Google offers 3G fix for Nexus One, puts a little blame on T-Mobile coverage

General

Google-Nexus-One-51

Nothing upsets geeks more than grabbing a gadget the moment it becomes available only to find issues with it. Google feels your pain when it comes to your 3G connectivity woes on the Nexus One. Currently, Google is in the process of testing a software fix and the results look promising. Assuming everything gets sorted and fixed on Google’s end, the software update will become available via an OTA download. However, Google also claims that the 3G issues might be because of T-Mobile’s 3G footprint. Those living in fringe areas, or the edges of T-Mobile’s 3G coverage, can’t be helped because it’s beyond Google’s control. Funny, we didn’t hear too many complaints about 3G connectivity with the G1 or myTouch 3G. Though maybe people just had lower expectations then.

    You know what’s funny, How many times the word FanBoy gets thrown around. No One, especially StevenGlansburg knows what it means…I am sorry, He is one. So maybe he does. It is when someone just defends something just because they are loyal to that brand when it may not be that great a product. In this case…T-Mobile 3g. It is not great coverage on most places. Yet so many T-Mobile “Fanboys” will defend it with little fact ore reason behind it, ot say stuff like “works where I live”…well duh!
    Yet, here is the kicker, so many people call others VZW Fanboys when in all actuallity they are just Fans of their network cuz it IS the best technically, and there customer service rates tops or close too it all the time, yet we are fanboys??
    Again a fanboy defends things that are OK as if they were great, Fans defend whet it really great because IT IS!!
    Just thought I would help ya all out with that ya bunch of Fanboys…lol

    @Latoya,

    your gaining weight around your thighs has definitely affected t-mobiles 3G reception in here. Please lose some weight so i can haz my you tube on my nexus one. Also plz clean me, there is alot of bad things in here taking up all this room. I needz it for my big nexus one screen. And for goodness sakes latoya, stop hiding crack in here when the cops drive by, it’s hard for me to concentrate afterwards!!!

    I’m still looking for the list that has T Mobile (deutch telecom) as the biggest company in the world. Not only are they not the biggest company in the world (hell Wal Mart beats them) but they aren’t even the biggest wireless provider. Considering Verizon Wireless is owned by Vodafone and VZ Comm, and Vodafone has the second largest sub. base after China Mobile wihtout including the lines from VZW they might win. Of course AT&T Wireless is owned by AT&T Comm and AT&T Comm is a bigger company then everyone else I’ve mentioned, we might want to give it to them. So if you want to count sub. base, China Mobile wins (although it’s cheating cause they have more people to sell phones to) and if you want to talk fiscal worth I’m going with AT&T. Point being “T Mobile is the biggest company in the world” isn’t a valid argument, and it doesn’t mean a thing. Enjoy your spotty T Mobile coverage, except when you’re visiting your friend in the next city over.

    I can tell you that there isn’t 3G coverage in NY everywhere it is shown on T-Mobiles live map. Just b/c its colored magenta doesn’t mean there is 3G coverage, at least in NY. I know several people in NY that dont even have 3g coverage in their homes even though the map they were shown when they chose TMobile says its 3g in that neighborhood. Tmobiles 3G is weak I can attest to that

    Idk what tha situation is with other people’s nexus one…. mine works perfectly I wonder what the patch is gonna do to my phone

    Google doesn’t want to take all the heat so they point fingers at T-Mobile’s coverage? Way to man up Google – cowards!

    I highly doubt T-Mobile is going to be first in line again to support your next iteration of the Google phone with similar flaws. All you had to do was say, “We found the issue was related to a software bug and we’re providing a fix for it within a week or so after internal testing.” People would’ve accepted that and would move on.

    “Don’t Be Evil” my ass…

    @topofnewyork

    I agree and i think its greatly t-mobiles suckiness, here in boston it’s the same deal with those BS maps. I live right off of bunker hill and i still don’t get any 3G inside but apparently live in a blob of purple 3G coverage according to the map. AT&T 3G works perfect (SURPRISING I KNOW!) and so does vzw even though it’s a little slower than the rest WTF!!! i hate to compare t-mobile to other companies but when i go to nyc and CT and FL i have the same issues.

    and there are streets that i travel on the outskirts of boston that say i have full 3G and i never get anything but edge and i drop calls all the time. I call tech support and they blow smoke wayyy far up my ass and make me delete everything off my nexus one and my cliq.

    One interesting tid-bit is what everyone is complaining about the nexus one is my life on a daily basis with a cliq and a nexus one.

  • Mooose

    Everyone talks about t-mobile’s 3G coverage, tbh it works just fine for the places I travel and I do travel quite a bit. Its quite funny that everyone complaining about the nexus one and google blaming t-mobile’s network. That is a cop out to a crappy phone that they designed. They just don’t want to admit that it is garbage. I have friends who have the G1 and various other 3G devices on t-mobile’s network and never had or heard any complaints nor have I seen many complaints on t-mobile’s forums with 3G connectivity than with the nexus. They don’t like the PR so they are blaming t-mobile. They over hyped the nexus one and they are causing their own fallout

  • YanivC

    Bullshit! neither my G1 or my wifes Cliq have any issues. i can put my G1 and the Cliq right next to my Nexus and both phones have perfect 3G and the Nexus One is on GPRS. Fess up Elgoog.

  • fort

    I have the mytouch 3g and the N1. The mytouch 3g does pretty good with phone receiption but the 3g goes in and out all the time. I’m in MD. The N1 is dead off. Not only does it dance between g3 and edges Just walking in to most building I lose everything and I mean everything!! No phone no data nothing nida. At lease the mytouch gave me voice and edge in the same locations. Now I have an N1 that stays in my pocket. I’m looking forward to the update. PS. for those who phone is working great, So does mine when I’m in a place my phone works great. SHIT.

  • Emily

    I think people just had lower expectations. I know people in my area with the G1 or any other phone. 3G cuts in and out all the time.

  • b_baller

    @tmobileROCKS

    Where did you get the idea that its the largest company in the world? AT&T is even larger.

  • b_baller

    @LaToya

    I assumed he was talking about the value of the company. Not subscribers, but you are correct about Verizon/Vodafone.

  • SadforGoogle

    Funny that google blames T-mobile when we saw how many screen shots of the G1, Cliq, mytouch and behold 2 next to the Nexus with 3g coverage while nexus was stuck on edge? Google and HTC released a flawed product they should own up to it and fix it. Besides as much as we have come to love HTC we all know how flawed their phones can be at launch. The battery life on the G1 is still bad and the touch flow interface loves to crash and freeze and WM.

    • Philip

      SadForGoogle,
      You didn’t read the press release at all did you? They are not blaming t-mobile entirely at all, only in some cases. For the cases that t-mobile is *NOT* to blame, such as with the G1 comparison tests, they will have a software fix shortly. RTFM

  • ChocoTaco

    The Nexus One seems faster because of Android 2.1. It’s not the processor. Once the Droid gets 2.1, the “speed difference” will disappear. 2.1 is coming to the Droid very, very soon.

  • Drew

    I TOTALLY disagree. How are you going to say a 550MHz processor is gonna somehow catch up with a 1GHz processor is insane!!! It’s twice as fast. Quit dreamin’…

  • ChocoTaco

    Drew doesn’t understand how processors work. Why is my 2.67GHz i7 lightyears faster than my old 3.4GHZ HT Pentium 4?

    Clock speed has nothing to do with processor performance. The only time that is a good benchmark is if we’re dealing with the same architecture, like a stock i7 920 vs. an overclocked i7 920. These two processors have completely different architecture. For example, the 600MH OMAP in the Droid is much faster than the 800MHz processor in the Samsung Moment. They’re not even close. The Moment’s architecture is old.

    Read up on how technology works.

  • Latoya’s smelly vagina
