Verizon sends retailers DEVOUR promo materials as Moto's support site goes live

While much of the tech world continues the stupid debate as to whether or not the iPad is the greatest thing to happen since electricity (it’s not), Verizon has quietly been shipping promo materials for the Motorola DEVOUR to retail outlets across the country. Granted, this hasn’t come out of nowhere considering the device showed up in CelleBrites as early as two weeks ago — plus, who could remember our not once, twice, but thrice photo sessions with it — but the funny thing is that a whole whack of support guides have just now gone live on Motorola’s global support site. Interesting, no?

    Looks like a Sidekick Slide…pass.

  • Couny Chocula

First? I’m not really sure how I feel about the look of this phone…

  • Frank Grimes

How different is this from the DROID, minus the MOTOBlur?

    • Nokia N900

It’s a lesser version of the Droid, a sidekick for Verizon if you will.

      • TheEricMcIntyre

        HAHAHAHA you said lesser.

Even, I never thought that iPad is the greatest thing to happen. Curious to see how this new gadget will perform..

Mid range droid is basically what is.

    Yawn…pass.

How are Verizon customers supposed to know this is cool if it doesn’t have the word ‘Droid’ in it? Verizon forgot to mention that a Droid is what it is because of Android OS…. by marketing DROID so much they confused the shit out of anyone that doesn’t visit tech sites.

    • carig

Well on the VZW website they do say “Android OS!” next to both droids and they have a even have a nice green android in the “key features”, so at least they’re trying.

It is weird that they aren’t putting this under the “Droid” name that they worked so hard to build up. Maybe that means they’re putting it in the 3g multimedia phones category instead of the 3g smartphones.

Does this phone come up on the Motorola website?…

What exactly is Celebrite? is it a diagnostic tool or something?

    • Menno

It’s the machine that Verizon stores use to transfer your numbers between phones.

      • PR

        Thanks!

  • Gary

**multiple companies use this, it’s not carrier specific.

I’ll be waiting for an official release. I’m eligible for an upgrade and really don’t want to leave Big Red. I’ll be honest the iPhone has a lot to do with whether or not I upgrade now or wait till this summer.

    • j

So nathan, do you expect Verizon to get the iphone this summer? or are you waiting for the upgrade and leaving for ATT?

      • Nathan Trimboli

Ideally I’d like for Verizon to get the iPhone. But since I feel like that won’t happen I’ll probably go Android.

      • bobewreckem69

        no flash , no buy

    • StevenGlansburg

LOL… did a Verizon rep telling you it was coming this summer… just like last summer… or last winter….. or summer 08?

      • Nathan Trimboli

No, just wishful thinking on my part. I know it more than likely will not happen. But hey, a guy can dream right?

      • StevenGlansburg

yeah… fair enough.. the half of my fam on verizon wishes it was true.. I’ve said all along that every carrier should have it and much of this bickering among everyone would cease.

      • Nathan Trimboli

I could not agree more with your last statement.

  • NoFan

The Moto Droid supercedes the Iphone in every way so have at it…..(maybe not every way but every important way)

Yeah, it does look like a Sidekick, but to me thats not a bad thing :)

I’ve had the G1since it came out, and I really like Android- but miss the tough clicky keyboard of the SideKick, and I must admit the textured D-Pad on the SK 2009 was pure awesomeness.

Coupled with the trak ball, you could perfectly dial in your cursor anywhere you wanted with none of the trakball inaccuracies.

Trakball for general area- then Dpad for fine detail.

Not to mention, for gaming the Dpad was a must.

I wont get this phone because my next device will need a big screen and fast processor, but I’m encouraged they seem to be making nice QWERTYs.. looking forward to inspecting it in store.

I won my Droid through a blackfriday contest that verizon had and I really like the android OS. I had the HTC Eris shortly after the droids launch and that phone was sweet too because of the HTC interface. To each his own but verizon and Google have made a couple great phones so far and I look forward to seeing the devour in action with the blur interface.

    • BetterThanDroiddiord

Yeah right, next thing you will say is that you got to play with a Droid prior to launch. Hell, at this rate you might even tell me its snowing in Wisconsin! Stupid Big Red Fanboy!

No in all honesty, I love Android. I was an iphone user before starting to work for vzw. I like my Droid better than my iphone, and unless vzw gets one sometime, I will most likely stick with it. Please note: my biggest complaint about the iphone was the 3g service. If any other network offered this device, I think several people would consider the move. (as if this has not been said 15 million times) ;)

  • Joe

could this be the sub-economy priced phone that will get users into Android?! I certainly hope so, considering the G1 did a terrible job of it.

Am I the only one that feels Motorola has done a better job on hardware for Android than HTC has so far?

  • Joe

Does anyone else think they could have used more real estate for a bigger keyboard?
