Developers not being paid for sales from Windows Marketplace for Mobile?

Rumor

windows-marketplace-mobileMicrosoft may be biting the hand that feeds them by not paying developers who are selling applications on Microsoft’s Windows Marketplace for Mobile. An increasing number of developers are expressing their angst at Microsoft and its Marketplace payment system which is supposedly not sending out payments for eligible accounts. Some accounts are reported to be incorrectly labeled as “Not eligible for revenue payout” when they have met the $200 payout threshold and other accounts, though labeled as “Eligible for revenue payout”, are not receiving any payouts due to mistakes within the payment system. In the latter case, much confusion exists with the “Eligible for revenue payout” status which applies to accounts that have already received a payment and are setup to receive future payments once the $200 threshold has been reached.

Sounds simple except many accounts are mistakenly labeled as “Eligible for revenue payout”  when they have never received a payment and are not setup to receive future payments. These developers are stuck in a never, never land where money is accruing in their accounts, their status says “Eligible for revenue payout” but the money is not being dispensed. In some cases, these glitches have been affecting developers since the Marketplace launched in October 2009 and has resulted in accounts whose balances are well over $1,000. Microsoft has been slow to respond to developer’s complaints and, in some cases when Redmond has responded, developers are still not being paid after Microsoft reportedly fixed their accounts. What a nightmare for developers and a huge mistake for Microsoft who should be bending over backwards to keep its developers happy. But hey, they love to sign MacBook Pros.

Wow, you gotta be kidding! That’s why WM wont be around in the next year or 2.

Doesn’t suprised me. MS these days is so disorganized, and not unified, they forget so many things. Take for instance Vista. Vista had a lot of things going for it, but once it went out, it died. Vista Ultimate extras? A bunch of language packages (who the heck needs that many languages, very few I would suppose), and 2 games (which are going to be available for Vista and 7 users). Then there’s Windows Contacts, Calendar, and Mail, which were not augmented by development, but totally replaced by their Windows Live Service, which itself is lacking, (hotmail doesn’t have IMAP support, Calendar is really lacking, and it doesn’t even sync to their mobile devices! Which brings me to WinMo). then there’s Windows Mobile. Google has them beat here, even on their own platform, as I’m assuming that a good majority of people are using the free exchange services from Google, because Microsoft’s cloud service, Windows Live, doesn’t quite sync with Windows Mobile natively. Also, where are the much needed updates for Windows Mobile platform. There’s a Windows Update app on the thing, but is never utilized, there’s problems with the alarm, but hasn’t been fixed. Microsoft really needs to stop wowing people with all this new junk and get their stuff that’s already out working at 100% before showcasing some other new crap.

Oh yes, it will be indeed. They will not stand for such a thing. I mean really, look how fast they got Windows 7 out there door and those IE patches, man when it comes to fixing whats broke MS is…blazing fast. ;)

Windows Mobile 7 will be great, everything happening now will be overshadowed and forgotten.

Why is MS doing this? it is not correct

Guess M$ is only good at collecting money. But as an iPhone dev, I can attest to problems with their system too. In Apple’s case they divide the world into different stores, and the threshold for payment needs to be reached in each individual region before you’ll get paid for that region. Which is a pain since some of the smaller regions take a long time to accrue to the threshold, but even when they do, they send a separate payment directly from that region, which means that if it comes from outside USA you’ll be hit with a hefty wire-transfer fee. It’d of made more sense if all the regions accrued to one account, and then Apple would only have to issue one check.

Wow, I can’t even understand the entry…Use of periods and shorter sentences might help.

It’s Microsoft. This is the same company that fired over 5000 employees and weeks later opened a mall and soccer field for other employees.

I love WM, but the marketplace is a sad joke. Even BB App World is better. There are many better programs available elsewhere for WM.

MS has a mobile market place?

  • DigDug

‘Surely’ this must be Apple’s fault too, right?

the Marketplace is embarrassing … I felt like an idiot for being stupid enough to even waste the time it took to load it on my phone and find out there was almost NOTHING there.. there is something TERRIBLY wrong with Microsoft.

  • Bor

Agh MS. Fix it! I’m in that small group of users that still want to see the platform succeed, and if this is happening, there’s even less of a chance of success.
