Stephen Colbert rocks the Grammys with an Apple iPad

We didn’t think we’d see an iPad surface so soon… If you were keeping up with the Grammys, you were probably just as shocked as we were when Stephen Colbert pulled one out to present Song of the Year. And of course, the iPad’s cameo wouldn’t be complete without a little gloating from Colbert himself. “Jay Z, did you not get one of these in your gift bag? As Nigel Tufnel has so eloquently stated, the 2 are not mutually exclusive. I suggest you cease wasting time on imbecilic comments, do your work and get more from what is most likely a physiologically sound brain that has suffered from a lack of proper training and discipline.

    I am serious about the Droid. Sure they have sold 2million to iPhone’s 4million(estimate) last quarter. But it is a great phone, most reviews say as much. And all my points are still valid even if you don’t like the Droid, sub in the Nexus. I have actually have grown to appreciate the keyboard which is its only shortcoming IMHO…Snesoid would not be the same without it. If you think the Droid Blows I just have no response to that, because it is a GREAT phone even if it is not your preference, just as the iPhone is a great “Phone” and definitely not my preference. Again…I go back to my points I made earlier. To each his own, but at least bring something to the table when you say “Blows.” But I guess you are speaking from a “popularity” standpoint, which I agree, the “Droid” will never overtake the iPhone (I was talking about the iPad though in my comparison) but Android will overtake the iPhone in device sales eventually.

      I think droid and pre are both pretenders, the fact is as much as i hate apple the iphone changed the whole wireless industry as much as the text message. With out iphone 60% of the devices sold over the big 4 would have been thought of. I personally want a sweet ass symbian device on the nations best 3g experience. Using my phone and web at the same time is vital for my job and very very convenient. I hope vzw gets the iphone and all the blame that comes with the apple logo. reliable till they get a 4000% increase in data in a 2yr period.

      Nobody and I repeat no company can sell so many of any device if it didn’t have any merits. For the Droid to sell 2 million is a sign its a good device and Apple has sold many more iPhones, because its a good device as well.

      These flippin stupid comments as totally driving down the IQ factor of these articles and discussions.

    Colbert whores himself out to all corporate sponsors mostly as a parody to corporate advertising, but he also makes a ton of money from it because of his huge following. Its like a double edged sword.

    His road to the Olympics gig is sponsored by Dr Pepper, Budweiser and Verizon.

    His slogans are the best though… Budweiser “The only reason we know what a Clydesdale is”

    I don’t understand why people say this will be great for school, I currently go to school and the benefits of actually having a textbook in-front of you to write notes in and highlight are lifesavers. This doesn’t really help as far as emailing also, I much rather have a physical keyboard that doesn’t cost “extra” as money is strapped for school and going towards food etc… a net-book or laptop is more suitable downloading books (legally or illegally) is great and faster and cheaper….

    I like his show, but this is getting a bit cheesy, he was mentioning it during the show too a few days ago. No one cares. Seriously, if you have an iPhone, the iPad retardation of a pc tablet is useless. Call me when you put Flash on there, or an Operating System that can actually handle PC functions. If it had OSx it would be something to look at, like this its just a oversized Iphone without phone functions.

        Exactly. Hey, I’m not going to bash anyone because they choose not to buy an iPad, it’s not going to meet everyone’s needs and it’s not supposed to. If you need to go reconfigure some pipes in your CAD drawing, it’s probably not the right tool. But probably at least 50% of people don’t need to do that on their mobile computer. They want to surf the web, check email, and maybe play a game or two. They don’t want to deal with managing the OS, scanning for viruses, defragmenting the hard drive, installing graphics driver updates, etc. That’s why I think the iPad can be successful, it simplifies the most common tasks, which is what a lot of people would like from their computer.

        But actually I think there will be some pretty cool productivity software on the iPad once developers really get into it. The first versions of the iWork apps that Steve demonstrated and the painting app called Brushes make a good case that with smart developers it can be done, and pretty elegantly, without compromising the simplicity of the iPad much. So eventually you probably will be able to get some amount of “serious” work done on it if you need to.

    He sold his soul to a tech company for a few bucks. It was also a classless act to use the Grammy event, which is supposed to be all about the artists, for his own personal gain. He should be there to humbly honour their talent. He can make fun of them all the next night on his own show.

    LOL, another internet tough guy.
    The poster opined that come release day the iPad will have multitasking. I’ve read that’s not possible with this ARM architecture, and the current configuration.

    I was wrong to imply that it could never be possible, but it’s clear Apple went for the battery life over any effort to get this processor to do multitasking.

    Did they try? I’m sure they did, but it always comes down to how long it takes to flush out the code and make the switch, and people have no tollerance for waiting even just 5 seconds to do that.
