T-Mobile myTouch Slide to end all Sidekick sales?

Exclusive

We’ve been briefed on what appears to be T-Mobile’s game plan regarding Sidekick devices.

The information comes from a new tipster so we haven’t independently confirmed it. With that said, we have been told that with the rumored T-Mobile myTouch Slide coming up, T-Mobile will slowly be phasing out all Sidekick sales. Whether this means the Sidekick line will permanently disappear remains to be seen, but we wouldn’t put past Danger/Microsoft to replace them with the infamous ”Project Pink” devices.

I am really tired of the “M$ will lose your data” card. Every phone has its “major weakness” like the iPhone and multitasking, Android and multitouch and RIM and their browser, but they all also have some amazing features that draw users to them. Sidekick is no different.

Anyone know what slowly means? I would like to get one before they go the way of the dodo.

People love their sidekicks…..It’d be an awful business decision to end all sidekicks

@s-datta i hated my sidekick. it didnt do anything special. there were 3 free apps. all of which the G1 has preloaded and does better. the sidekick is dead. let it die. it would be a good business decision, because you have to be an idiot to buy one of those phones when the G1 is the same price

  • Z-liberator

@james Yes it would be a shame especially since the G1 is ten times more advanced.

Thats just rumor. I happen to work for Tmo. in Project Developement and there is no discussion or plan to discontinue the Sidekick. It would be a rather bad business move to risk losing over 200,000 sdk customers who obviously have been faithful to the phone regardless of the lack of features. Smart business would be on Microsoft’s part to enhance the phone by adding new features to make it competitive, which is part of the reason they acquired Danger in the first place. Smart users probably realize that the Sidekick can still get better…..the G series has already given up the farm.

@shn Really? So how do you explain the letter received saying “we are switching off the sidekick service”? They say we can still keep the phone but without the sidekick service all we can do is text and call. Why don’t I just dig out my old Nokia 3210 for that!!

No Internet, no e-mail, no IM, no backed up data means no Sidekick in my opinion.
