Colorware Nexus One BGR Blue

Yesterday, ColorWare added the HTC Nexus One to its list of customizable colored goods, and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want a Nexus One in BGR blue…right? As we all know, customizing your mobile phone is never a cheap affair, and purchasing a painted handset directly from ColorWare will set you back $800; sending in a unit you already own has a price tag of $175. Those of you who need to express your steez and have a little extra money to burn can head on over to the ColorWare website to check out the plethora of pigment permutations. Alliteration anyone?

    Why is this a story?

    • scadole

It’s not a story, it’s an ad. BGR is becoming more and more an advertising frenzy than it’s usual biased bloggy self.

      • Star

        engadget too. Don’t forget engadget.

    • Because

Because BG gets all of his devices done for a cut-rate discount from Colorware, so whenever they send something to him about a new device they are doing, he immediately sends it to one of his writers to post as if it’s news.
Surprised the Kindle Colorware didn’t pop up on here as a “story”.

Last I checked, blogs can be about anything the blog writer wants them to be.

Ohhhh, wait, you’re expecting some type of journalism? In a blog? You get your world news from the Onion or the Daily Show, don’t you?

      • pat

uhm no? i just dont see this as something worth the time to post on here considering every other comment on here is bashing colorware anyways….

I’m getting a Nexus One in two weeks, and I’m even paying the unsubsidized $529 price tag. I would LOVE to color this up in some pink and orange, but just can’t see myself shelling out another $175!! Maybe one day I’ll win a contest and get it done for free . . . . :)

I say go with a $15 skin that you can change to you liking as frequent as you like…

I don’t know about any of the other user on this board but I paid for colorware paint job on one of my other devices. Now even though the paint job looks nice it is very is to chip or mess up completely. Reminds me of a Macco paint job looks good when you first get it then it looks like complete crap pretty quickly. I take that back at least Macco was cheap!!

    • Star

Thanks Larry… you are the FIRST person EVER I have read to claim to have had Colorware done AND stated why you don’t like them, specifically pointing out the paint quality and chipping.

Everyone else’s comments are useless. Did anyone say you all had to go out and get some Colorware done to your devices? Is someone strong-arming you into pissing $200 away? No? Then WTF are you all complaining about? Apple’s shit is overpriced but I’ve NEVER made that complaint because I’m not buying Apple shit anyway. Some of you people sound like the old guy in the neighborhood who yells at kids running over his water hose with their bikes.

      • Larry Vicor

Star no problem now don’t get me wrong the quality seems to be good and it looks nice. The real problem is with the durability of the paint. The paint used is not very durable at all and once you mess up their paint job you can not have it repainted. Thus resulting in a device that looks worse then the OEM manufactured housing even after it has been terribly abused.

    Fuck Colorware.
They are way too over-priced and arrogant.
I had work done with them in the past, and the arrogance of that company is unbelievable.
Just wait for TrueSupplier or CNN.cn to come out with replacement housings for 1/8th of the price that Colorware is.

    What a waste if jack!

  • wonderbread

The picture link takes us to http://warez/
Warez huh? I see what BGR is into in their idle time.

  • Akulamenuri

Lets get the 3g working on it first before we go and pretty it up

  • Sean76

Yea, I’d agree with getting it to work right before dressing it all up! Seriously Google, Tmobile 3G?

  • Mrwirez

I just can’t bring myself to cover up a beautiful phone with paint or sticker-ware. A clear screen protector is about it for me.

  • bob a

please google just make it in black.. the current color scheme is ugly

  • Chris

Well anything looks better than the boring and cheap looking shades of grey and silver that’s currently on the Nexus One. Colorware stuff looks pretty good, and the nexus one is a good option for it.

  • ickiboo

Why does it cost $175 to send in your phone and $800 to buy a new phone with a paint job? That’s a $270 paint job when it is brand new! hmmmmm

    • http://www.bgr.com Boy Genius

I believe it’s because Colorware will actually give you a 1 year warranty to cover the device when you buy it direct. Because if they didn’t, you wouldn’t have a valid warranty as it has been modified.

  • Rob B

175 seems like an absolute rip off…
