. A no-nonsense Windows Phone geared towards business users, the Aspen’s features include a full-QWERTY keypad, 2.4″ QVGA dispaly, 3.2 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and SPB Mobile Shell floating on top of Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Pricing has yet to be announced, but the Sony Ericsson Aspen is scheduled to drop in Q2. And yes, this puppy is available with some US 3G love, albeit only on the 850 MHz band. Oh well. 1900 is teh suck anyway. Right, AT&T?

This may be a little off topic but does anyone know if SE has in the past, or has any intension of making CDMA phones. I have Sprint and would love to have this phone. Very sharp!

      AT&T’s 3G bands are 850MHz and 1900MHz.

Are you saying AT&T’s 3G isn’t on 1900MHz, or making a statement about 1900MHz being a crappy band to have 3G on?

It does a bit. It’s kind of… angular.

Is it just me, or does that look a lot like the ill-fated Kogan Agora from yesteryear? I’m not trying to draw any parallels, I’m just saying the resemblance is striking.

Why don’t they call this the SE Has-been? I’ve never seen a company try so hard and still remain irrelevant. Although the X10 does look pretty sweet.

  • What??

It looks like a blackjack with a Q’s keyboard.

  • Craptastic

Ugly. Why do phone companies even bother anymore? The iPhone will always reign supreme!

    850/900/2100?

What the hell is that all about? Damn it Sony Ericsson, if that’s not a typo (or maybe if it is even) you may be one of the most mentally handicapped phone makers ever.

Yes, over other’s objections I personally like the look of the phone – very “business-like” and direct, not trying to be ‘glamorous” and all shiny just to appease people. The front surface shown has an extremely sleek and “International” (architectural) look to it. If the surface is the brushed aluminum that it appears to be…wow.

…OTOH, it seems to lack a number of direct access keys, such Mail, Contacts, etc. and this goes (IMHO) directly against the “business-like” purpose. I love the clean, angular look but dislike the fact that it seems that functionality has been sacrificed for this look – not good. :(
